Preseason Record: 1-3

Team Goals

- Win 11 games
- Win the AFC North title
- Show continued offensive inprovement
- Seek new deals for several starters

Season Preview

Baltimore finished last season with a 12-4 record, just one win away from tying for the best record in franchise history. This year, the Ravens look to take that next step and make a run at a second Super Bowl appearance for the franchise.

After the defeat at the hands of the Steelers in the Divisional round of the AFC Playoffs last season, the Ravens have made it a point to not let their Steel City rivals get the upper hand. With Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger out for the season with a pectoral tear, that goal just might be in reach.

The Ravens made several moves this offseason to help beef up their offense, acquiring such players as FB Vonta Leach, WR Lee Evans, RB Ricky Williams, and T Bryant McKinnie. However, the team did lose a valuable member of the offense in TE Todd Heap. Overall, the team feels confident on both sides of the ball, and especially in 4th year QB Joe Flacco.

Could this be the year? Are all of the pieces in place? Will the Ravens bring another NFL Championship to Charm City?

The Ravens are all set to begin their 2011 campaign by taking on their bitter rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Ravens were also all set to take on Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, unfortunately, Big Ben suffered a torn pectoral muscle during the preseason and was placed on IR. While on the topic of injuries, several players on the Ravens' offensive line are out. Most notably is left guard Ben Grubbs and his back-up, Andre Gurode. Injuries which leave some fans questioning the efectiveness of the running game on Sunday.

What to Watch For VS Pittsburgh

- Effectiveness of the running game with weakened O-Line.
- Rookie CB Jimmy Smith against Steeler wide outs.

Week 1 Transactions
Signed OL M. Setterstrom to a 1 year, $620k deal.
Released SS M. Paschal

Offenses Struggle; Defense "Rains"

It was a rainy one at M&T Bank when the Ravens hosted their AFC North rivals. The Steelers rode into town without Ben Roethlisberger under center, which proved to hinder their offense quite a bit.

The rainy conditions certainly didn't do either of these teams any favors, as both offenses struggled to get much going. Aside from one big TD pass to rookie WR Torrey Smith, the Ravens didn't have much going in the way of offense. It wasn't until early in the 2nd half that Ravens RB Ray Rice was able to gain any decent yards on his carries. The entire Steeler team had a tough time doing anything, it's as if all the air is out of this team without Big Ben leading them.

For the Ravens, Joe Flacco was having trouble reigning in his passes, with a lot of them sailing over receiver's heads or simply out of bounds. If that wasn't enough, the offensive line allowed 4 sacks on the 4th year QB and plenty of hits.

Late in the 4th quarter, it looked as though the Steelers would punch one into the endzone. That was until one 2nd down play when Bernard Pollard came untouched around the edge and forced Leftwich to cough up the football. That, my friends, sealed the deal for the Ravens.

Up next for Baltimore, they'll be on the road against the Titans of Tennessee!

Week 2 VS Titans

After a win over the Steelers in week 1 the Ravens take to the road to face the Tennessee Titans and they're new QB, Matt Hasselbeck and of course, HB Chris Johnson.

Tennessee is coming off a 27-22 win over Jacksonville in which Hasselbeck threw for 252 yards and 3 TDs. Baltimore only allowed 169 passing yards in week 1, we'll see if they can stop Hasselbeck.

Baltimore only amassed 10 points in the win against Pittsburgh. One would think they'll have to find the endzone more in this game to come out on top.

"Welcome to the League, Torrey Smith!"

It was a wild game in Tennessee, with emotions flaring in the first half. On the Ravens' first drive, it was 4th and 5. Instead of punting, Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron dialed up a pass play which saw Flacco hit Lee Evans on a quick slant for 7 yards and a first down.

Speaking of Flacco, he seemed to finally hit a stride in this game, after struggling last week against Pittsburgh. Passing for a solid 289 and 2 TDs. He also threw 2 INTs on bad decisions where he should have thrown the ball away.

Rookie WR Torrey Smith had an incredible day, catching 2 TD passes. One of which coming on a play where Titans CB Cortland Finnegan bit on a pump fake and allowed Smith to get open.

The passing game looked great. The running game, not so much. Ray Rice had to struggle and fight for each yard until early in the 4th quarter, when the Titans' defense seemed to wear down. Rice scored two TDs that last quarter. One widened the gap, the second hammered the nail in the coffin.

Baltimore's defense got it's first interception of the year, when Ray Lewis picked off a long lob pass over the middle of the field.

The Ravens are on the road again next week, as they head to St. Louis to take on the Rams, who will be without their sophomore QB, Sam Bradford. Can the Ravens improve to 3-0?

Week 3: @ St. Louis Rams

The 2-0 Baltimore Ravens roll on to St. Louis to do battle with the Rams in this week 3 match up. Baltimore is coming off a convincing win over Tennessee in week 2, while St. Louis looks to rebound from a 5 point loss to the Giants last Monday night.

The Rams will be without their QB Sam Bradford for the next 7 weeks, a significant loss.

The Ravens' passing attack was much improved last week, we'll see if they can keep it up against the Rams.
