Re: More Than a Flash in the Pan: A Kent State Golden Flashes Dynasty (NCAA 12)

Golden Flashes Look Impressive in 35-10 Home Win Over Temple

Kent, OH -- With star running back Dri Archer sidelined for the next eight weeks with a broken wrist, one might assume Kent State would struggle running ball; quite the contrary. The Golden Flashes, with the aide of red-shirt sophomore Robert Hollomon, picked up right where they left off prior to Archer's injury. Hollomon had 26 carries for 170 yards and four touchdowns. True sophomore quarterback Jordan Tarver struggled throwing the ball (just 10/22 for 156 yards and two interceptions against zero touchdowns) but he ran the ball seven times for 76 yards and one touchdown.

"We struggled throwing the ball quite a bit today, but I like how the rest of our offense picked it up. Robert got great blocking all game long and took advantage of it for some nice runs. But I'm most proud of our defense and how they kept a usual potent Temple ground game in check." -Darrell Hazell, Head Coach

In fact, the Kent State did more than that as they held Temple's star running-back Bernard Pierce to just 24 yards rushing on nine carries. In all, Temple was able to muster just 262 yards of total offense. The win improves Kent State to 6-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in conference play.

Re: More Than a Flash in the Pan: A Kent State Golden Flashes Dynasty (NCAA 12)

Golden Flashes Defense Dominates in 34-14 Win

Robert Hollomon works his way through the Ohio defense on his way to a 25 yard exclamation mark touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

Kent, OH -- In just his second season Kent State head coach Darrell Hazell has lead his Kent State team to the MAC Championship game. The Kent State defense (the same one that gave up over 40 points per game in their first five games of the season) shutdown the Ohio offense and bought an offense that stuttered out of the game some time to pull away in the end.

"Say what you will about our defense early in the season because it was bad. But these last four or five games they've been pretty damn good. They've kept us in games and have allowed our offense to ease into the game and I couldn't be happier with their performance over the final weeks." -Darrell Hazell

The Kent State win sets up a rematch with Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship game. The Northern Illinois Huskies (10-2, 7-1) have handed Kent State two of their three conference losses in the Darrell Hazell era. Kent State lost 31-21 at Northern Illinois on November 3rd. The Golden Flashes will be without start wide-receiver Tyshon Goode who suffered a high ankle sprain early in the first half in this week's game against Ohio.

Jordan Tarver hits Charles Gordon late in the second half for a five yard touchdown to give Kent State a 17-0 halftime lead. The pass also tied the school record for career touchdown passes of 58.

Tarver hits Cody Pierce for a 22 yard touchdown in the third quarter. This touchdown pass by Tarver broke the school record for career touchdown passes. Tarver, just a true sophomore, should shatter the record by the time this career his wrapped-up.
