Wildcats pick up five more comitments
The Cats picked up five more solid verbal commitments for the 2012 class.
*** MLB Patrick Hogan, 6'2", 254 lbs, Abingdon, VA
The Abingdon High standout is ranked 34th by Rivals among middle linebackers and is considered a coverage linebacker. Very athletic linebackers who is going to fit in well with Kentucky 3-3-5 defense. Turned down an opportunity to join the Naval Academy.
*** CB Sidney Pollard, 5'9", 166 lbs, Blue Springs, MO
The Blue Springs High standout is ranked 125th by Rivals among cornerbacks and is considered a cover corner. Athletic corners whose speed and acceleration combined with his man coverage skills could be a tremedous pickup in what is going to be a young secondary for the Cats next season. Received interest from Iowa and Missouri.
*** MLB Todd Cooper, 6'3", 211 lbs, Wilmington Island, GA
Another athletic linebacker that is going to thrive in the 3-3-5. The Islands High standout is ranked 60th by Rivals among middle linebackers and is considered a coverage linebacker. Turned down an offer from Vanderbilt.
** CB Tim White, 6'1", 180 lbs, North Chicago, IL
Ranked 167th by Rivals among corners and is considered a cover corner. Another speedy guy and it appears we can see a trend in what Rick Minter wants for his defense out on the edges....speed, speed, and more speed. White received interest from Illinois and Iowa State.
** FS Brad Miller, 6'3", 205 lbs, Sudley, VA
Ranked 80th by Rivals among free safeties and is considered a cover safety. Miller is another speedy guy who will could serve as depth later on. Received interest from Virginia and Louisville.

Re: The Return of the Air Raid - A Kentucky Wildcats Dynasty
Cats hang on for first SEC victory. Newton throws for 487 yards in 49-42 victory.
Newton played a mistake free game, throwing five touchdown passes and no picks.
Lexington, KY - Today's game against Ole Miss was one of the games head coach Mike Leach had circled in the preseason as a game that Kentucky would have to win if they wanted to reach bowl eligibility. The Rebels hot start to the season and being ranked 17th in the nation caused some concern among fans. Leach knew he would need a mistake free game from his offense to give them a chance.
He got that and much, much more.
Morgan Newton threw for 487 yards and five touchdowns as the Wildcats held on for a 49-42 victory over the Ole Miss Rebels.
"This was a statement victory for us," Leach said. "Morgan went out there and pretty much said give me the damn ball and I'll win this game. I'm happy with the yards and the points we put up, and we needed every single one of them. What I was most ecstatic about was no turnovers except for a special teams flap."
The game came down to two huge, momentum swinging plays. One at the end of the first half and one at the end of the game.
At the end of the first half and with his Rebels trailing 35-14, Houston Nutt gambled in the red zone, running a fake field goal to try and make it a two touchdown game heading into the half. Leach sniffed it out.
"I had a feeling Nutt would try and get cute there. I told the guys to just go for the holder and see what happens. He rolled right into the defense," Leach said.
Ole Miss' gamble didn't pay off at the end of the first half.
The second momentum shift came late in the fourth quarter. Ole Miss had cut Kentucky's 21-point lead down to seven and the Wildcats' offense suddenly started having trouble moving the ball. Facing a fourth-and-one at midfield with less than two minutes to go, Leach called a running play to fullback DJ Warren for the first time this season. Warren was initially stopped in the backfield, but he fell forward and got the first down, sealing the victory.
Leach said he never hesitated.
"I may have to owe Herm Edwards some money, but you play to win the game," Leach said. "When you are the underdog, you have to be aggressive. We get the first down, its game over. If we don't get it, they still need a touchdown to tie the game. Most of the college football pundits will say it wasn't the right call or say something about a book. You guys know me, I've never been a by the book coach."
Winston Guy continued his breakout season this year, picking up a sack and forced fumble on this play.
Next week, the Wildcats will travel to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores. With a win, the Cats will become bowl eligible. However, despite how the match up looks on paper, the UK/Vandy matchup always seems to bring the best out of both teams.
Highlights
Gene McCaskill turns a screen pass into a 72-yard touchdown.
Brandon Bolden busts a run for a 66-yard touchdown.
LaRod King hauls in a 76-yard pass from Morgan Newton for one of his three touchdowns.
LaRod King hauls in another 70+ yard touchdown pass.
