Re: Stanford Cardinal (NCAA 12)

First off let me say this is be of the best franchise stories I have read on here, I throughly enjoy it. I really love the fact that you have been close to winning a National Championship but haven't done it yet, I think that aspect makes it way more interesting. I also really enjoy the rivalry you have going with Oregon it's very intense and makes for some great story lines. I have 2 questions for you. My firs question is what settings are you using for dynasty to get such realistic games? My second question is what settings are you using for scouting/recruiting?

All-American difficulty for the games, and I tweak at least one slider or two after every game, it seems like.

As for recruiting, I've tried to set up some sort of system to simulate the real-life difficulties of Stanford recruiting. If a player's awareness is below a D, I generally drop them. If I can't increase a player's interest in Academic Prestige after a certain point, I drop them, and over the last season or two I've generally avoided offering scholarships right away, with one or two exceptions.

Re: Stanford Cardinal (NCAA 12)

Recruiting 2017

(Note: I've taken the liberty of creating some recruits with Hawaiian/Polynesian names starting in this recruiting year, to try and add a spice of realism to things. I wish EA would take care of this themselves...)

After two years of exceptionally limited space, recruiting-wise, Stanford has the ability to go up to 22 spots in this year's recruiting class at the minimum. There are three open spots on the roster right now, and 19 seniors set to graduate after this season.

Quarterback: Shane Williams returning for his fourth year this season was immeasurable in its magnitude, but nobody realistically expects him to return for his fifth year in 2017. That makes snagging a quarterback in this class a necessity. The state of Arizona has been exceptionally friendly to Stanford over the years, and is absolutely loaded in 2017 - including the nation's #2 QB, Anthony Morris of Chandler High School, the archrival of Stanford feeder school Hamilton High. Morris is a good sized signal caller at 6'3, 220 pounds, and while he isn't the all-world recruit that Shane Williams was coming out of Mater Dei, Morris possesses a similar skillset in that he fits the mold of an elite pro-style QB, while also being athletic enough to make plays with his feet as well.

Running Back: Stanford has an elite 1-2-3 stable of backs this year, but they're also the only tailbacks on the roster, and one of them, Kevin Purcell, is a senior. That makes tailback one of the primary needs in this class, and the state of Arizona again appears to have exactly what the Cardinal is looking for. Five-star mauler Jeremy Taylor of Desert Vista High School in Phoenix just has the look of a Stanford running back, measuring in at a massive 6'3, 236 pounds, and running with the power of all 236 of those pounds. Taylor won't make many people miss, nor will he pull away for many 60 yard touchdowns, but he is the prototypical power back, and figures to be one of Stanford's top recruits, regardless of position.

Wide Receiver:The need for wideouts has not existed the last couple years thanks to Brian Kudron stockpiling the position in his first couple classes. This year four of the eight receivers on the roster are seniors, and three more are juniors, so one or two in this class will probably be ideal.

Tight End: Marcus Davenport is entering his final season on The Farm, as is fullback/tight end Jay Hicks, and Marvin Moore is a junior. With only Alexander DeAngelis and Phil Anderson behind them, Stanford will likely push to sign at least one prospect that can play the position.

Offensive Line: Stanford has five true tackles on the roster, two of which are seniors. Of the remaining three, two are true freshmen Darren Johnson and Jeremy Parker, so while the future may be set, signing at least one tackle will be preferred. Inside, Stanford has five players listed as guards, and only one senior, while only two centers, both upperclassmen. The need for a center may lead Stanford back to the friendly halls of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona, where the nation's #5 center prospect, Paliana Kukolonu, resides. A native of Hawai'i, Kukolonu moved to Arizona several years ago, and has grown into a monster at 6'3, 330 pounds. He already has an early group of five standing out above the rest: Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Stanford, and USC.

Defensive Line: Stanford has only four defensive ends on the roster, and its two best defensive tackles will graduate after this season, so defensive line will be a priority this year. That priority may send the Cardinal out to the Hawaiian Islands, where their presence has been scarce in recent years. Michael Fanatele of the prestigious Punahou School in Honolulu, is hearing from essentially the entire Pac-12, and for good reason. The four-star prospect has excellent size at 6'6, 275 pounds, making him an ideal end in a 3-4 scheme. On the inside, Stanford is on the radar for numerous high profile defensive tackles, including Nasili Nalatalu of Utah, Jarrett Bailey of San Leandro (CA), David Talley of San Antonio (TX), and Josh Wright of Galveston (TX).

Linebacker: A couple years ago when Stanford was in dire need of a rangy, pass rushing outside linebacker for the 3-4, they came to Tucson, Arizona and found 6'7 Adrian Turner of Palo Verde High School, who is now entering his third year as a starter for the Cardinal. Now, Stanford will likely return to Tucson, this time at Canyon Del Oro High School, home of four-star Todd Price, a 6'6, 240-pound freak of an athlete. The usual suspects are in hot pursuit of Price - Cal, Stanford, USC, Arizona, Nebraska - but early rumors suggest Stanford's cache in the Valley of the Sun may work heavily in their favor.

Cornerback: Stanford is stocked at talent at corner, but Kevin Estes is a senior, and AJ Grant and Devin Wilson could be early departures, they're that good. Regardless, Jordan Ross of Superior (AZ) is good enough that you go after him no matter what your current roster is like. Ranked as the #2 corner in the country, the four-star Ross has elite speed and elite cover skills, making him one of the most coveted recruits in the country.

Safety: Coach Kudron has stockpiled the cupboard at the safety positions over the past few years, so there is no pressing need here, making it a luxury to take one of the right player comes along.

Palo Alto, CA

Sugar Shane Shines
It's a dazzling 2016 opener for Williams and Stanford

PALO ALTO, CA - It's been almost a decade now since Jim Harbaugh took over the Stanford program, and in that timeframe, under both Harbaugh and Brian Kudron, Stanford's bread and butter has always been run first, run second, run again, and maybe throw in a playaction pass here and there.

If the 2016 season opener is any indication, the Cardinal may be deviating from that established norm this season. Superstar Shane Williams, the Heisman Trophy runnerup from 2015 and the favorite headed into 2016, threw for 376 yards and five touchdowns, leading Stanford to an easy 58-10 opening win over UTEP.

"I wouldn't say our philosophy is changing," Kudron said. "We'll always be about running the ball here at Stanford, as long as I'm in charge, anyway. But when you've got a rare, special talent like Shane...well, I suppose that would prompt some tweaks to the gameplan. We've got what we consider to be college football's best player taking the snap on every play of the game for us. Of course we're going to have him make more plays."

Re: Stanford Cardinal (NCAA 12)

Just caught up with this... That NC Title loss must have been such a downer... especially with two minutes left to try and come back.

Getting that nice recruiting class should help lift your spirits and hopes for this season.

A great read.
