Re: Stanford Cardinal (NCAA 12)

#24 USC @ #1 Stanford
Pac-12 Championship Game
Stanford Stadium
Palo Alto, CA
December 10, 2011

Cardinal Rule
In dramatic fashion, Stanford captures the Pac-12 title and makes plans for New Orleans

PALO ALTO, CA - Stanford knew USC wouldn't roll over so easily this time, like they did last month in the Coliseum when the Cardinal put a 58-20 smackdown on them.

But even they didn't expect this.

The Trojans crushed Stanford's offense, thoroughly and completely. Andrew Luck had his worst day as Stanford quarterback, and the Cardinal's feared running game was stuck in neutral. Thankfully, Stanford's defense was equal to the task, turning USC away time and again, while also forcing four turnovers.

But it still seemed like USC might pull off the upset, when they finally broke through early in the 4th quarter on a Robert Woods touchdown for a 10-9 lead. But with their backs pushed to the wall, Stanford finally answered, and Andrew Luck and Jeremy Stewart executed a perfect wheel route off playaction to Stewart out of the backfield, as the pass floated over the surprised USC defenders into Stewart's arms. After a two-point play, the Cardinal's defense took it from there.

Stanford 17, USC 10.

The drama-filled victory gives Stanford the Pac-12 championship, their first conference title since 1999. More importantly, though, it sends the Cardinal to the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans, where they can capture the program's first national title since 1926.

"I can't even express how proud I am of these guys," first year coach Brian Kudron said in the aftermath. "This was our toughest test of the season, and we stepped up when the moment called for it. Great teams make big plays in big moments, and that's what our kids did out there tonight."

Barring something unforeseen taking place in the BCS rankings, Stanford appears set to face powerhouse Oklahoma in the title game in the Big Easy.

Wow seemed like a fun game, I had a few like that during my first season, and in my conference championship my second season, good luck in the BCS

Re: Stanford Cardinal (NCAA 12)

Those stats for the season just show that your team was really unbelievable and played fantastic. The defense was ridiculously good, and then with an offense led by Andrew Luck, of course that was stellar as well.

Interesting to see 2 BCS Busters in Boise and UCF. I think Boise should probably have a better chance to pull off a win than UCF, I'm shocked they even got in. Hopefully, Pitt proves the Big East deserves their BCS bid and picks up a big win, and same to you at Stanford.
