Manhattan University Football to join FBS

Manhattan, New York - Shocking news today in the world of college sports. Manhattan University has announced that their football program will begin play in NCAA's FBS Division for the 2011 season. Manhattan's football program began as an intramural sport in 1984 when then student and current head coach and athletic director Hugh Jaynus started a program. The program garnered much praise and attention as they barnstormed throughout the northeast. Jaynus led the team through Division III then Division II before reverting back to an independent, barnstorming format in 2003. Since 2003 Manhattan has compiled a record of 87-13 with several wins over FBS teams. The most memorable win came last season when they defeated Texas in late January. Many experts are surprised that the NCAA chose Manhattan over other schools they felt were more deserving. The NCAA cited a desire to expand in the northeast and to capture some of the large Manhattan area market.

Manhattan has been knows as the Marauders since the program's inception in 1984, a nod to their traveling format. The team has announced that they will reveal jerseys and stadium plans within the week.

Manhattan Reveals New Uniforms



Manhattan, New York - Football Head coach and school Athletic Director was on hand today with a few players to reveal the teams new uniforms as they begin their foray into FBS football. The uniforms feature Dark Red and Dark Orange, colors the school has used since inception. While the uniforms are all new the alternate helmet pays homage to the one worn in the school's barnstorming days.

Manhattan University football gear will be available in on-campus stores later today and will be rolled out over the next few days before becoming available online and at national retailers early next month.
