Re: Awakening the Sleeping Giant || A Washington Huskies Dynasty (NCAA 12)

Washington Outlasts Hawaii in Shootout

Seattle, WA -- "Unacceptable. That's just unacceptable. 46 points and 573 yards. That won't get the job done most days. Thank the Lord they couldn't stop us either, or we'd be sitting at 1-1 right now." That was the words of Washington head-coach Steve Sarkisian on his team's shootout victory over Hawaii. Hawaii senior quarterback Bryant Moniz torched the Husky secondary for 489 yards and five touchdowns. By all accounts that's a recipe for defeat, most games. That is, unless, you have Chris Polk in your backfield. Coming off a school-record 357 yard rushing performance against San Diego State, Polk ran 243 yards against the Warriors of Hawaii and scored four more touchdowns. That bumps his season total up to 600 yards and gives him 10 rushing touchdowns just two games into the season.

Devin Aguilar turns a screen-pass into a 72 yard touchdown.

"We're very fortunate we've played a couple of teams with defenses as porous as ours. We couldn't stop a junior high offense right now, never mind a division-one offense. We've got to come out willing to compete on both sides of the ball. Last week was my fault. This week, well...that was a very poor effort by the defense." Said Sarkisian. In two games Washington has allowed 79 points and is allowing. Last week against San Diego State one could forgive the Husky defense a turnovers by the offense allowed San Diego State short-field on numerous occasions. Today, though, it was a classic shootout: 112 combined points and 1,234 yards of combined total offense. Washington quarterback Keith Price was a little better in this game, though. After a four interception performance and no touchdowns a week ago, Price threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately for Price, he also threw three more interceptions.

Back-up running back Johri Fogerson chipped in with 67 yards rushing and a TD.

The win improves the Huskies to 2-0 on the season as they prepare to travel Lincoln, Nebraska, looking to exact revenge on Nebraska and the humiliating 56-21 defeat the Huskers handed them at Husky Stadium.

Re: Awakening the Sleeping Giant || A Washington Huskies Dynasty (NCAA 12)

Returning the Favor

Lincoln, NE (AP) -- A season ago Nebraska came into Husky stadium and derailed what many Washington fans thought would be a successful season. The Nebraska defense hounded Washington all game long and had their star quarterback Jake Locker seeing red in his dreams that night.

Today was different, though. Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez had just hit Brian Kinnie for a 30 yard touchdown to tie the game 21-21 with just 0:35 to go in the first half. This came after Nebraska had fallen behind 14-0. It appeared Nebraska had stolen all the momentum from Washington heading into the halftime locker room and the second half would be a dogfight. Keith Price had other ideas. On the very first play from scrimmage after Nebraska had tied the game at 21, Price hit his star freshman tight-end Austin Sefrian-Jenkins for a 64 yard gain to put the ball deep into Nebraska territory. With all three timeouts remaining the Huskies were able to punch the ball into the endzone with just 0:04 to play in the first half and took a 28-21 lead into the break.

"That touchdown before the half was huge and the turning point of the game, obviously. I was so proud of the way Keith [Price] came out determined on that drive to get us in position to put points on the board. He had a rough go of it the first two games, but today he was great and did an excellent job of leading the offense. He did a lot of growing up in a very hostile environment. That was a huge win." -Steve Sarkisian.

That touchdown before the half began a run of 21 unanswered points for Washington who put the game out of reach after back-up running back Johri Fogerson scored from five yards out to put Washington ahead 42-21 with 3:28 to go in the game. Price had his best game of the season completing 18/24 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Chris Polk had his third straight 200+ yard game as he carried the ball 33 times for 212 yards and four scores.

Re: Awakening the Sleeping Giant || A Washington Huskies Dynasty (NCAA 12)

Tale of Two Havles
Washington Rides 31-0 Second Half to Victory

Seattle, WA -- When you hold a team to 13 points less than their season average, that usually means your team is going to have a shot at a win. Unfortunately for Cal holding Washington to 13 points fewer than their season average meant giving up 41 points. After taking the opening possession of the game down the field for a touchdown the Golden Bears enjoyed a brief 7-0 lead. That's as good as it would get for them, though, as Washington rattled off 41 unanswered points on their way to a 41-7 victory.

It was certainly a tale of two halves. The Cal defense did a fine job in slowing down the Washington offense in the first two quarters and were only down 10-7. It was the second half when the wheels fell off for Cal, though, as Washington outscored them 31-0 over the final two quarters. Keith Price completed a 56 yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse to begin the second half and Washington never took their foot off the pedal.

Chris Polk failed to reach 200 yards rushing this season forcing his teammates and coaches to be content with a mere 179 yards on 22 carries. Keith Price needed just to get his 213 yards and three touchdowns on the day, twice hooking up with star wide-receiver Jermaine Kearse.

"This was, for the first time this season, an excellent all-around team effort. Our football team played exceptional on both sides of the ball for four quarters, something we've failed to do so far this season. When we play like we did today on both sides of the ball I honestly think we're one of the best teams in the nation. Now, we have to build on this performance and not have a let down next week." -Steve Sarkisian
