Week 7 Recap
Coach Koenning thanks you so much for the interview after receiving heavy criticism about the pass defense vs. BYU. North Carolina has their worst defensive performance of the season Perry Jones was tearing the defense apart. What are your thoughts coach? VC: The entire atmosphere of the game you could feel what a rivalry game is all about the fans, the players, even us the coaches we could feel the tension in the air. Erin to be honest during the first half we were basically at their mercy you know? They jumped out early with a 14 to zip lead. Then Giovanni started to get going it was like they were trying to 1 up each other. Half time we had a 3 point lead which was our smallest lead of the season. During half time I just told them we were going into bandit formation which means that were going to try to create some turnovers to get our offense back out there. We blitzed ran a 46 and Jones still found a crease to run through the guys flat out incredible.Thankfully my plan worked out. In the second half Tre Boston, , Terry Shankle, Tim jackson played out there minds and managed to separate the ball from the offense. Even wirh all the turn overs we created they were still in the game till we scored with 1:04 left on the clock. To be honest if they kept giving the ball to Jones i'm not sure we would've been able to stop him. I Gave the game ball to Jabari Price yeah I know you're thinking ''why not Giovanni?'' Jabari's made a key interception to end a drive where we were getting tortured he also returned a fumble for a touchdown. Next Week we're going up against a Georgia Tech team that is very run oriented we've got our work cut out.

Recruiting Updates

A phone call from 4 star safety Kelvin Lambert confirmed it all he's now down to 2 schools Lsu and Unc ''At the beginning of the recruiting process Kirby Smart would call me every week but after Wes Poland committed to Alabama I was told that there was no room for me and they pulled my scholarship. Online rivals has me as the #2 safety in the country and Wes Poland is # 2 whatever let's see what happens on the field.'' Lambert now has an official visit setup to visit North Carolina October 20 4 star wr Robert Parham, 3 star Ath Dane Hill, 3 star Lb Brian Lloyd also are visiting the same weekend.This was is a huge week for the tarheels before but now the stakes are even higher Florida State along with Clemson were heavy favorites to win the conference, however the tarheels are making noise. Larry Porters doing an outstanding job with recruiting, not to mention Giovanni Bernards rushing this year

The North Carolina tarheels stepped into Georgia undefeated and left with more than one loss. In the first quarter star line backer Kevin Reddick made a key stop on 3rd down unfortunately on the play he sprained his wrist. Unable to return sophomore Norkeithus Otis stepped in to play, As soon as Paul Johnson found out he wasn't coming back you could see their game plan of attacking that part of the field. Eventually Orwin Smith Sprung off a big 55 yard touchdown run up the gut that made defensive coordinator Vic Koenning adjust to what was going on. Eventually slowing them down, the Yellow Jackets had a defensive plan of their own 8 in the box at all times.

Giovanni Bernard was held to a season low 9 carries and 33 yards. This forced Gunter Brewer to put the ball in the hands of their quarter back to make plays. At the end of the third both teams were tied at 24 even. Then new starting left guard JJ. Patterson brakes his tibia after taking an awkward fall. From that point on the offensive line was out of synch. Georgia tech called a timely pass to get a touchdown and the momentum shifted from there. Head coach Fedora was so upset he didn't allow the media in for any interviews
