Gentle Giants

The 8-2 Jaguars traveled to East Rutherford, New Jersey this past Sunday to take on the struggling New York Giants. The G-Men were still technically in the NFC East race entering Sunday's contest but every loss moves them further from playoff contention. On Sunday they didn't look like a team playing to keep their playoff hopes alive but instead like a team that has already lost all hope. The Jags routed the home G-Men 27-0. Eli Manning was picked off three times and the Giants rushing game was anemic at best. Meanwhile the Jags guaranteed themselves a winning season thanks to another strong performance by David Garrard and MJD along with a big special teams play by Troy Williamson. Maurice Jones-Drew passed Gale Sayers career rushing record on the day going over 5,000 yds in his career although he again failed to find the endzone. Williamson however did not as late in the first quarter he took Matt Dodge punt 77 yds back to the house. On the run Williamson spun by one defender made a nifty cut into traffic and then squeezed through a small hole and busted free for the 77 yd return.

Rashean Mathis and the Jaguar defense put together their best game of the season leaving a goose egg on the board for the opposing Giant offense. Eli Manning was obviously missing two of his starting OL as the Jaguar front four kept him on his toes and off balance. It was the Jag secondary though that had the best day. Rashean Mathis continued his outstanding season hauling in another INT and picking up his 2nd sack of the season. In fact both Jaguar sacks were by corners as Scott Starks also had a QB takedown. Derek Cox ended the best chance of a Giant TD as he picked off Manning trying to find Hakeem Nicks on a slant route in the endzone. In the 4th quarter Don Carey picked Manning off for the 3rd time on the day causing quite a heated exchange between head coach Tom Coughlin and Manning. Life for the Giants doesn't get any easier as all the rest of their opponents have winning records and they must try and win them without stud CB Aaron Ross who broke his collarbone in the 2nd quarter. The Jaguars though are a step closer to postseason play and possibly homefield advantage as they travel to Nashville for week 13.

Joe Flacco Done For The Year

The Ravens got their 6th win Sunday over the Bucs keeping them on pace with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the AFC North title however they may have lost in the long run. QB Joe Flacco went down late in the 3rd with an elbow injury. The bad news was announced today that Flacco had fractured his elbow and will be going on IR for the rest of the season. "I am very disappointed," said Flacco about the news, "We are right in the middle of a tough divisional race and I feel like I'm letting my teammates down." The veteran Marc Bulger will have the responsibility of carrying the Ravens offense the rest of the way. He has quite the first test this week as the face rival Pittsburgh in a very important AFC tilt.

Kiper's Top 5 CB's

*Each week I will be giving a preview of the top 5 players at each position in the upcoming class

1.) Prince Amukamara 6'1" 205 lbs (Nebraska)
- There is no doubt who the top overall player in this year's draft class is. That man is Amukamara. This tough physical corner is the total package. He is fast, strong, and savvy enough to play DB in the NFL. There is no doubt he will be a top pick with the chance at going #1 although many teams are hesitant to use a top pick on a corner but if there was year to do it, it would be this year.

2.) Chimdi Chekwa 6'0" 190 lbs (Ohio State)
- This year's CB is with out a doubt the deepest in this year's draft. Many teams will have a chance to improve their back 4 after this April. Chekwa is one of the quickest backs in this draft. He has clocked a fasted 40 time of 4.28 which is flat out ridiculous. Look for Chekwa to be a top 10 pick and possibly as early as 3rd in the draft.

3) Curtis Brown 6'0" 184 lbs (Texas)
- Although Brown doesn't have as quite of good of a resume as Prince or Chekwa or as good of a name, don't think he can't play. Brown was coached by Will Muschamp and he bring the same kind of fire to field as his former DC. Brown has soft hands and good quickness. Might need to work on his footwork but look for Brown to be a top 20 pick.

4.) Shareece Wright 5'11" 185 lbs (USC)
- Shareece might be a bit short but he makes up for that with jumping ability and speed. He also has surprisingly good strength and having played in the pass happy PAC-10 he has faced some NFL arms. Some teams might worry about his size but don't expect Wright to fall past the late first round.

5.) Ras I Dowling 6'2" 200 lbs (Virginia)
- The awesome names continue in the 2011 CB draft class. Dowling is one of the bigger DB's in the draft. There wasn't a lot of strong defense play for the Cavs in 2010 but Dowling has been one of the bright spots. He finished runner up behind Jermale Hines for the Thorpe award thanks to his 6 INTs. Between his good size and great hands Dowling should make 5 first round CB selections with a chance of Jason Teague of TCU making 6

NEXT WEEK: Top 5 FS's

Ya been a rough year on the injury front for the Packers. The Seahawks have lost 4 DTs including a guy signed just last week and the Cowboys have lost two of their top WRs. I've been fortunate and not had many serious injuries. MJD scared me earlier this year but was ok and I think Durant gets banged up every week but comes back.

Thanks for following!

Injury Report

Game Notes
After getting off to a hot 4-0 start the Titans are a miserable 1-6 since. Young has struggled with his consistency tossing 12 INTs to only 11 TDs. Chris Johnson hasn't exactly been amazing either rushing for only 2 TDs this season. This week they welcome the division leading Jags into town. The Jags are hoping to earn their 10th win of the season for first time since 2007. A win would bring the Jags a closer to the AFC South title and possible homefield for the playoffs. The Titans are hoping to get revenge for their week 6 34-24 loss where Young threw 3 picks and MJD's replacement Rashad Jennings went for over 100 yds

Franchise Record: 1-0 Jaguars
2010 Week 6: 34-24 Jaguars

Series Record: 20-16 Titans
