Game Notes
The 2010 campaign kicks off at home for the Jags. Up first is Kyle Orton and the Broncos from Denver. The fans cries for Tebow weren't answered in the preseason as Orton was tabbed the starter but his position his still very much in jeopardy. The Broncos will rely on their defense to try and slow down Jones-Drew and see if their offense can find any rhythm. For the Jags the key is Garrard in the passing game. If he gets going that will open some holes for MR. Drew.

Series Record: 6-4 Jags

Re: Madden 11: Jacksonville Jaguare Franchise

Rainy Battle To Open Season

It was a drizzly day in EverBank Field where maybe 10 Jaguar fans showed up to see the Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars open the season with a wild battle. For the few fans that did attend the game they witnessed one heck of an opener where the game was decided by a FG with a minute left in the game.

The first quarter was a defensive slugfest. The Broncos had the most success as their first drive picked up one first down before dying. They eventually found the endzone with 5:26 to play in the first when Kyle Orton hit his favorite target of the day, Demaryius Thomas for a 4 yd TD score. The quarter would end with Denver owning a 7-0 lead. The offense would pick up in the 2nd quarter as the Jaguars would score 21 points. The man man behind the scoring was stud RB Maurice Jones Drew who ran for 1 yd and 4 yd scores in the 2nd quarter. The big play came on defense when Knowshon Moreno would take a shot from star CB Rashean Mathis. The hit would dislodge the ball from Moreno's hands and backup MLB Teddy Lehman would scoop and score the 47 yd TD. Denver picked up a TD of their own on a 13 yd pass to Moreno at the 4:13 mark of the quarter. The first half Denver offense though was the Orton-Thomas connection as rookie WR Thomas hauled in 8 passes in the first half. The Jaguars spurred on by the defensive TD, carried a 21-17 lead into half.

The scoring would die down again in the 3rd. Denver's defense was ready for Garrard and actually forced a pick as Champ Bailey tallied another interception in his illustrious career. The Broncos turned the INT into points as later slot WR Jabar Gaffney would make an impressive catch over a Jag defender for the 2 yd TD. However Matt Prater would miss the extra point. Jacksonville could only muster a 37 yd FG in the 3rd quarter to head into the final period with a one pt lead 24-23.

Things got tense in the 4th quarter. The 10 Jaguar fans in attendance were on their feet when early in the quarter Maurice Jones Drew would pop free and race 84 yds for the momentum changing score. With a 31-23 lead it appeared that Jacksonville was ready to take the game. But Denver had different plans especially signal caller Orton. Coming into the season Kyle Orton has received unpleasant attention as Tebow nation has cried out for their hero to take the starting job. Orton however Sunday showed what he was capable of and might've silenced the Tebow chants for a week. Spreading the ball around, the 4th round pick out of Purdue lead his Broncos all the way to the promised land thanks to an 8 yd TD pass to Brandon Lloyd. However because of the missed XP earlier they would need to go for 2 and they would get it as FB Spencer Larsen would be uncovered on the flat and with 3:38 left it was tied at 31-31. The Jaguars did nothing on their next drive going 3 and out but Denver did nothing either. The big play came on the Colquitt punt. Jaguar return man Troy Williamson would make one man miss then find some room on the left sideline and sprint deep into Bronco territory before finally being pushed out of bounds. But the damage was done. The Jaguars let Drew run the ball three times to set up the 38 yd FG for Josh Scobee. He nailed it and with 1:02 left the Jags had a 34-31 lead. Orton would get one last chance to be the hero however he would make his first and only mistake of the day on 3rd down and be picked off by defensive captain Kirk Morrison. Ball game!

Re: Madden 11: Jacksonville Jaguare Franchise

Kiper's Top QBs

*Each week I will be giving a preview of the top 5 players at each position in the upcoming class

1.) Landry Jones 6'4" 219 lbs (Oklahoma)
- Jones has decided to enter the draft early and it looks very likely the former Sooner signal caller could find himself a top draft pick in April. Jones can make every pass and has above average arm strength. His big knock is his lack of athleticism and long motion. However most scouts are drooling over his accuracy and his ability to read defenses. Could use a year or two to develop but will most likely be thrown to the wolves early on

2.) Andy Dalton 6'3" 220 lbs (TCU)
- Dalton is a winner plain and simple and scouts love it. It helps too that he has a strong arm, is an accurate thrower, and has the toughness needed for the NFL. The big weakness that scouts notice is his footwork needs work which isn't a shock coming from a spread system. Some wonder if he was properly challenged in the MWC but Dalton is ready to prove that he is more than up to the challenge for the NFL

3.) Ricky Stanzi 6'4" 230 lbs (Iowa)
- Stanzi put together a solid career at Iowa and now looks to find his way in the NFL. Both Dalton and Jones are expected to go in the first 15 picks, Stanzi is more than likely a late 1st round pick unless a team is desperate and reaches. Many scouts are more excited about who is as a person than his talent. That's no knock on his ability as Stanzi brings a strong arm and solid accuracy but he also seems mature beyond his years. Would be a good guy to sit and let develop behind a proven starter and eventually take over (Peyton Manning's successor maybe?)

4.) Greg McElroy 6'3" 225 lbs (Alabama)
- McElroy shot up the charts after his senior campaign where the Tide let him carry the offense. If you have ever watched an Alabama game then you have heard a commentator mention him never having lost in high school, couple that with his 2009 and 2010 campaigns and the kid's a winner. He will more than likely be a 2nd or 3rd rounder though unless someone gets really desperate

5.) Terrelle Pryor 6'6" 233 lbs (Ohio State)
- Pryor brought the ire of the Buckeye nation and really the world when he announced he was entering the NFL draft after not long ago promising to stay and serve his suspension. Although there are some character issues no one can deny the raw physical talent of Pryor. His impressive size, speed, and strength makes him an NFL coach's wet dream until they see the baggage he is carrying. There is no doubt some team will take a chance and draft Pryor earlier than they should. Will be an interesting career to follow

The Jags hit the road for the first time in 2010 and will take on Norv Turner's Bolts. The Chargers opened the year poorly with a 21-9 beatdown at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs. They will look to get back on track this week and shut down Maurice Jones-Drew. The Jags needs the secondary to step up as Phillip Rivers is light years ahead of Kyle Orton when it comes to passing.

Series Record: 3-2 Chargers

Cry Me A River

It was not a fun day for San Diego Chargers (0-2) QB Phillip Rivers who was responsible for all 5 of the Bolts turnovers. Four were INTs with 3 of them being picked off by Jag CB Rashean Mathis. Mathis made the collective lives of Rivers, Vincent Jackson, and the San Diego offense a living hell. The result of Rivers poor performance was a 45-21 loss and a hotter seat for head man Norv Turner.

It appeared that we were in for another outstanding battle after the first half. The Chargers scored 21 in the first half thanks to 2 yd and 13 yd TD runs by Darren Sproles and a 24 yd TD pass to Vincent Jackson. The San Diego offense converted every 3rd down in the first half amazingly but still they trailed 24-21 heading into the half. The reason being Jags QB David Garrard came to play today. The embattled QB bounced back from his disappointing season opening start to put together a 21-26 288 yds TD and a rushing TD day. He did his job which is to manage the Jaguar offense to a win and let Maurice Jones-Drew carry this team to a victory. And he did with another impressive performance as he rushed for 132 yds and a TD on 30 carries. Garrard's favorite target was FB Greg Jones out of the backfield who hauled in 6 passes. The Bolts defense had no answer for the outstanding FB as he repeatedly found himself open in the flat and broke tackles to pick up 59 receiving yards on the day.

The 2nd half was all Jags. Jack Del Rio's defense came out with an edge to them and forced four of Rivers turnovers in the 2nd half. On top of Mathis's 3 INT, FS Reggie Nelson picked off a pass and DE Derrick Harvey forced a fumble. Overall the final 30 minute of play was an exhibition of dominance of the Jags outscored the Dolts 21-0. The win moved Jacksonville to 2-0 as they return home to face off with the Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) next Sunday.
