NCAA Sanction

It seems the Miami RedHawks' season was indeed too good to be true. NCAA investigation has revealed that during the course of the 2005-2006 football season, numerous high-profile athletes on the team broke NCAA rules. And according to the NCAA, the entire coaching staff and the rest of the athletic organization knew of these violations.

The broken rules range from academic violations such as cutting class and cheating on tests, to in-team fighting and general lawlessness. Offensive lineman Lamar Bush was arrested on assault charges just before the team's bowl game, but still made the start for the team in that game. Starting quarterback Tanner Everson, tight-end Corey Harrison and defensive end Bruce Caldwell among many others regularly cut class and did not live up to academic expectation.

In light of the investigation's findings, Miami University of Ohio has been put on two year probation by the NCAA. During this time the team will have 10 less football scholarships per year. The team's 2005-2006 season wins will not be vacated, and post-season play has not been banned. But the NCAA has slapped newly hired Head Coach Jeremiah Wile with 10 less players for the next two seasons. Maybe now he and his coaching staff will enforce better behavior upon their team's players.

2006 Pre-Season Conference Selections

#7 Virginia Tech
The Hokies are projected to win the ACC again in 2006. Last year they denied Florida State a shot at the National Championship by defeating them in the conference championship game. Virginia Tech went on to the Orange Bowl, where they were defeated by Ohio State.

#2 Ohio State
Ohio State has reloaded for the 2006 season and is now considered a serious contender for the National Championship. They won the Big 10 as well as the Orange Bowl last season, and now they are projected to do the same.

#3 Oklahoma
Oklahoma won the National Championship by 34 points last year over a strong LSU team. They have since added the #4 recruiting class in the nation to their impressive roster. The Sooners are projected to win the Big 12 again this year, and are looking to repeat as National Champs.

#1 USC
The Trojans had a disappointing last season. Projected to win it all, they ended up winning just the PAC-10 title and Fiesta Bowl over an outmatched UAB. They are expected to continue dominating the PAC-10, and to improve on last season with a shot at the National Championship.

#4 Florida
Last season, Florida had three losses and finished #11 in the rankings. They did not make it to the SEC Championship game. The Gators also had an off recruiting year, not cracking the top 25. Nonetheless, experts have Florida picked to win the SEC this year ahead of LSU and Tennessee.

Miami University is expected to finish 3rd in the MAC behind Toledo and Northern Illinois respectively.

Just a heads up to anyone following, recruiting in NCAA 06 is very different than the modern recruiting is. In-season recruiting was a new feature in NCAA 06. In 06, you choose 12 prospects in the pre-season, and after you advance you are not allowed to remove them or change them at all. You cannot determine their interest prior to selecting them, so it is kind of like rolling the dice. For the rest of the season, you distribute a percentage of points out of 100 to each of the twelve recruits as you see fit, with their interest going up or down every week. It is pretty random, and by the end of things, if you are very lucky, you will get a third of the recruits. Normally you do not get the majority or in some cases any of the targets you select. I was happy last year with 2 4 star recruits. In the off-season, recruiting is more traditional. You invest points scouting and pitching one of six pitches per week. Just thought I'd let you guys (if there is anyone) following know exactly what I'm up to.
