Re: Duty. Honor. Country. An Army Dynasty.

KAZEE GOES KRAZEE IN SAN DIEGO

The score would indicate a game that may have been closer than it really was. The stats definitely indicate a game closer than it really was. Tonight in San Diego, the Army Black Knights fell to 0-1 on the season as Walter Kazee ran all over them for 190 yards and 3 scores.

While the Black Knights were able to stall the Aztecs on San Diego State's first drive of the game, it did not get any easier for Army. After Seamus McMorrow hit a 43 yard field goal to put San Diego State up 3-0, Gabe Lemon picked off an option pitch from Trent Steelman and returned it for a 43 yard score.

While Justin Trimble was able to intercept Ryan Katz, the Army offense struggled trying to mount any sort of offense in the first half.

Quote:
"It was embarrassing. Embarrassing! To watch our guys go out there and play the half of football I had to watch them play was a punch in the stomach. Luckily my football team showed up during the second half and we were able to get our offense going." - Head Coach Greg Ezell
Army scored the only touchdown in the third quarter as Larry Dixon got some key blocks from Malcolm Brown and pre-season All-Independent fullback Jared Hassain.

A 25 yard field goal from Eric Osteen only put the Black Knights down 27-10 with some momentum on their side. Walter Kazee, though, made sure that momentum was stamped out as he scored his third touchdown of the day, a 23 yard scamper.

Trent Steelman was able to add a quick garbage time touchdown with 23 second left, finding Anthony Stephens on a quick slant. They did not convert on the 2 point conversion.

With the game closing, Army had a chance to extend a drive and Anthony Stephens dropped the football on 4th down.

Quote:
"If we want to win football games, we need to play better. Our offense sucked, our defense was gashed and the only we could do right was kick the damn ball. If we don't pull our heads out of our asses quick, we're in for a long, long football season." - Head Coach Greg Ezell
The Black Knights will face the Northern Illinois Huskies to open their season at Mitchie Stadium next Saturday.

Re: Duty. Honor. Country. An Army Dynasty.

ARMY TAMES HUSKIES AT HOME

WEST POINT, NY - Trent Steelman ran an option play with HB Malcolm Brown, saw an opening and ran 72 yards down field to give Army a 7-0 lead. From that point on, the Black Knights never looked back in this contest.

Quote:
"It was a great effort in all three phases of football. Our offense ran well, our defense stopped them and our special teams came through when we asked them to. It was a complete turn around from our game against San Diego State." - Head Coach Greg Ezell
Army's option attack massed 230 yards on the ground with Raymond Maples (20 carries for 52 yards), Trent Steelman (17 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown) and Jared Hassin (10 carries for 82 yards and a touchdown) did all the heavy lifting.

The defense was just as stout as the offense tonight. Army's defense sacked Northern Illinois QB Jordan Lynch 5 times, 3 of them coming from LOLB Nate Combs. Combs' last sacked cause Lynch to leave the game in the third quarter.

CB Josh Jackson collects his first INT of the season, Lynch's 2nd of the game

Lynch was 5-23 on the night with 50 yards and 2 interceptions. Back-up QB Matt McIntosh didn't fare any better as he threw for only 18 yards.

SS Hayden Pierce collects his first INT of the season

Quote:
"We stopped them. Plain and simple. Our team was amazing today and it was a good feeling to pull out our first W of the season. We'll celebrate this today and tomorrow we start preparing for a tough Wake Forest team" - Head Coach Greg Ezell
Army is now 1-1 on the season and will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to take on the Demon Deacons.
