Re: Roll Tribe - BMott418's Florida State Seminoles (NCAA 13)

Week 2 Preview

Headlines Of The Week:

#14 Iowa travels to Fort Worth to battle #18 TCU

Fort Worth, TX - In a battle of two BCS darkhorses, the 14th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes head down to Fort Worth, Texas to battle the #18 Texas Christian Horned Frogs to open the season for both teams.

Iowa finished 10-3 last season, while TCU finished 9-4. The Horned Frogs are lead by returning Heisman Trohpy winner, redshirt senior running back Waymon James. James let it be known that the Horned Frogs are looking for much more this season.

"We're not satisfied with just being ranked." James said. "We are gunning for the BCS title game."

After losing star quarterback James Vandenberg to graduation, the Hawkeyes put their offense in the hands of redshirt sophomore Jake Rudock. They also have their eyes on the BCS title despite having such a young offensive group.

#1 Florida State begins their title defense at home vs Washington

Tallahassee, Florida - EJ Manuel is gone due to graduation, along with many other leaders from last season Florida State national championship. This season, the Seminoles turn to a new leader of the tribe: Clint Trickett.

The Seminoles begin their championship defense at home against Keith Price and unranked Washington returning 13 of 22 starters. Trickett, who threw for 7 touchdown passes in relief of Manuel last season, enters his first season as the starter.

"These are big shoes to fill, for sure." Trickett said in an interview. "That said, I have no doubt in my mind that I can and will lead this team to another national championship."

Having two 1000-yard rushers return in juniors Devonta Freeman and James Wilder Jr. definitely help out Trickett's cause. Also returning offensively is John Mackey award finalist Nick O'Leary.

All in all, Trickett has the weapons to succeed, with a target on the back of the school, do they have enough left in the tank for a second straight title?

Re: Roll Tribe - BMott418's Florida State Seminoles (NCAA 13)

Second Half Meltdown Dooms Huskies

Tallahassee, Florida - Everything that could have gone right for the Washington Huskies went right in the first half as they took on the top ranked team in the nation. Someone should have told them that there are two halves in a football game.

After starting the game off very well, scoring on each one of their four first half drives, Keith Price and the Huskies offense went completely dry. Price threw all five of his interceptions in the second half, three of which were taken back for touchdowns, as the Florida State Seminoles erase a 10 point deficit to blow out the Huskies, 55-24.

Quarterback Clint Trickett had a great day, going 18 for 26 and throwing for 293 yards, two touchdowns and just one interception.

The normally explosive Florida State running game was quiet, as running back Devonta Freeman ran for 68 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, with James Wilder Jr. adding 19 yards on five carries.

The Huskies first half was impressive, as they kept the game close for most of it, even scoring 21 unanswered at one point. After halftime, things went south for them.

Price was intercepted by cornerback Kelvin Smith, who returned it for a go-ahead touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in the second half. The Seminoles never looked back.

Cornerbacks Xavier Rhodes and Tyler Hunter both also have interceptions returned for touchdowns, and the Huskies never were able to recover.

Re: Roll Tribe - BMott418's Florida State Seminoles (NCAA 13)

#1 Florida State heads to Fort Worth for battle with #15 TCU

Fort Worth, Texas - In their quest to repeat as BCS National Champions, the top-ranked Florida State Seminoles will battle the 15th-ranked Texas Christian Horned Frogs.

TCU comes off a big win over Iowa, but face a Seminole defense that forced five second half intercepts on their way to a 55-24 ousting of the Washington Huskies.

For TCU, their biggest threat is Heisman Trophy winner Waymon James, who ran for 106 yards on 17 carries last week. James is a back who can bust off big runs at will.

The Seminoles gave up 149 rushing yards last week, including a 56 yard touchdwon run by Huskies running back Bishop Sankey. Head coach Jimbo Fisher assures that the defense will be a lot better prepared this week.

"Last week was just a matter of Washington running the right plays at the right time." Fisher said. "We had a good week of practice defensively, and I don't expect this defense to let up very much on the ground.

Florida State's main concern offensively is running the ball. Devonta Freeman and James Wilder Jr. ran for a combined 87 yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns. "There just wasn't a lot of running room throughout the course of the game, and the credit goes to their defensive coordinator." Freeman said. "This week should be a lot better for us when it comes to running the ball.

#1 Florida State throttles #15 TCU; Wilder out indefinitely

Forth Worth, Texas - The top ranked team in the nation picked up right where they left off last week, this time, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Despite losing Clint Trickett (9-16, 114 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT) to a concussion late in the second quarter, the Florida State Seminoles put up 28 second half points en route to a huge 48-10 victory over the Texas Christian Horned Frogs.

Backup quarterback Jameis Winston went 4 for 5 with 73 yards, and also ran for 77 yards on 7 carries in relief of Trickett, who was rocked on an interception that was returned for the Horned Frogs only touchdown.

Another huge injury came late in the fourth quarter, as running back James Wilder Jr. (11 carries, 91 yards, 2 TDs) dislocated his elbow. Wilder is expected to be out indefinitely, but won't be medically redshirted.

The running game was a lot more effective this game, as Devonta Freeman ran for 86 yards on 15 carries, and also caught two touchdown passes. Sophomore running back Mario Pender ran for 82 yards on five carries and a late touchdown to round up the scoring.

Casey Pachall had a horrible game, throwing five interceptions and no touchdown passes. Heisman Trophy Winner Waymon James was also held in check, only carrying the ball 8 times for 44 yards. TCU held the ball for just under 10 minutes in this game.

Re: Roll Tribe - BMott418's Florida State Seminoles (NCAA 13)

#1 Florida State @ #5 North Carolina: ACC Championship Preview?

Tallahassee, Florida - Arguably the best two teams in the ACC go to battle this Saturday.
This conference opening game between the top-ranked Florida State Seminoles and the fifth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels is seen by many as a possible ACC Championship preview.

These two teams did not meet last season when Florida State won the national championship. The last time they played was in 2010, when North Carolina was able to edge Florida State for a 37-35 victory.

This game not only carries ACC implications, but BCS implications as well, with both of these teams in the top 5 of the coaches poll.

Re: Roll Tribe - BMott418's Florida State Seminoles (NCAA 13)

#1 Florida State holds off #5 North Carolina for 19th straight win

Chapel Hill, North Carolina - While this game was only a possible preview of the ACC Championship game, it had the atmosphere of the actual game.

Top ranked Florida State survived early miscues, including a fumble on the opening kickoff, and an early 14 point lead to beat fifth-ranked North Carolina, 49-34.

Wide receiver Rashad Greene had a great game, catching five passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, including a 71 yard catch to put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter.

Running back Devonta Freeman ran for 90 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries, and back-up running back Mario Pender ran for a career-high 129 yards on 22 carries to lead the Seminole rushing attack.

The Tar Heels fought hard, but the Seminole defense in the second half was smothering as usual. Quarterback Bryn Renner finished 218 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in a losing effort.
