Re: In The Montana Mountains | A NCAA 13 Relegation Dynasty
In the Montana Mountains
CB/PR Anthony Goodwin returning a punt 53 yards for a TD
Grizzlies Run Away from Huskies
Missoula, MT
Two things rang true in today's game. If you can run the ball and play good defense you will win. It was as simple as that. Montana didn't get off to a slow start. They played tough defense and gave their offense every opportunity to win the game. RB Peter Nguyen had a season high 152 yards on 25 carries. The first quarter wasn't a great quarter. Montana settled for a field goal, the quarter would end 3-0, Montana.
In the second quarter is when things picked up. Marlon Miles would get his first of two interceptions in the second and returned it to the 50 yard line. The offense ran it's way down inside the 10. That's when Jordan Johnson hooked up with WR Bryce Carver for 6, 10-0. The defense was stout today. NIU ran a bunch of screen passes. Some of them were successful but for the most part thats when the defense got a majority of it's six sacks on the day. The D pinned the Husky offense back and on the punt CB/PR Anthony Goodwin would break one tackle and get a key block as he ran in for the touchdown. Goodwin had a total of 145 return yards (kick and punt returns), on defense he notched 12 total tackles and got the key interception that ended the game. "No bad for our third CB and backup safety I'd say. Anthony (goodwin) had a great game. Thats why he plays often for us. Connor (Lebstock, FR starting SS) went down and we called on Anthony. He swayed the game in our favor today, I couldn't be happier for the kid" Coach Benson said.
The Huskies will host fellow FBS newcomer Texas State next week.

Commit Breakdown (All Commit Breakdowns are provided by ESPN Recruiting West Blogger Mason Kelley)
SS- Eric McMillan- 6-6 200 lbs, Abilene, TX, 3 Star - Chose Montana over LSU, Texas Tech, Baylor, Houston and SMU
McMillan is a huge safety at 6-6, he isn't the fastest of guys in the defensive backfield. He is still raw when it comes to man and zone coverage, but because of his size he is an excellent press defender. McMillan maybe moved to LB because of his size an lack of speed for his position. He should be a redshirt as a freshman.
TE- Jeremy Love- 6-4 252 lbs, South Plainfield, NJ, 3 Star- Chose Montana over Penn St, Pitt, Rutgers, UConn and Syracuse
Love is one of the best blocking TE in the class. He has decent hands but is a better blocker. He isn't for any position but he has good size and good technique. He'll probably be springing a running back for a touchdown more often than he is catching them. For coach Benson's system that's a perfect fit for the second TE in the two TE sets he likes to run. Look for Love to see a lot of on field time as a freshman.

I actually had a couple i kept in my SJSU dynasty.
I am only in Week 8. I am not in the off season yet. I have like 12 scholarships left even if everyone on my board commits. I am going to shoot high and get some 4 and 5 star guys in the off season that might have been overlooked.
A really great strategy I found out is that if you get some guys in state, or from states in your conference, using the promise "Promise a game in the recruit's state" really is overpowered. You can get 200 plus interest and not even have to try to get the promise completed. Also I did no redshirts (I don't redshirt Freshman much) and Guarantee Conference Championship. I chose the last one because I am in the Sun Belt, and it (as you know) is pretty bad.
Oh yeah, and you're right about offering scholarships early. If you don't it's easy to get left behind if you are recruiting a 3 or 4 star guy and he is interested in schools like LSU, Tennessee, Texas, etc.
