Re: FIU Panthers : Coaching career of Frank Beaule

Slow Start but First Win for FIU

Miami Herald – September 1st 2012

It took 1 quarter to get going for the Golden Panthers, but after W. Wright scored on long pass from E.J. Hilliard, everything fell in place for the team and their new Head Coach Frank Beaule. No one would say it was an easy game for FIU, especially after losing 3 players to injuries in the 1st quarter. QB J. Medlock was out with a concussion, WR W. Times was sent packing with bruise ribs while TE Y. Grinner had a bruised elbow and couldn’t came back in the game.

“That’s the time we’re you want to see those guys on the bench coming on the field and showing what they can do!” said Coach Beaule. E.J. Hilliard for one was spectacular coming in replacement of Medlock. The young QB was throwing darts on the field, but the Coach made sure he wasn’t forcing anything. “I called for short passes, tried to get him confident and feel the game. After 2 series, I knew it was time to go deeper.” add the FIU HC.

Helped by a defence that was bending a lot in the first half, Hilliard tried his first long pass for W. Wright who didn’t have to adjust to make the catch, the ball landing in his hand like a fruit ready for pick-up. After that score, the Golden Panthers never looked back and took the game 27-12.

It would be ashamed not to talk about the performance from the D in this one. S. Miller and W. Fraser we’re supposed to be the anchor of this defense this year, and they prove that they we’re worth the role the HC were putting them in. “We’re going to go as far these two guys will lead us on that side of the ball. Fraser is our Ray Lewis, he directs the traffic, and he’s the one pumping our guys. Miller is so gifted and so quick on the break that it means problem for opposing QB’s.” mentioned Beaule.

While the spirit was high in the locker room after the game, the coaches told the guys to enjoy the moment, but tomorrow, it was back to business. The Golden Panthers will open their season at home facing the Akron Zips.
Frank Beaule was smiling when ask how he envisions the season after that first win: “Let’s set it straight. I’m no bull and I won’t tell bull to these guys in the locker room. We didn’t beat Alabama or LSU today. No one will take us for what we aren’t. This being said, against team that are in our range and talent level, we should, and that’s will be my message all year long, give everything you have against team you should beat and you’ll won, do the same against team you are expected to lose against, and you’ll surprise them.”

Re: FIU Panthers : Coaching career of Frank Beaule

A little scare, then a blowout!

Miami Herald – September 8th 2012

It was the home opener for the FIU Golden Panthers and they did it in style. After getting out of the game early and build a 9-0 lead, they saw the Zips coming back and even getting close to take the lead. After digging out of the 1st quarter in front, the Golden Panthers we simply want it too much and left the Zips way behind. In the end, FIU dismantled Akron by a score of 47-10.

It was a completely different game for Kedrick Rhodes Jr. After a struggle in Duke, the feature back was simply unstoppable gaining over 180 yards on 27 carries. Late in the game, D. Hargrett put the icing on the cake with a spectacular run, a 63 yard sprint over the middle.

While almost everything went the way the team wanted, Coach Beaule was less than happy after the game. Not only was he clearly not please with the fact that his team let the Zips made it back in the game, but saw glimpse of overconfidence in players attitude. “I didn't appreciate it, that's a fact. Who they think they are? Alabama? Who they think they took a 9-0 lead early? USC? I won’t tolerate things like that. One week, we’ll face a team that will pile on us if we let up, they better be prepare for it.” said the HC.

Asked if he was somewhat surprised by the amount of empty seats in the stadium for the game, he went soft but was holding it a bit. “Well, it’s not a key matchup between 2 storied franchises. That being said, I was surprise and quite unhappy with the fact there was almost the same number of fans for Akron then for us. If people in this University don’t care about their football team, there’s nothing I can do about it except keep working and help this young guys get better.”

Now that the Zips game, which was supposed to be a win and was, is over, the Golden Panthers will have to face a much stronger team in UCF. In the next few weeks, key matchups are in the way. UCF, UL-Lafayette and a game against the Arkansas State team who’s now rank in the top 25. Frank Beaule summed it up quite simply: “It’s going to be harder, we know it. We’ll make sure the guys are ready to go a notch further, but I’m confident. We aren’t a powerhouse, but we’re doing good things so far. We just need to play a good 60 minutes and have no let down.”

Alabama-Arkansas should be a great game. Nice win over Akron though. The beginning of a great year. I can feel it.
