Reliving the Glory Days: a Browns Franchise (Madden 13)

Game: Madden 13 (Xbox 360)
Quarter Length: 10 Minutes
Accelerated Clock: On, 20 Seconds
Difficulty: All-Pro
Game Speed: Very-Slow
Sliders: Playing around with a few sets

Back in the day, the Cleveland Browns were a force to be reckoned with. They pounded the ball and were a tough team. Since then, many different "franchise players" and coaches have came into Cleveland and left shortly after, until today.

Taking the Reigns
With a new season about to get underway, Matt Lamm will have an opportunity to see what he has before making changes. To be frank, he doesn't have much. Not a lot is known about this new coach except that he once played the game himself while attending Ohio State University before ending his career with a bad knee injury. When interviewed, Coach Lamm had the following to say:
"I couldn't consider myself more blessed to be able to stand here in front of you and get the job as the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns. I'm very thankful and extremely excited to get the ball rolling. At the same time, I'm very realistic. Barring some miracle, this franchise is currently a work in progress. Right now from looking at the pieces we have, we are currently not a Super Bowl contender. Fortunately, we have enough solid, young talent to build off of to become a contending team. I'm not one to get involved with the drama that goes on in the press, I'm strictly one whos here to do one thing and one thing only: win games. With that said, I am announcing today that Brandon Weeden will be taking the snaps under center with the first team and Colt McCoy will be the backup. We have a long season ahead of us and it all starts today. Thank you and God bless."

Re: Reliving the Glory Days: a Browns Franchise (Madden 13)

Browns Win Big In Detroit
The Cleveland Browns march into Detroit and come out with a big win, 34-9. Just how much does the preseason scores actually matter? Apparently not much to the Detroit Lions, who pulled their starters after the first drive. M.Stafford (0/4, 0 Yds) didn't even complete a pass.
Coach Lamm: "I thought we had a good week of practice leading up to the game, so to see us go out there and have our guys execute and get a win is a good sign."
The person who shone the most is one who doesn't seem to play any role in the Browns attempts to build a Superbowl caliber team; Colt McCoy. The same Colt McCoy who was designated as the backup QB before the first day of practice. In fact, some could say McCoy played brilliantly, completing 17 out of 22 passes, for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns. An interception was also thrown. Weedan, who played for just a few drives in the first quarter, finished with a 4/6 39Yd statline.
The run-game was existent and contributed to the success of Colt McCoy. Cleveland's running backs combined for a total 137 yards with 2 scores.
Coach Lamm made it clear that he didn't want any controversy heading into the season. If McCoy keeps preforming better than expected, it will be hard to keep him on the bench.
Things are already heating up in Cleveland as they travel to Green Bay.

Green Bays Offense Too Much, Win 34-17

Aaron Rodgers was in the game for 2 drives. He was perfect, completing all 3 passes thrown for 102 yards, the first being a 94 yard score to the great Greg Jennings.

On the other team, Colt McCoy was brought back down to Earth. Completing just 43% of his passes, McCoy showed signs of regression, and fulfilling the cliche "one step forward, two steps back." Weeden completed 3 passes for 30 yards.
Not much as been going on for Weeden and you have to wonder if he should be receiving more reps. He needs the experience, and at age 29, there isn't much time for him to learn.

The other rookie, Trent Richardson, is living up to full expectations. He had 7 carries for 34 yards (4.7 avg) and even took a punt back to the house for an 82 yard touchdown! Somebody has been learning from his teammate Josh Cribbs.

As the Browns start to make cuts the team will come home and host Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Re: Reliving the Glory Days: a Browns Franchise (Madden 13)

The Cleveland Browns have cut center Christian Yount, defensive tackle Billy Winn, wideout Jordan Norwood, fullback Brad Smelly, and defensive tackle Scott Paxson.

Around the League

The Carolina Panthers have signed Tight End Jeremy Shockey to a 1yr/$2.50M contract and veteran Middle Linebacker James Farrior to a 1yr/$4.20M deal.
