Coach Mitchell's Quick Takes:

The Good

Once again we were able to completely shut down our opponents running game for 4 quarters. That alone reflects the strength and depth that this roster has in the front seven. Conversely our own running game was again solid with good performances from our top three backs and solid blocking from our O-line. We now also know that Nick Folk is very consistent within 30 yards.

The Bad

The entire passing aspect to our offense needs to be retooled. Receivers are dropping the few passes that actually hit them, the backup lineman are quickly overwhelmed on obvious passing downs and our QBs are taking too long to set up and throw erratic passes. Something has to be done immediately to help this situation.

The Uglies

QB battle – Game 1; Advantage - Tebow, Game 2; Equally ugly, but slight edge to Sanchez, Game 3; Advantage Tebow. Unless Sanchez comes out firing in the final week, this battle seems to be Timmy's to lose. Coach Mitchell is scheduled to address the positional battle in a press conference later this week. Stay tuned...

RB battle - This battle is all but over now, Clay once again had a few key runs where he displayed strength and purpose in the hole, Lex will serve as a valuable back-up and 2nd string third down back.

RT battle – With Smith having the better game in pass protection and Howard allowing a costly sack in limited time, this battle is well and truly still undecided. Whoever steps up in the final pre-season game and performs will be awarded the starting spot.

LE battle – Coples is still flashing big play ability, but he also disappeared during stretches of the game, especially during the fourth quarter. As it currently stands he may be best utilised as a situational pass rusher, and work in relief of Wilkerson.

ROLB battle – Thomas and Pace played better in coverage and run support this week, but Maybin continues to cause opposing QBs headaches. This will probably be a continual rotation that will be managed and altered every week.

Pre-Season Week 3

@MarkSchelereth reports: Solid signing by Kansas City to get J. Shockey under contract. Didn’t pay too much for a high upside player.

Analysis: Neither Boss nor Moeaki have performed as expected during the pre-season, so the Chiefs front office brought in an aged, but known, commodity. Most likely Shockey’s last chance to make a mark on the league and what better place than KC where Cassel is more than likely going to heavily relying on his hot reads.

Injuries to Note

Raider’s RE: Matt Shaughnessy – Forearm fracture (4 weeks)

Redskin’s RG: Jake Scott – Shoulder tear (4 weeks)

Colt’s DT: John Henderson – Shoulder tear (5 weeks)

Hot off the Wire: Jets SS Eric Smith TRADED to the Redskins!

(Hands up if you've been traded!)

The long tenured and stalwart Strong Saftey, Eric Smith, has been traded from the New York Jets to the Washington Redskins for a fourth round draft pick. Smith was entering his 7th season in the league (all with the Jets) and had even enjoyed a pretty solid pre-season, though with the addition of Yeremiah Bell in the offseason he had become the third man in a solid back field.

"Eric was a great player and a true leader during some tumultuous times here in New York. WIth the Redskins calling around for a starting caliber safety we felt that it that Eric deserved a chance to start again in this league rather than play second fiddle here. We wish him the best of luck."- Tom Gamble (Jets' GM)

It seems like both Gamble and Head Coach Luke Mitchell are not done shaping this New York roster, and now with several extra draft picks over the next two years they may have a solid foundation to create something special.

Jets Final Roster Cuts

QB: Greg McElroy - Got lost in the Tebow vs. Sanchez battle and never really surfaced.

HB: Bilal Powell - Another casualty in a positional battle, with both Clay and Hilliard proving their worth, Powell was the odd man out when the dust settled.

WR: Jordan White - Only got one or two opportunities, but still managed to drop 2 passes in three games.

DT: Damon Harrison - Showed flashes in limited time and but was the fourth NT in a 3-4 front.

Ooh mate, Powell is good. FSR he gets better breaks than Greene. Still good luck mate, I've had a mare with the Jets. Started with RL injuries to Revis and Holmes but also lost Greene to season broken ankle, sanchez out with dislocated knee 5 weeks and wilkerson 5 weeks lol. great!!

Coach Mitchell's Quick Takes:

The Good

“I know it’s the pre-season, but let me say this; I do not think there will be any team better than the New York Jets in the NFL at stopping the run. When we can contain athletes like the ones present on the Eagles’ roster then we’re doing something right. That being said; every man and his dog knows that this is now a passing league, which leads me to my next point…” – Coach Mitchell

The Bad

“Our defense allowed Trent Edwards to find back-up receivers all day long. If not for the eventual emergence of our passing game, things may have occurred very differently. The rust should be well and truly off by now, games from here on out matter and this new-look franchise is not afraid to jettison any flotsam” – Coach Mitchell

Pre-Season Week 4

Anything Can Happen

@MikeHillEA reports: R. Moss getting cut just backs up that notion that a player’s time in the NFL is truly finite.

Analysis: It’s not a storybook-ending for Randy Moss in San Francisco. He was cut today by the 49ers, leaving many to wonder what’s next for him?

Injuries to Note

Lions HB: Jahvid Best – Fractured Elbow (23 weeks)
Panthers DT: Ron Edwards – Complete PCL tear (23 weeks)
Patriots OLB: Dont’a Hightower – Grion tear (27 weeks)
Eagles RG: Danny Watkins – Fractured shoulder blade (28 weeks)
Falcons OLB: Sean Weatherspoon – Hip fracture (24 weeks)

Re: Big City Shakeup - Jets CCM (M13)

Times are Well and Truly Changing

Today at a joint press conference, New York Jets’ Head Coach; Luke Mitchell and his pop icon QB; Tim Tebow, made the announcement everybody has been waiting for. It’s Tebow’s time to shine in the Big Apple. Many sports’ analysts criticized Tebow’s choice of New York over Jacksonville, claiming that he may be able to beat out the skittish Blaine Gabbert, but that he wouldn’t be able to even compete with Mark Sanchez. Once again Tebow has pulled his signature move of defying all odds, doubts and naysayers, to achieve his goals.

“There were several factors that contributed to making this decision, the first and foremost being that I believe, without reservation, that Tim gives this team the best chance to win.” Stated Coach Mitchell. “His amazing work ethic and overall attitude around the facility has made a marked impact upon old and new hands alike. Now it’s time to see what he can do for the Gang Green.”

Tim took time during the press conference to thank God as well as the support and work of his teammates for the amazing opportunity afforded to him. He also took the time to make a short statement about his rookie Head Coach. “Coach Mitchell has been an incredible influence in my development as both a footballer and, more importantly, as a quarterback. I couldn’t be more excited and honoured to lead this football team and I only hope that I can make them proud and help them win games.”

While conference remained positive and upbeat, both Coach Mitchell and Tim refused to answer any questions regarding the Jets’ former quarterback; Mark Sanchez. Over the previous two pre-season games he could be seen ‘pouting’ on the sidelines during Tebow’s time at QB, often laughing and joking around with outspoken receiver Antonio Holmes. The Jets’ new front office and coaching staff has repeatedly made the importance of a cohesive locker room abundantly clear to all. The only real question that needs answering is whether Sanchez got the memo.
