Personnel Adjustments

Hiding in the wake of the Tebow announcement and due to an adjustment of offensive scheme, the Jets have announced the following roster changes:

Released

WR: Clyde Gates - "Clyde was a great player for us during the pre-season but with the emphasis now on sizable receivers to help in the run game and to provide Tim with larger targets, he just doesn't figure into our plans for now." - Coach Mitchell

LT: Dennis Landolt - "Dennis didn't provide us with any real reasons to keep him past the pre-season, unfortunately we felt there were better options in free-agency" - GM Gamble

ROLB: Ricky Sapp - "Ricky was a situational rusher from a past regime, our new defensive emphasis doesn't really allow for specialists like that." - GM Gamble

FA Signings

RB: Chris Ivory - "I've been impressed with what I've seen from Chris' limited tape from his time with the Saints. Due to the log jam in the New Orleans back field, I believe we've just received a valuable back-up to Shonn." - Coach Mitchell

LT: Ed Wang - Provides an immediate upgrade to the backup LT position.

TRADE

The New York Jets traded; C: Caleb Schlauderaff to the Jaguars for; C: Mike Brewster. The teams also traded multiple, undisclosed, draft picks.

"I see my job as three fold. #1 - provide the coaching staff with players that can contribute right away. #2 - provide the coaching staff with players that they can develop for the future. #3 - provide the players with coaching staff that can maximize their talents. I believe this trade is a great insurance policy for Nick while helping us build for the future." - GM Gamble.

Moss to Join the Jets

Just days after being released by the 49ers, WR Randy Moss has signed a one-year contract with the New Yorks Jets. Some believed that San Francisco was the last chance for the oft-maligned receiver and that once he was cut that he would dwell in the twilight zone of free-agency with other divas like Chad Johnson and T.O. Somehow he has managed to avoid that fate by landing with his once former division rivals.

"My decision to sign with the Jets ain't got nothing to do with Tom, Bill or the Patriots. Coach Mitchell brought me in to provide his QB with a big target that knows how to catch and the chance to start in this league one more time was enough for me." - Moss.

Among the Jet staff at the airport to greet Moss, was Head Coach Mitchell and newly named starting quarterback; Tim Tebow. With their game against division opponents; the Bills, only days away, Tebow will need every second with Moss in order to begin building the necessary trust and rapport for such an important game.

"I'm incredibly happy to announce the addition of Randy to our team, I hope to make good use of both his abilities on the field and his knowledge off the field to help develop our younger players. I know that he'll acclimate well to our locker room and provide veteran leadership to a relatively young positional group." - Coach Mitchell

Week 1

Cowboys @ Giants

The Cowboys travel to the World Champion Gaints in week one and they will be doing it without either DeMarcus Ware or Marcus Spear, both who are out with arm injuries. Time to see whether Dallas' retooled secondary contain the potent New York passing attack lead by Eli Manning and Victor Cruz

Redskins @ Saints

RGIII get his debut against an angry Saints team at home. The Saints will be without starting RT Zach Strief or CB Patrick Robinson, though they will still have their key trio in Brees, Colston and Graham.

49ers @ Packers

The 49ers vaunted defense against the league MVP. Football's version of an unstoppable force hitting an immovable object? We'll just have to wait and see.

Moss will be a good temporary edition, just try to draft a receiver or sign a younger one when Moss retires.

Injuries:No Injuries to note.

The revamped Bills' defense travels to MetLife stadium to take on the new look Jets. In terms of QB play, it remains to be seen whether Fitzpatrick's Harvard education can translate to football smarts, he does have the help of a relatively dynamic backfield lead by Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller. The Jets' "D" will have a hard time containing those two backs. Tebow and the Jets offense will be looking to minimize the impact of the Bills' front 4 while keeping the ball away from hawking safety; Jairus Byrd, when throwing. Overall an intriguing week 1 match up where we get to see two teams fighting to take that next step in an important divisional game. Good luck to Coach Mitchell in his regular season debut.

New Coach + New QB = Jets of Old?

Amidst the flurry of mid-week roster movement and marquee free-agent acquisitions, you could not blame the Buffalo Bills for overlooking one key area; the Jets' D. They are essentially the same group of players that wreaked havoc on offenses during the 2010 season, just add in mid-field enforcer like LaRon Landry and rapidly evolving D-line and you may begin to understand the full picture here in New York.

Fred Jackson could barely find an inch of running room before multiple defenders swarmed on him. Fitzpatrick did as admirably as any pocket QB could, when the pocket only lasts for a brief second against the revolving onslaught of the Gang Green. Revis re-established his island on one side of the field while Cromartie began staking out land for his own getaway on the other side. This only left the middle of the field, usually when vacated by blitzing linebackers. Unfortunately, for several of the Bills' receivers, this plot of land has a new name in law enforcement; LaRon.

All that was left to do was wear down the Bills' defense with a veritable range of battering rams. On a down side, Shonn Greene went down on his first play of the game and didn't return. That still left a running back stable of John Clay, Chris Ivory and Lex Hilliard, not to mention QB-FB hybrid; Tebow. While not wowing anyone with his arm, Coach Mitchell called several plays that used Tim's mobility to their advantage. As Moss only had a few days in new York before the game, many obvservers where surprised to see him activated for this game. Once again Coach Mitchell limited Moss' plays to simple hook routes where he sat down in soft coverage providing Tebow with a big easy target.
