SAN MARCOS, Texas - In a result that the talking heads predicted, Nevada overpowered an outmatched Texas State squad on the road in a 45-13 contest.

The story of the day was the Bobcats inability to get out of their own way. The team saw multiple long drives stopped short due to turnovers, dropped passes, or miscues.

"This team is simply not giving itself a chance to win ball games" said HC Franchione. "We have to be disciplined mentally and not turn the ball over"

With only one game left until WAC play begins, the Bobcats will need to develop this mental toughness if they hope to succeed.

The Bobcats (1-3) head to New Mexico (0-4) on Saturday (10/6) at 3:30pm. The game will be televised regionally.

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - The Bobcats went into Albuquerque to face a struggling winless Lobos squad. They left with a hard fought victory that was not as close as the final 30-23 score reads.

The game started off with a bang for the Bobcats as SO(R) KR Terrence Franks returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. The Bobcats would never relinquish the lead.

"I thought we did a much better job on both sides of the ball today" said Franchione afterwards. "The defense was creating turnovers, the offense was balanced and focuses, and the special teams unit gave us an early lead on the road which helped take the crowd out of it from the start".

The victory was not clinched without a loss though, as JR(R) DT Black McColloch dislocated his elbow and will be sidelined for possibly the rest of the season.

"We are a MASH unit on the D-Line right now" Franchione said when asked about the injuries his team has suffered this season. "The young guys will be asked to step up and should treat it as an opportunity to see the field and show us what they've got".

The Bobcats (2-3) will kickoff conference play in the WAC next Saturday (10/13) when they host Idaho (2-4) at 4:30pm. The game will be televised regionally.

SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Bobcats and Vandals played a turnover plagued game in Bobcats Stadium on Saturday that saw Texas State eke out an ugly 22-19 win at home.

With a total of eight turnovers committed altogether, neither side looked particularly competent on either side of the ball. Yet, for the Bobcats, a win still counts no matter its appearance.

"Not the prettiest game I've ever been a part of, thats for sure" joked HC Franchione after the game.

"Still, I think being able to win in any situation is valuable for a football team"

With the Bobcats off next week, Texas State (3-3) will face San Jose State (2-5) on the road in Week 9 (10/27). The Bobcats are hopeful that some key defensive members returning to the starting squad from injury. The game will be televised regionally.

SAN JOSE, California - SR QB Shaun Rutherford led a furious late fourth quarter comeback as the Bobcats defeated the Aztecs 38-35 in a offensive showcase.

Rutherford threw for just under 400 yards and 5 TDs in his best performance of the season.

The Bobcat defense gave up some big plays but also looked aggressive and opportunistic as they caused three Aztec turnovers.

Texas State (4-3) looks to keep their winning streak going next Saturday (11/3) on the road at Utah State (5-4). Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm and will be televised regionally.

LOGAN, Utah - The Bobcats faced the Aggies in blustery snow swept conditions on Saturday and fell 34-16 on the road.

The Texas State offense could never find a groove and consistently failed to move the chains on third down going 1-12 on the day. With little big plays being made through the air and no holes for the running game to scamper through, the offense had a long afternoon.

The defense was also unable to help the offense with good field position and allowed the Utah State running game to control the tempo and field position.

"Its tough when nothing seems to be going your way out there" said HC Franchione afterwards. "We can build on this but I hoped we were pass the point of coming out flat and not committing careless penalties".

The Bobcats (4-4) will return home next Saturday (11/10) to face Louisiana Tech (6-3) at 4:30pm. The game will be televised regionally.

SAN MARCOS, Texas - SR QB Shaun Rutherford will be soaking in the ice bath extra after yesterdays home 30-28 loss to the Bulldogs. Rutherford threw for almost 400 yards and 4 TDs on the afternoon but spent as much time completing passes as he did on his back after being tackled by the Bulldog front seven. Rutherford was sacked 10 times on the day.

"We can't have our quarterback getting hit like that" said HC Franchione in his post game press conference. "Shaun is a warrior and won't let it show while the game is going on but that kind of performance by our O-Line is disgusting".

The Bobcats couldn't get anything going on the ground against the La Tech defense so the burden of leading a second half comeback fell on the sore shoulders of Rutherford. He had a chance with just over a minute to go to possibly lead the Bobcats to another late comeback but the football gods saw his 4th-and-long pass sail out of bounds while being chased by the aggressive Bulldog D-Line.

The Bobcats (4-5) will will travel to Navy (7-3) next Saturday (11/17) for a late season out of conference matchup at 3:30pm. The game will be televised regionally.

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland - The Bobcats dropped their 3rd straight game on the road Saturday to Navy, losing in a 42-24 contest decided by the ground game.

Texas State allowed over 300 yards on the ground and never could find an answer for Navy's straight forward power game.

"We got out hustled out there this afternoon" said a dispirited HC Franchione. "We rolled over, we got punched in the mouth and we let them move us around all day up front."

The Bobcats were hopeful a few weeks ago that a bowl appearance might be in their future after a 4-3 start. Yet, those dreams of a FBS inaugural season bowl game look to be out of reach.

The Bobcats (4-6) attempt to right the ship in the "Battle for I-35" next Saturday (11/24) at UTSA (6-5) at 2:00pm. The game will be televised regionally.
