Re: TEAMBUILDER MAC DYNASTY: LA SALLE EXPLORERS (NCAA 13)
LA SALLE UPSETS WESTERN MICHIGAN, 21-16 Explorers survive a thriller against the Broncos Oct. 6, Philadelphia PA – Jesse Parks celebrated his return in style with a victory at home as the La Salle Explorers upset the Western Michigan Broncos, 21-16. Parks came to the field after a 3-game absence due to a broken finger and immediately threw a long pass to Justin Nance for a 70-yard touchdown. Brimming with overconfidence, the Broncos, coming from a recent rout of the Toledo Rockets, knew Parks could be rusty and never expected a heave right on the first play. Western Michigan’s offensive line was visibly shaky. Parks then led a drive to set up Draymond West for a short run to the end zone and La Salle was up 14-0. Not knowing what hit them, the Broncos got another surprise when John Singletary slipped from the wings and Parks again found his target, 21-0 at the end of the half. It was not only the La Salle offense but also defense. Western Michigan quarterback Alex Carder was hurried all throughout and was 0 of 3 on 4th downs. Coach Larry Coker said later, “The Broncos didn’t show what they were capable of. We did and we weren’t about to be intimidated.” At halftime, the Broncos got an earshot from Coach Bill Cubit emphasizing they lacked maturity. They responded and the next half was a battle. On the first drive, Carder found his main man Eric Monette streaking for a 73-yard touchdown. “Now these are the Broncos I know,” said Coach Cubit. But the rally was somewhat stalled when Andrew Haldeman missed a 35-yard field goal but he came back 3 minutes later nailing a 25-yarder to narrow the gap at 10-21. Parks, who had a field day in the 1st half suddenly found himself in a quandary as sophomore Demetrius Anderson and MAC sack leader Freddie Bishop put on the pressure and in the process registered his 6th sack of the season. Desmond Bozeman had 10 tackles with 4 solos. But not to be outdone were La Salle’s linebackers William Justice and Richard Greer who both had a sack besides 6 and 5 solo tackles respectively. All the Explorers needed were to hang on, however Carder, who finished with 285 yards passing, was relentless. He led a drive to the Explorers’ end zone then fed Brian Fields for a 6-yard run to narrow the gap further to a single score, 16-21, time down to 7 minutes. From there on, it was defense against defense and the Explorers held forth and forced a turnover on 4th down after Carder missed Clark Mussman with time down to 3:05. Parks drove Albert Hampton then Nance close to a 1st down but a holding penalty pushed La Salle further up. And with 1:33 left and no Bronco timeouts left, West rushed for 16 yards on 3rd and 7 to nail a 1st down and seal the win for the Explorers. The Explorers will travel next to Atlanta on October 13 to play the #13 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-0) at the Bobby Dodd Stadium which has an average attendance of 55,000 and hopefully that alone will not mean intimidation. Two good things going for the Explorers, however, Tevin Washington and Orwin Smith will both sit it out due to injuries.

Re: TEAMBUILDER MAC DYNASTY: LA SALLE EXPLORERS (NCAA 13)
SLAPPED AROUND, GUESS WHO Explorers take #7 Georgia Tech to school, 34-13, at its own backyard Oct. 13, Atlanta GA – Without Tevin Washington and Orwin Smith, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are just as normal as anybody else and this they found out. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said it right, “It will be a bitter pill to swallow, they were overconfident and came unprepared.” Unranked at the start of the season, upstart Georgia Tech zoomed its way to #7 going undefeated in 6 games. In front of 55,000 at their Bobby Dodd Stadium, the Yellow Jackets buzzed then crashed down with a thunderous thud. La Salle scored its biggest upset in school history, a rout of Georgia Tech, 34-13. The Explorers were not intimidated by the gigantic crowd as they showed maturity despite the Yellow Jackets making a run after La Salle went up 21-0 in the 2nd quarter. Jesse Parks threw a 35-yard pass to Justin Nance and scrambled to put the Explorers at the red zone on their opening drive. Running back Draymond West, who would end up with 98 yards in the 1st half, culminated the drive with an 18-yard touchdown. Parks will then find tight end Albert Hampton 15 yards from the goal for another score, 14-0. Jamie Edwards made it a rout with the first if his 2 touchdowns, a short 4-yard run, for a 21-0 count. Robby Godhigh made it a game somewhat with his own 5-yard touchdown but the Explorers came back with another Edwards run to the end zone. Parks was super at both ends. He passed for 191 yards with a high passing rate of 130.6 and tebowed his way for a game-high 119 rushing yards in 15 carries. Synjyn Days, starting for the injured Washington, was shell-shocked with a total of 6 sacks by the bull-rushing La Salle defensive line, 3 of them by Andrew Barry, and never recovered. Next stop for the Explorers is the Glass Bowl in Toledo OH for a meeting with the slumping Rockets on October 20. As the pre-MAC favorites, Terrance Owens and the Toledo Rockets lost much of their hype after losing their last 2 conference games and now languished at no. 11. They will play the hot Eastern Michigan Eagles, winner of their last 3 games, at the Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti later today.
