The Journey of Ross Jones (NCAA 13)
Ross Jones Could be on the Verge of an FBS Job Bristol (CT) - Sources close to the situation in Nashville, TN tell us that little known high school football coach Ross Jones is mulling over multiple job opportunities at the next level. Jones, 26, has coached just one year of high school football in Nashville, however, his unique blend of offensive and defensive strategies along with his inspirational personality have caught the eye of those who run college football programs. The head coach at Franklin Road Academy in Nashville is best known for a YouTube video, which was filmed in a high school locker, where he is extremely inspirational in a pre and post game speech to the players. He talks about the value that teamwork and fighting through adversity can have on their lives and while the game at hand is important for them, it will also give their families even more pride. That video aired just three months ago, but it has gained Jones a lot of notoriety. Franklin Road Academy finished their season at 10-2. They lost in the 2nd Round of the Tennessee State Playoffs. "After the conclusion of the 2012 season, Jones will have a pick from numerous colleges as either an offensive or defensive coordinator, or even possibly as a head coach", the source said. ESPN was unable to obtain comment from Ross Jones. Some teams thought to be offering Jones an opportunity could be those near the bottom of the barrel in FBS. Stay tuned for further updates on the situation. Re: The Journey of Ross Jones (NCAA 13)
Jones Announced as the OC for the Minutemen Nashville (TN) - Ross Jones has finally reached the next level. The high school head coach late Friday night was named the offensive coordinator for the University of Massachusetts. Joe Schad was able to reach Coach Jones for comment late on Friday night. "I would like to thank Coach Walt Wells for giving me the opportunity to earn the position as offensive coordinator at UMass. I can't wait to get started, but it is a bitter sweet feeling knowing that I will have to leave these great young men here at Franklin Road Academy. They have not only taught me a lot about myself, but they continually make me proud seeing the strides they are making in life. I will miss coaching them, but look forward to meeting my new players." UMass is in just their 2nd season as an FBS program after making the jump from FBS last year. The Minutemen are in the MAC and completed their first season at 2-10. The Minutemen were terrible to say the least on offense last year. They scored just 17 touchdowns on offense total (11 rushing and 6 passing). They also compiled the 3rd fewest yards in all of FBS. Their 6 passing touchdowns were the least in FBS. Jones signed a 2 year contract with UMass with many goals to meet in order to continue as the OC. "You can look forward to seeing a creative offense and utilizing our players to their strengths. I will recruit good football players and great men to this University." Jones leaves Franklin Road Academy where he coached for three seasons. Last edited by bucky3; 01-04-2013 at 11:40 PM. |

Re: The Journey of Ross Jones (NCAA 13)
UMass Signs 94th Ranked Recruiting Class for 2013[/center] Amherst (MA) - UMass announced the signing of 18 scholarship athletes for the Class of 2013. Entering the off-season signing period, UMass only had 8 players signed for the Class of 2013, but the staff went to work aggressively targeting players that could turn around the Minutemen. Recently signed offensive coordinator Ross Jones flexed a little bit of his recruiting muscle by landing 3 4-star WRs late in the signing period. The 38th ranked WR in the Class of 2013, Marco Armstrong signed on with UMass. The 6-foot 4 native of Garfield, NJ is excited to play under Coach Jones. "He called me only about 5 weeks ago, but in the end I had a great connection with Coach Jones. I'm really excited to see how he is going to mold this offense and can't wait to be apart of it. Not only are we going to be successful on the field, but I felt as though he can teach me things in life." Another key piece that Coach Jones was able to corral, was the 29th ranked RB in the Class of 2013 Patrick Burnette. "Patrick really has speed to burn and I will try and get him on the field where ever I can. He will be in multiple sets across the formation and can be dynamic on the field in space." "One thing we did miss in this class is a quarterback. Unfortunately it turned out the two players that I had targeted in this signing period were unable to join us and I will work with the quarterbacks that we have on the roster at this point." "RS SO QB Mike Megzyn is actually from Tennessee and I am pretty familiar with him. He played at Mount Pleasant and we had to scout his team during our playoff run two years ago. I'm looking forward to working with his skill set. I think he can do great things in our controlled passing offense that I will employ to take this team to the next level this season."
