Re: "A Descent into the Maelström" - qpc123's Baltimore Ravens CCM(M13)

Ravens beat Browns for 11th straight AFC North win

CLEVELAND -- There seems to be something about those plain orange helmets that fires the Baltimore Ravens.

When they see them, they beat them -- every time.

Joe Flacco threw 4 touchdown passes, two to Torrey Smith who also returned a kickoff 100 yards for a TD as Baltimore won its 10th straight game over Cleveland and 11th in a row inside the AFC North on Sunday.

That's nothing new for the and Ravens coach John Harbaugh.

"We're 10-0 against them," said Ray Rice, who entered the league in 2008.

Smith caught two Flacco passes late in the first half as the Ravens (6-2) once again found a way to defeat the young Browns (3-6). It was also Baltimore's 15th straight win following a loss, and it helped the Ravens shake off a the loss to Houston two weeks ago.

Baltimore improved to 5-0 after a bye week under Harbaugh, who was relieved following another rugged division game that included hard shoves, kicks, taunting and the usual amount of animosity.

"Whew," Harbaugh said. "That was a fight. That's a really good football team. They are well coached, tough and physical. They are building something here. They are an up-and-coming AFC North-style team. That was an AFC North battle."

Phil Dawson missed two field goals for the Browns, but Cleveland got into the end zone for an early lead thanks to quarterback David Garrard's 20-yard TD scramble.

"It's frustrating," said running back Trent Richardson, who gained 69 yards on 22 carries. "But we can't point fingers. We all have to be accountable for what we do. I've got to run harder. We gotta make better calls. We have to make sure we pick up blocks and catch the ball, and we have to do the right things.

After settling for two field goals early the Ravens, would score 14 quick points to end the half with a 20-7 lead. It all started when Flacco hit Torrey Smith a wide receiver screed that Smith took 61 yards to the endzone.

"You need a play to get yourself going," Flacco said of his throw to Smith. "That was a good one."

And get them going it did.

After a Courtney Upshaw strip/sack gave the ball back to Baltimore, Flacco and Smith connected again for a 37 yard pass that resulted in another Ravens touchdown.

Cleveland attempted to fight back in the 2nd half, but everytime they drew closer the Ravens would answer with a big play, be it Rice scoring an 81 yard TD on a screen pass or Smith taking a kickoff back 100 yards for a score.

In the end Baltimore left Cleveland with a 44-21 victory.

The Ravens will return home next Sunday as they welcome the Oakland Raiders to Baltimore.

Re: "A Descent into the Maelström" - qpc123's Baltimore Ravens CCM(M13)

Six Flacco turnovers nearly cost Ravens win over Raiders

BALTIMORE -- Before launching a comeback victory for the Baltimore Ravens, Joe Flacco first had to withstand the indignity of being booed by his usually supportive hometown fans.

Flacco didn't care for the treatment, although he could appreciate the sentiment. And it didn't prevent him from carrying the Ravens past the Oakland Raiders 24-23 Sunday.

After a hot start that put Baltimore on top 14-0 courtesy two TD passes from Flacco he would commit a total of six turnovers, three interceptions and three fumbles, that nearly cost the Ravens the game.

Then Flacco fueled the comeback with a gritty display of leadership and precise passing.

"You can take a few boos every now and then," Flacco said, "especially when you come back and win the game."

Oakland scored two defensive touchdowns on returns of Flacco fumbles when being sacked. Lamarr Houston's 18 yard fumble return TD, the second of the game, gave the Raiders a 20-14 lead heading into halftime and brought on the boo's from Baltimore's fans.

Each team would score a field goal to make the score 23-17 Raiders before Flacco redeemed himself.

An 80 yard drive that consisted almost entirely of Flacco passes was capped off by a Ray Rice one yard touchdown to give the Ravens the one point win at home.

Flacco threw for 307 yards with 2 TD's and 3 INT's. Rice would finish with 107 yards on 27 carries with the one score.

A much better performance will be needed from the Ravens next week as the travel to face division rival and 2nd place team the Pittsburgh Steelers.
