Re: "A Descent into the Maelström" - qpc123's Baltimore Ravens CCM(M13)

Steelers rally, end Ravens' run at home

BALTIMORE -- "That was a typical Pittsburgh-Baltimore game," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "It's amazing how it works out that way."

"Big necessary win for us tonight in a hostile environment. We don't take that lightly," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said.

The Ravens could have clinched a playoff berth with a victory. Instead, Baltimore had its 15-game home winning streak snapped and also lost for the first time in 13 games against division foes. Baltimore's last defeat at home was against Pittsburgh in December 2010.

"This game didn't determine the AFC North. We still can go ahead and win the division," said running back Ray Rice, who ran for just 47 yards on 14 carries. "We'll go ahead and try to get over this loss."

Pittsburgh trailed 10-3 in the first half and 17-10 in the fourth quarter before coming back.

Pittsburgh (6-6) snapped a two-game losing streak and kept alive their hopes of overtaking Baltimore (8-4) in the AFC North. The teams have split their games this season.

If the Ravens want to keep their two game slide from becoming a 3 game one, they will have to knock off the NFC East leading Washington Redskins on the road.

Baltimore will also be without future Hall of Famer Ray Lewis, who broke his collarbone and will be out for 6-8 Weeks. Lewis may be ready to return for the AFC Championship game if the Ravens can advance that far.

Re: "A Descent into the Maelström" - qpc123's Baltimore Ravens CCM(M13)

Ray Rice's 149-yard, 3 TD day helps Ravens defeat Redskins

LANDOVER, Md. -- Ray Rice won't soon forget the outstanding game he had against the Washington Redskins.

Neither will his mother.

Rice ran for 149 yards, and caught five passes for 30 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Baltimore Ravens to a 35-24 victory on Sunday.

"I laid my shoes over there," Rice said afterward. "I'm going to give them to my mom for Christmas. I'm going to sign them and give them to her on top of her other gifts."

In a game that had significant playoff ramifications for both teams, the Ravens used a time-tested recipe to end the six-game winning streak of the Saints.

On offense, Baltimore scrapped its high-powered passing game in favor of a ball control offense. And the defense, which had blown eight fourth-quarter leads, banded together to make sure it didn't happen again, even without Ray Lewis.

"I saw the game plan. I knew we were going to run the ball today," said Rice.

"We knew coming in that they were going to try to protect the football, try to run the ball. We just couldn't stop it," Washington linebacker London Fletcher said.

The Baltimore defense did its part, limiting the 'Skins to 3 second half points after a 21 point first half.

"I think everybody on our defense was thinking, 'We can't let this one go,' " Ravens tackle Haloti Ngata said. "Throughout this year, we've always let teams finish us off instead of us getting off the field and letting our offense finish the game. It just felt great to have our defense stop a great offense like that."

Both teams were without key players in the game, Baltimore was without Lewis and Washington was without rookie QB sensation Robert Griffin III.

RG III's backup and fellow rookie Kirk Cousins had an excellent first half, throwing 3 TD passes to give the Redskins a 21-14 halftime lead. However, he failed to generate enough offense in the second half to keep up with the Ravens.

Baltimore returns home next week for the first of back-to-back home game against the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning who currently lead the AFC West.

Re: "A Descent into the Maelström" - qpc123's Baltimore Ravens CCM(M13)

Manning outguns Flacco in 4th quarter duel as Denver defeats Baltimore 47-43

BALTIMORE -- The Denver Broncos no longer can be considered a notch below the best in the AFC.

Their 47-43 las minute win over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday showed just how good these Broncos can be.

Peyton Manning threw for 2 touchdowns in the final two and half minutes, the second putting Denver back ahead after Joe Flacco hit Torrey Smith for a 73 yard touchdown that had Baltimore fans thunking about first round playoff byes.

However, Manning had other ideas as he drove the Broncos down field and hit Brandon LaFell from 6 yards out for the final score of the game.

Not that Baltimore didn't have a shot to win the game.

In one of the wildest endings in recent memory, Baltimore had a shot to win the game from the Denver 16 yard line with no time left on the clock.

After Manning's TD pass to LaFell, Denver squib kicked the ball short. The Ravens still had two timeouts and Flacco hit two short routers over the middle to move ball near mid-field for a final "Hail Mary."

Broncos safety Rahim Moore was called for pass interference on the play setting the Ravens for a last shot at victory.

Denver was able to recover on defense and Tracy Porter batted the final pass away to secure the win for the Broncos.

Manning finished with 469 passing yards and 3 TD's.

For Flacco it was a tale of two halfs. He threw 2 inteceptions in the first half, but came back to throw 4 touchdowns in the second half. He finished the game with 429 passing yard, a season high, but the Ravens needed 16 more.

Baltimore has dropped three of their last four games and the injuries continue to pile up. You can add Terrell Suggs to the injured list with a broken collarbone, the same injury as Ray Lewis.

Suggs brings the total to three linebackers out of the Ravens line-up. Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome may have to shuffle the roster to bring a veteran free agent to help the Ravens cling to a playoff spot.

The Ravens home finale will take place Sunday as they welcome the defending champion New York Giants who are having a down season but cannot be over looked.
