Re: The Coaching Career of Stanley Benbow

The EMU Eagles took the short trip to East Lansing and got embarrassed by the Spartans. Despite throwing for 708 yards, the running game never got a chance to get going. Quarterback Tyler Benz had a career game, throwing for 708 yards 5 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. The game should have been closer but the two interceptions were returned for touchdowns.

Coach Benbow in the post game press conference said, "We should have had a chance in this game. A good Spartan defense wasn't on top of their game, but the two picks that were returned for touchdowns, that's what took us out of contention."

Former quarterback Alex Gillett also had a career game receiving, catching 13 passes for 369 yards and 4 touchdowns. Despite the offensive numbers, the defense couldn't stop the Spartans offense. Hopefully our Eagles can keep the offense at this level for the remainder of the season, and improve the defense, after two straight games letting a receiver catch over 150 yards.

Re: The Coaching Career of Stanley Benbow

September 21, 2012

Coach Stanley Benbow got his very first recruiting commitment today. He received a phone call from Jeremy Ward, a 3 star Free Safety recruit out of Ohio.

Jeremy Ward is overall the 29th rated FS in the country, and the 2nd rated FS out of the state of Ohio.

Hopefully this signing will help shore up the secondary coverage which has been quite porous early in the season.

Yeah would be really nice to keep Florida. Michigan and Ohio are a good base to work with though. If you can create a pipeline is PA too, even nicer.

Tough outing at MSU. Crazy Passing numbers though. Nice work. Hopefully you can get on the right track going into the MAC schedule.

Tough loss to MSU man but they are a bigger school and a better program. You had a nice couple wins to start off and picked up a nice recruit. Following.

Re: The Coaching Career of Stanley Benbow

Finally our EMU Eagles played at home in Ypsilanti, hoping to play well in front of their most faithful. When game time rolled around the stands were only about one third full. "It's rough not having the stands full but that happens when our program has had no success," stated Athletic Director Derrick Gragg.

The Eagles came out flying, with a beautiful pass from starting quarterback Tyler Benz to former quarterback Alex Gillett. Then the defense held their ground (for the first and what felt like the only time in the game) and allowed Donald Scott to return the MTSU punt 55 yards for a touchdown.

Coach Benbow was frustrated saying, "Our defense looked awful, there will be some major changes before next week, because we cannot win with a defense that just allows players to run rampant over them."

Quarterback Tyler Benz has thrown for 1,864 yards and 18 touchdowns in the first 4 games. He is making coach Benbow look like a genius by electing to start him. Coach Benbow is also being made out to be an offensive genius because of the stellar play of former quarterback turned wide receiver Alex Gillett, who leads the NCAA in catches (40), yards (764), and tied for first in touchdowns (10).

The Eagles dive back into MAC conference play after beating Ball State in week 1. They will once again stay home in Ypsilanti and welcome Kent State into their stadium. Athletic Director Derrick Gragg hopes that more fans will turn out to support the Eagles stating, "I'm no great football mind, but I believe that if our football stadium is at least half full, our defense will thrive off the energy that our fans will bring to the game and perform better."

Yeah our offense looked great against a BIG 10 defense so I'm pretty excited to see them perform against the MAC defenses. I am trying to recruit defensive player because our defense is just lacking in nearly every department...

Thanks for following! If I can do anything different to make it better just let me know!
