2012-203 RECAP
Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded up get Doug Martin to beef up their offense. Doug "Muscle Hamster" Martin was the focal point on the offense. Carried the ball 256 times for 1,441 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was really the only bright side of the offense. Josh Freeman played well below expectations. Freeman threw just 24 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Looks like Freeman will be playing for his contract next season.
What a season this young middle line backer had. All season he was making plays with his body and hands. Foster recorded 122 tackles, 2 sacks, 7 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles. He was the NFC starting MLB for the pro bowl. Rookie ROLB had a very good rookie campaign recording 68 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles and 2 blocked punts. Tampa's defense secondary was very weak allowing 30th most yards per game.

Buccaneers Free Agency
The Buccaneers went into the Free agency period with 26.3m spending money. Buccaneers focused on depth at the line, running back and a starter at free safety (retired R.Barber).What was surprising that Buccs didn't go after a singly Cornerback during the Free Agency period. They did go after two potential starters at the free safety position, signing Glover Quin Jr. and Sherrod Martin. Pre-season the two free safeties will showcase their skills for the starting job for the 2013-2014 season.
Paper wise this team looks very solid for the upcoming season. Josh Freeman needs to prove to Coach Greg Schiano that he is worthy to stay in Tampa. This season Freeman's contract ends, will he play to expectations or will he find himself on a different roster next season? Tampa defense secondary needs to improve this year, 30th against the pass last year.

2013 NFL DRAFT

2nd round 13 pick Tampa Bay Buccaneers selects Tight End Jacorius Linder from University of Michigan. After the loss of K.Winslow and D.Clark Linder should fit in the offense just fine.

5th round 14 pick Tampa Bay Buccaneers selects Middle Line Backer Cory Tyler from Richmond University. He has great side and speed, and just a good feel of the game. Mel Kiper "I think this is a steal for the Buccaneers, I have this kid going mid-late 3rd round"

He's a nice KR/PR too, but does expose him to more injury risk.
His injuries are are a problem he keeps suffering from the same shoulder injury every game. That and it doesn't help his iniury rating at a 64 I believe.

Come from behind opener Josh Freeman wasn't spectacular on opening day, but came through when it mattered the most. Buccaneers defeat Detroit Lions 23-16.
First quarter was all Detroit Lions, Stafford could not be stopped. Buccaneers defense couldn't find anything to stop the passing attack of Detroit Lions. Lions had 132 yards on offense to Buccaneers 68 yards. Tampa could not get anything going in the air, Josh Freeman's first pass to Vincent Jackson, Jackson went down with a broken thumb and would not return back to the game. That didn't help Freeman at all.
2nd quarter Tampa would find a little momentum. Martin running help Freeman with setting up play action and finding some receivers open. They would manage a descent drive to put a points. Lions continue to have success in the air, Stafford favorite receiver this game was tight end Tony Scheffler. They connected 10 times during the game and caught a second quarter touchdown over the middle. 1st half score is 10-3 Lions.
1st half recap
Tampa had no answer for Stafford in the fist half. Tampa had success on the ground with Doug Martin but was held limited yard through the air. Freeman was sacked twice in the first half, and that seem to make him to make him forces passes that he shouldn't. Lions defense was clicking on all cylinders in today's game, something that Buccaneers didn't expect. They held Freeman in check for the first half only passing for 90 yards. Stafford had nearly 200 yards passing in the first half, but only to put up just 10 points.
3rd quarter began with the Buccaneers, Their first possession looked like the first half. They would only get a first down and go three and out. Lions moved the ball once again to put up another three points to go up by 10 points. Second possession Buccaneers moved the ball very well running the ball with Martin & Redman. The drive would end with a 24 yard rushing touchdown by Redman, score is now 13-10 Lions. Lions and Buccaneers next possessions would go three and out. Buccaneers third possession looked good once again, capping off with a field goal to score 10 unanswered points to tied the game at 13 a piece.
4th quarter Lions received the ball after Tampa's field goal. Lions would cap off with a 58 yard drive ending with a go ahead field goal 16-13 Lions lead. Buccaneers first possession in the 4th quarter was an ugly one, Freeman would throw a interception A.Cason who he didn't see in a zone. Lions had great field position but couldn't capitalize with any score. Buccaneers forced a 3 and out and got the ball back quite fast. Tampa drives the ball down the field to kick their third field goal of the game to tie the game at 16 apiece. Lions following possession Stafford was pressured and made a critical error and was intercepted at Tampa 46 yard line. On a third and 6 to go Freeman found Underwood streaking down the field and connected for a long touchdown for a go ahead touchdown with 45: seconds left. Stafford step back on the field after his interception to lead the Lions back to tie the game. Stafford completed a 48 yard completion to Nate Burleson tacked at Tampa's 34 yard line with :23 seconds left. Lions called a timeout and now used their third and final timeout. Next play Stafford completed two passes to the 12 yard line with :7 seconds left. Stafford drops back and find a underneath route and completed but only to fall short time runs out.

Raiders Dominate Defense
What's not to like about the new look Raiders? In Dennis Allen second year as head coach he has put together an dominant defense. While the names like Phlip Rivers and Ryan Matthews maybe not be house hold names they are nothing to gouge at.
The game pick up in the second QT with the Raiders having a 3-0 edge. Former UTEP star Trevor Vittatoe connected on his first TD of the year with a beautiful bomb to DHB. That put the Raiders up 10 nothing with all the momentum. The Raiders would then pitch a 3 and out and get the ball right back.
On this drive what would happen would leave Raiders fans worried. RB Darren McFadden get lit up by OLB Shaun Phlilips fumbling giving up a TD and being injured all in the same play. Run DMC would tear his bicep and be scheduled to miss 6 weeks. Without DMC the Raiders offense still played well.
Vittatoe who's growing into the west coast offense completed first down after first down. WIth Vittatoe leading the offense and Miles Burris on D the Chargers could never find a spark. There offense was sloppy defense gave up to many 3rd down conversions.
Ryan Matthews ran like a old lady out of hell. Not a bat out of hell he resembled if you let May Young play RB. He looked old slow and didn't have the burst at all. Doesn't help that your QB isn't taking any shot down-field along with the defense looking mediocre at best.
The Raiders won 20-7 don't let the score fool you though. One team came out with heart and grit the other played lazy and slow. The Raiders travel to DEN next week for back to back division road games. Let's hope they can continue there recent success see you there!
