A New Era | A UCF Knights Dynasty (NCAA 14)
UCF quarterback Blake Bortles will lead the Knights in the 2013 campaign. A NEW ERA 2013 season marks first in new conference for Knights Orlando, Fla. A new era is underway for the UCF Knights football team. This season will mark their first in the American Athletic Conference. Expectations continue to rise for the Knights as the program steadily builds a tradition and now, the competition has been raised up a level. No longer is the cupcake Conference USA schedule confronting the Knights. Instead, the Knights will be faced with remnants of the Big East and the cream of the crop from Conference USA. Its a new era and it was enough to bring me back, said newly minted UCF head coach Andrew Kennedy, formerly known as crusaderhoops10 in the NCAA Football Dynasty world. Theres just so much attracting me to running a dynasty with the Knights this year in this game. Im looking forward to getting UCF on the map more than ever. The hand Kennedy was dealt is a decent one. The Knights went 8-4 in 2012 and beat Ball State in the Beef OBradys Bowl. There will be some key players departing most notably running back Latavius Murray who led the team with 1,106 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns in 2012 but overall, the Knights are returning most of their core players in 2013. You cannot replace a Latavius Murray, Kennedy said. Actually, you can, and we will. Our offense will most likely be strongest on the ground this season. Redshirt junior Storm Johnson will be the featured halfback in the UCF offense. The University of Miami transfer checks in at an 82 overall with 88 speed, 88 agility and 81 break tackle ratings. Johnson was the second-leading rusher for the Knights a season ago totaling 507 yards and four touchdowns on the year. All of the pressure wont lie with Johnson though as starting quarterback Blake Bortles will enter his redshirt junior season. Bortles has been a pleasant surprise for the Knights ever since taking over for former starting quarterback Jeff Godfrey in 2011. Bortles threw for 3,059 yards in 2012 to go with 25 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. He is somewhat of a dual-threat guy as well as he ran for eight touchdowns last year. Bortles is rated an 86 overall with 87 throw accuracy and 84 throw power ratings. His speed rating is a 73 with 84 acceleration and 83 awareness. There should not be any sort of quarterback controversy in Orlando this year, but rumors have already risen regarding the previous love Kennedy had for Godfrey. Godfrey is my guy. Theres no questioning that, Kennedy said. Whether that means it will be at wide receiver this year or if I need him at quarterback, well see. I just want to win and get this program to the next level. As far as Im concerned, Godfrey officially ushered in next level football at UCF when he was a freshman. I havent forgotten that. Godfrey initially came to UCF to play quarterback and started as a true freshman. He has since converted to wide receiver with the rise of Bortles and done fine in that role. He was second on the team with 39 catches for 429 yards and three touchdowns in 2012. He also completed two-of-three passes for 38 yards and two touchdowns last season, which didnt go unnoticed by Kennedy. Godfrey is the third highest rated receiver on the UCF roster at an 80 overall. Ahead of him are juniors Rannell Hall (86 OVR) and J.J. Worton (84 OVR). The skill position players are solid for the Knights, but this would all be for naught without a talented front five. UCF may have just that in tackles Justin McCray (82 OVR) and Torrian Wilson (80 OVR), guards Joey Grant (80 OVR) and Jordan McCray (77 OVR), and center Colby Watson (84 OVR). Were not the highest rated o-line, Kennedy said. But we should be solid enough to hold our own more often than not in our conference. And its as important as anything. If you can give your quarterback time to throw in [NCAA 14], it doesnt matter who it is under center, they can pick you apart. The same goes for the running game. It all starts with the five guys up front. If theres one thing that the Knights could hold their hats in recent years, it has been a formidable defense, year in and year out. The Knights didnt lose much offensively from last years graduating class but on the defensive side, rebuilding will be more of the theme. Gone are secondary studs Kemal Ishmael and A.J. Bouye, who each led the team with three interceptions apiece in 2012. Also graduated is linebackers Jonathan Davis and Ray Shipman, and defensive linemen Troy Davis and Victor Gray. The highest rated returners for the Knights on the defensive side of the ball are strong safety Clayton Geathers (86 OVR), middle linebacker Terrance Plummer (84 OVR) and cornerback Brandon Alexander (83 OVR). The only other defensive player rated in the 80s is defensive end Deion Green who is an 80 overall. Our lack of experience on the defensive side is what scares me about this season, Kennedy said. This is where we might get into trouble even in our conference is having teams really rack up the yardage through the air against us. We need to find someone to step up and be a playmaker. Terrance and Brandon each had an interception last year but that is it among returners. Troy Davis led the 2012 team with 8.0 sacks while Jonathan Davis and Gray each chipped in with 2.5 sacks. Green did come up with 4.0 sacks and Thomas Niles (76 OVR) had 5.0 sacks. The Knights will begin the 2013 season at home vs. the Akron Zips, who they beat 56-14 in Akron in the season opener a year ago. The road will get tough immediately following that though as the Knights will travel to Penn State for their second game of the year before hosting South Carolina, who is ranked 8th in the preseason polls. Are we ready? Not sure, Kennedy said. Theres only one way to find out. No more tweaking with sliders and playing exhibition games. Theres no more reason to waste anymore time. Im back! DYNASTY RULES System: PS3 Quarter length: 9 minutes Difficulty: Heisman Sliders: A few initial tweaks of my own. I'll probably be making a lot of changes as the games go on. Roster: Found one with names. Looks close enough. Playbook: I'll start with UCF's and probably use it for at least the first two seasons. Once Bortles is gone, I'll consider making a change based on my personnel. Recruiting: I can only target players that have UCF in their top 10 at the beginning of the season. I start out offering everyone a scholarship and spend points about even on each player weekly. Recruiting is a little different this year so I'll know more of what to expect after the first season. If it appears to be too easy, I'll set up some stricter guidelines.

Re: A New Era | A UCF Knights Dynasty (NCAA 14)
Strong safety Clayton Geathers was named to the preseason all-conference second team. Six UCF Knights on preseason all-conference teams Orlando, Fla. There are not a lot of teams that are as meaningless as preseason all-conference teams, especially ones for a conference in its first year of existence. Six UCF players have been named to the preseason first and second all-conference teams for the American Athletic Conference. Junior cornerback Brandon Alexander and redshirt freshman center Colby Watson were named to the first team. Alexander made one interception last season and had 62 total tackles for the Knights. Watson has never played a college football game in his life. Its amazing the respect Watson is already getting from everybody, UCF head coach Andrew Kennedy said. I mean, he has never played a game yet and is still getting picked to the first team all-conference team. How crazy is that? Hes like the Harrison Barnes of UCF football. Quarterback Blake Bortles, safety Clayton Geathers, tight end Justin Tukes, offensive tackle Justin McCray and returner Rannell Hall were all named to the second team. No UCF players were named to either of the preseason All-American teams. The preseason Heisman Watch consists of Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron, Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller, Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota. The Knights are not in the preseason Top 25 either and did not receive any votes to be in it. Heisman Watch 1. QB Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M (rSoph.) 2. QB A.J. McCarron, Alabama (rSr.) 3. Re: A New Era | A UCF Knights Dynasty (NCAA 14)
James Glenn returns an interception 65 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. Knights pounce on Zips early, roll to 59-10 season opening victory Orlando, Fla. — UCF cornerback James Glenn intercepted a pass on the opening drive of the game and returned it 65 yards to the house for a touchdown to give the Knights a 7-0 lead. That set the tone for the rest of the game as UCF dominated the Akron Zips in their home opener 59-10. “This game wasn’t going to be any kind of test,” UCF head coach Andrew Kennedy said. “We knew we were the better team and would win. This game was just going to be our first chance to get on the field together.” In the big win, the Knights would also suffer a big loss. Starting halfback Storm Johnson suffered a broken ankle in the first half, an injury that will keep him out for 11 weeks. Johnson had 70 yards on 11 carries before the injury and at an 82 overall, the redshirt junior was UCF’s highest rated running back. “Storm is a big loss for us,” Kennedy said. “Coming into this season, we expected Storm to carry a big load for us on offense and help cement a solid ground attack all year long. Players will have to step up in his absence and I’m not sure what to expect just yet.” Cedric Thompson did a fine job replacing Johnson vs. Akron. He carried the ball 19 times for 140 yards and two scores, both of which came in the second quarter. While the running game resembled a fine-tuned machine, the passing game was no slouch either. Blake Bortles had just three incompletions in 21 attempts in the game and racked up 197 yards and two touchdowns. “Blake had time to throw all day long and when that’s the case, he’s going to pick apart the defense,” Kennedy said. Tight end Justin Tukes had somewhat of a breakout performance catching nine passes for 110 yards as he was too fast and physical for the Akron linebackers to match up with. Akron’s passing attack was held in check all night. Akron quarterback Kyle Pohl completed 36-of-56 passes in the game, but for only 206 yards, as the Knights did not give up any big plays. Pohl was also intercepted four times. Pohl’s favorite target was running back Jawon Chisholm who made 14 catches but only for 31 yards as the Knight’s spied the screen pass all night long. The convincing win is a great start to the season for the Knights, but the real tests will come in the next few weeks. After a bye next week, the nights will hit the road to play Penn State. “I’ll learn a lot about my team in the next game,” Kennedy said. “We’ll see how we stack up against one of the better programs in the country and how we can bounce back from losing Storm.” Individual Stats UCF PASSING B.
