Brett TO and Ocho should have 95 or higher popularity which can give them the tebow effect for owners because they will sell jerseys and bring fans with them

Re: The Cleveland Curse: A Cleveland Browns Ownership Saga (Madden 25)

BEFORE WE FINALLY GET STARTED:

Hey guys, with my disc in hand and whole day of no commitments, I'm about 5 min away from starting this awesomeness. Expect updates throughout the day. Can't say when or how they will come in (could be in small tidbits or longer, more collective posts), but I will be playing pre-season through today, and taking massive amounts of notes on the Browns and the league, then I will have some stories for all of you.

Before I did that though, I made two final updates to my roster I posted earlier to reflect real life a bit, including some further re-ratings and cuts. SO some things are going to have been done here before the pre-season, because I considered them important to replicate. For example, this includes Tebow being cut by the Pats, which was a fairly noted announcement today.

Here are the changes that my roster has undergone, highlighted as two seperate versions, just so you know why, when I start my league, things are the way they are:

Final Custom Roster update Notes:
Some version 2.0 Higlights:

Ratings Adjustments

-Michael Vick up to 85 (playing looks much better than rosters credit him for)
-Fitzpatrick down to 74 (to help Locker stay as starter if you are not 32-team controlling)
-Matt Cassel down to 74 (to hopefully entrench Ponder as above)
-Brett Favre up to 74 (He should be at least as good as a scrub like Gabbert/Cassel/Sanchez even at 43 years old)
-Tyler Bray up to 68 (looked more solid than shaky)
-Kellen Moore to 70 (Nailed down 3rd job, causing thaddeus lewis to be traded)

2.0 Cuts
-Seneca Wallace cut from 49ers
-Havard Rugland cut from Lions
- J'Marcus Webb cut from Bears
-Crezdon Butler cut from Bills

Version 3.0

-(NE) TE Zack Sudfeld (+2) to 74 overall [Will be TE #2 for Pats]

- (NYJ) RB Khalil Bell (+5) to 73 overall [Showed he could start with a great few weeks]

- (NYJ) QB Matt Simms (+6) to 72 overall [Had best pre-season of all jets QBs]

- (NYJ) QB Greg McElroy (-2) to 70 [ Beat out by Simms, I'm hearing.]

- (FA) QB Tim Tebow (-3) to 70 [Looked so bad at times, the Pats couldn't justify keeping him-- also changed some tendencies to reflect propensity to poorly react to pressure]

- (SEA) QB Tarvares Jackson (+1) to 74 [Looks as good as some lesser starters, better than Quinn]

- (FA) QB Seneca Wallace (-2) to 70 [If you get cut by two teams and contemplate a retirement all in one pre-season, you aren't 72 overall...]

More Player Cuts

(These updates are derived from NFL's "Notable Cut Tracker"
[found here: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap100...e-roster-cuts] )

- QB Tim Tebow cut by New England

- QB Vince Young cut by Green Bay

- CB Antoine Winfield, cut by Seattle

- DE Jermaine Cunningham cut by New England

- CB Marcus Trufant cut by Jacksonville

- FB John Conner cut by Cincinnati

- QB Jimmy Clausen cut by Carolina

- CB Drayton Florence cut by Carolina

- TE Daniel Fells cut by New England

- TE Jake Ballard cut by New England

- LB Brian Banks cut by Atlanta

- QB Dennis Dixon cut by Philadelphia

- OL Tony Pashos cut by Washington

- WR Mike Thomas cut by Arizona

- RB Delone Carter cut by Baltimore

- RB Anthony Allen cut by Baltimore

- K Dan Carpenter New York Jets

- RB Lance Ball cut by Denver

Everything from this point on will be the work of my M25 universe!

Thanks so much for your patience! Now, let's get it onnnnn!

Re: The Cleveland Curse: A Cleveland Browns Ownership Saga (Madden 25)

Potential Reader Interaction Request

Hey guys, just another quick post. I want to open the floor to a popular request system regarding those 4 comeback players and more. IF there's somewhere you'd like to see Favre, T.O, Ocho, Klein, JaMarcus go, holler and I will consider it. I'm more of a guy who likes to let things play out, so I can't say I'd do it immediately.

But enough hollering from Fans may convince an ownership group to take a chance, if it's a realistic enough suggestion... right?

As well, throughout this entire franchise, I'd like to solicit opinions if I find myself at a supervisor's decision cross-roads regarding a player, team location, new ownership etc. So please stay tuned for those moments and chime in where you feel you'd like a say-- ALL participation will be considered and heard... Possibly acted on if it makes sense to do.

Yes! So psyched for this, it'll be great! It'd be awesome if you out Jamarcus Russell, Tebow and Brian Banks on rosters...please?

GAME DAY: Pre-season Week 1

Browns Blasted by Rams 38-17
QB Play, defensive secondary top concerns

Rams Beat Browns 38-17

This was not the inaugural game that the new Browns staff was hoping to put on the field. Nothing went right for the Browns, and the scariest part might be the fact that both its vaunted new look defense and its starting QB were the main culprits in the struggle.

To Start, the Rams immediately dissected Browns DC Horton's defense, with Bradford performing a perfect 7/7 and finding two touchdowns through the air in just one quarter of work. To start the game, Bradford found WR Brian Quick for the first score, and soon after, Jared Cook to put the Rams up 14-0 just a few minutes into the game.

As for Weeden, the presumptive starter, things could not have been worse. If Brandon Weeden looked spotty as a rookie, he looked downright broken this game, going just 2 for 7 for -1 yard in 3 full series'. Weeden was so poor in the opening quarter, that he was left out with the 2nd team for one series and still did nothing. Meanwhile, Veteran backup Jason Campbell looked much better to start, going 5 of 5 and leading the Browns to a TD to bring the game to 24-7. Though Campbell would throw a terrible pick to end his playing night. The Browns then gave way to Brian Hoyer, who looked awful going 0-4 and stalling out the Browns drives. Once the 4th quarter hit, The Browns put in newly signed Comeback hopeful JaMarcus Russel who looked slimmer (but still massive) under centre for Cleveland. Russell went 3 for 6 and lead the Browns to a TD on a screen pass to 3rd string RB Miguel Maysonet. However, with 50 seconds left, JaMarcus would later through an INT. In all, While most NFL pundits did not believe Browns Owner Alexander Jackson and Coach Rob Chudsinski when they said that it would be an open competition, they may have to now, after Weeden literally did nothing positive.

Reports indicate that Weeden will still start next pre-season game versus Detroit, but that he must show up if he is to make sure that Campbell doesn't close the gap. In short, the presumptive starter is still the starter, until he screws it up. Like any other team.

Other Game day quick hits/ observations/ rookie work/ standouts

> Rams rookie RB Zach Stacey looked great, carrying for 90 yards on 12 carries after Pead broke his thumb. He also had a 50 yard run.

>The Browns new look defense looked incredibly porus against the pass, allowing Bradford to go without a single incomplete pass and Clemens to chalk up a high 70s% percentage. The Browns need to look for help in the secondary

> Browns rookie LB Barkevious Mingo (6th overall pick) had 2 tackles, but horribly whiffed on a 1-on-1 chance to take down Zack Stacey, which lead to a 50 yard run. Unacceptable.

>Though the Browns secondary struggled, 3rd round CB Leon McFadden had his first career pick on the day. Additionally, unknown entity, CB Christopher Owens made some mental mistakes, but showed a willingness to be physical recording 4 tackles and 2 for a loss. That has to please coaches.

> Rams WR Brian Quick had 90 yards and a score-- he could finally be ready for a breakout, and maybe Bradford can sew down the franchise QB role at the same time. Bradford was the Player of the Game.

>Game day injuries: The Browns lost WR Josh Cooper for the rest of the pre-season with a thumb injury, word is that he might have been a candidate for IR if not for a few great catches. The Browns will have consider whether he is worth carrying into the season's 53 based on the state of their core, not his play. A tough thing to do. Meanwhile, the Rams will be without backup RB Isiah Pead for the next 2 weeks of pre-season.

Browns WR Josh Cooper made plays but will miss the rest of pre-season. Will he hang on to a roster spot?

Browns Extra!

"Get some help" -- After allowing Rams QB's to sit back and snipe at its secondary, the Browns have signed CB Richard Marshall.

"Dead Weight" -- The Browns have cut ties with QB Brian Hoyer, and RB Monterio Hardesty. They have also signed WR Sammie Stroughter after Cooper's injury ends his pre-season. Jamarcus Russell and Brandon Jackson will slide into the 3rd slots for this coming week, while Stroughter will see action as the 6th WR, and, more action as the game goes on.

"A chance" -- The Browns coaches have noted that Brad Smelley's good blocking at FB will give him a chance to start over Ogbannaya against Detroit. If he can replicate his blocking against the Lions' starters then he may actually be able to push Ogbannaya for the starting FB gig.

AROUND THE LEAGUE

MAJOR HEADLINES Summary

Foster's 7 week injury means much

"Down and Out" -- Houston Texas RB Arian Foster will miss 7 weeks with a dislocated ankle. For the moment, that means that RB Ben Tate will be the favourite to start the regular season.

"Big Man Falls Hard"-- After months of contract and value dispute, Bengals All-Pro right tackle Andre Smith will miss 7 weeks and the start of the regular season, re-aggrivating a common ankle injury of his.

"49ers Clear Clutter" -- The 49ers crystallized more facts about their WR core, electing to release 3 wideouts. The Niners terminated WRs Chad Hall, Austin Collie, Kasim Osgood.

"Geno gets week 2 nod"-- After Sanchez started week 1 of pre-season and put up just a 43.2 rating and committed his usual turnover, Jets coach Rex Ryan announced that, as per the position battle, Geno Smith would start next week, with Sanchez working with the twos.

"No More than Mediocrity" -- The battle for the Raiders starting job excites no one as yet, with QB Matt Flynn posting an abysmal 22.3 rating and two picks, while Pryor posted just 60 yards on 8 completions for a 60 rating. Flynn will continue with the ones for now.

"Open Lane?" The Jets are already terribly thin at OL, but starting Right guard, 30 year old Willie Cologne just went down for the year with a knee injury. Cologne's career may be about finished at his age, but the Jets now have a massive hole to fill, with W. Campbell pushed into a starter role. No word on a potential signing.

"Working Well" The Andy Reid- Alex Smith connection paid dividends in week one, with the Chiefs crushing the Saints 30-3 this week. Smith tossed 2 TDs and 262 yards for a QB rating of 127.8

"Eagles Fly High, QB Battle close" Nick Foles and Mike Vick are both attempting to prove their worth to new head man Chip Kelly, and both did well. Foles played better against the backups, throwing for 280 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception, while Vick put up a 100.6 rating and 1 TD. As per Kelly's system, the Eagles will allow Foles to start next week. They won this week 34-30 over the Pats. Kelly's offense was in rhythm, but his defense needs work...

"More questions come" After losing most of their starters from a superbowl winning team on defense, the Ravens were dealt a big blow this week. They will be without defensive leader LB Terrell Suggs for 5 weeks, Recently signed LB Elvis Dumerville for 5 weeks, MLB Jameel McClain for 4 weeks. They will also miss DE Brandon Williams for the coming pre-season game.

Russell, T.O. And ocho should all go to the same team. All three looking out for one another to survive. Like a packaged deal. How about all three to jaguars.

Re: The Cleveland Curse: A Cleveland Browns Ownership Saga (Madden 25)

PRE-SEASON WEEK 2

GAME DAY: Pre-season Week 2

Browns Offense Faulters, Lose to Lions 23-10
Weeden, Campbell Remain Abysmal

The Cleveland Browns continue to look like a team with some very serious questions. They are questions that need answers, but none seem to be forthcoming.

For starters, Browns QBs Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell look absolutely unfit to play thus far. Against the Lions, Weeden continued to struggle with his accuracy going just 8 of 20 for 80 yards in a whole half of work. Worse yet, Weeden threw 2 interceptions (both to Darius Slay) that resulted in 2 Lions scores, and he also fumbled on an aborted pass play, after being hauled down by Willie Young. The fumble was recovered by Nick Fairly and lead to an Akers 37 yard field goal. That's 17 points-for, for Detroit, all handed to them on a silver platter by Weeden. When we note that the Browns only managed to notch 3 pts under his stewardship, Weeden is a terrible -14 in the points department. Now, that's not a typical stat, but it lends some perspective. In fact, Weeden essentially gifted the Lions more points than the Browns even scored, given that the final was 23-10. That is NOT what you want from your starting QB. I wouldn't be surprised if Weeden's presumed place at starter is completely up for grabs now.

The Only Problem? Campbell was just as bad, going 1-for-6 for 17 yards. That's it. Not exactly going to win any battles, is it?

Browns QB Weeden is stifled by Lions, throwing 2 interceptions and just 80 yards

Strangely, the Best Browns QB (through 2 games in the pre-season) has been Jamarcus Russell. Russell played a whole quarter and went 9 of 14 for 95 yards with the Browns' only touchdown. It was a garbage-time strike to On-The-Bubble TE Kellen Davis, but at least it was something.

Russell showed his armstrength as well, bombing out what was going to be a sure TD to recently signed WR Sammie Stroughter, only for Stroughter to attempt a dive and drop the pass. Russell also had a terrible interception and some questionable reads, and he needs to work on his pocket presence (for such a big guy, being sacked so easily by a corner isn't a good look).

Now, I'm not saying that Russell is the best QB on the roster. But he has looked it-- and that may be what's most freightening about this whole thing.

The Browns simply must get it together in the secondary as well-- they allowed a big strike from Stafford to Fuller early on.

Other Game day quick hits/ observations/ rookie work/ standouts

> Lions Rookie CB Darius Slay was a man-possessed this game, notching 2 tackles and 2 interceptions of Brandon Weeden, including a highlight reel tip-drill that turned into a diving pick by Slay. He was taken off the field with an injury but we soon learned he simply had the wind knocked out of him.

> On-the-Bubble WR Tori Gurley just punched his ticket to the unemployment line with 3 drops and no grabs. Every pass was catchable. Gurley must be disappointed. Meanwhile, Browns WR Josh Cooper must be breathing a sigh of relief while he waits on the sidelines hoping to make the final 53

> As Bad as the Browns secondary has looked in spots, Browns Rookie 3rd round CB Leon McFadden is continuing to make statements. Today, his two tackles and 1 deflection was augmented by an absolutely bonecrushing collision with Lions WR Kris Durham. Durham had snagged the ball for what looked to be a clean catch, but McFadden was lowered his shoulder and de-cleeted Durham, seperating the ball from him for an incompletion. McFadden's hit caused much hoopla on the Lions sideline and one of the announcers questioned whether there would be a fine levied for use of the crown of the helmet. However, after NFL-IA investigations, McFadden will not be fined, as the hit was ruled clean. Additionally, Christopher Owens (CB) continues to make tackles in an impressive manner, but his struggles in coverage may sewer his chances of being a starter.

> Dion Lewis' (CLE RB) 7.0 average with 6 carries for 47 yards this game should make it clear he has what it takes to be a special contributer as well as Richardson's primary backup. As well, Miguel Masonette has shown great moves and looks likely to make the roster so far.

> The Lions operated what was primarily a passing-only attack, neglecting to give Reggie Bush a single carry. He was utilized in the pasisng game, but only Joique Bell saw ground work. Interesting note.

>Game day injuries: The Browns lost MLB James-Michael Johnson late in the game with a shoulder injury that will end his season. Though the shoulder is not expected to have been that serious, it would have forced the depth-player to miss 7 weeks. It is unknown if the Browns plan to make any other signings at the position

Browns Extra!

Browns QBs Weeden and Cambell continue to struggle with new offense

Browns Head Coach Rob Chudzinski says Campbell will start versus Colts, Weeden will follow

In what may be the most telling announcement of just how poor the Cleveland Browns QB derby is, Rob Chudzinski has seemingly made it known that the QB battle is in full-throat by anointing Cambell the ceremonial rite of Pre-season starter. Campbell will get to show his stuff, and Weeden will have the 3rd quarter to ward off Jason.

What's most telling though? Through 2 games, JaMarcus Russell is the only Browns QB to record a touchdown passing (2) this pre-season. Yikes!

"Jason will get his chance" said Chud. When pressed for more, he simply said "All along its been a competition. I've said that from day one, and I meant it, and it's Jason's turned.

When one reporter brought up the possibility of JaMarcus getting a look with the one's, Chud seemed tight lipped "JaMarcus has done some nice things for us, there's some things he needs to work on, but we like how he's coming along. I think when it's been 3 seasons out of football-- or whatever it is-- things take time.

So, if you didn't believe the Cleveland QB battle was afoot, you better believe it now. Could it turn into a 3-way race with the comeback kid in Russell?

"Swope In" -- WR Ryan Swope has been signed by the Cleveland Browns after the release of WR Tori Gurley. Swope was advised to retire after a 4th concussion but has since received a cautioned-cleareance. His draft contract with the Cardinals was voided when Swope retired without playing a game.

"Bad-Man Bademosi" -- The Browns may have something in unsung SS Johnson Bademosi who showed a knack for both physical play and ball-hawking in two pre-season games. Bademosi intercepted Sean Hill at the Browns 3 yard line, going up over Ryan Broyles to make the key snag.

" Brad Smelley gains ground" -- Last week, we noted that Brad Smelley was gaining reps with a better ability for impact blocks when compared with recently converted FB Chris Ogbannaya. There's no question that Ogbo has a better runner's skillset, but the Browns seem to covet a bulldozer, and like what they have in Smelley. Smelley may be the David that takes down the goliath in this battle. He will start again. If he wins this battle, the unlikely Smelley will once again team-up with Trent Richardson like at Alabama.

AROUND THE LEAGUE

MAJOR HEADLINES

Once behind Sanchez, Geno Smith now has a chance to take a strangle hold on the Jets' starting job while Sanchez struggles

"Untimely Injury" -- The Arionza Cardinals got bad news today, hearing that super star corner Patrick Peterson will miss up to 7 weeks with a Hamstring Injury

"Flynn pulls win" -- Raiders QB Matt Flynn was not efficient in week 2, but he put together two big drives to snag touchdowns for the Raiders en route to a 24-17 win for Oakland. Pryor's effect was once again minimal, prompting Dennis Allen to demote Pryor for next week and raise Matt McGloin to the backup role for a shot. As of now, Flynn looks to be the leader in a shakey position battle.

"QB Arena gains clarity" -- The game between the Jaguars and Jets went to the Jets, 16-13, but both teams got negative clarity on their presumptive starters at QB. It was believed Sanchez would be tabbed to start the season, but after a tough outing with the ones last week, and an Abysmal 34% completion and another turnover working with the twos, Sanchez seems to be throwing the battle away. Rex Ryan conformed as much, suggesting that Geno would remain with the first team for week 3. Meanwhile, while Gabbert had been the better performer, Henne thoroughly outplayed him in this one and seems to be closing the gap. Can he make it up in time? He'll still be running with the twos next week.

"Smith Rolls versus former club" Alex Smith has been the most successful QB this pre-season and his success continues as he lead the Chiefs to a win over the 49ers with Two touchdowns in just 1 quarter of work. Smith may have found a player in Donnie Avery, who snagged 7 balls for 90 yards and two scores as well.

"Run Johnny Run" -- Johnathan Stewart has been a force through 2 pre-season games, piling up 170 yards and 2 touchdowns. He looks likely to seize the job from DeAngelo Williams.

"Services no Longer required" -- After posting an abysmal 17.2 rating and 2 interceptions in two pre-season games, Drew Stanton, the man who Bruce Arians once said he'd be fine having as starter (before he felt the need to trade for Palmer) has been released. The team signed QB Jordan Rodgers (Brother of Aaron) to take the 3rd QB spot, while Ryan Lindley assumes the backup role.
