Re: Rebuilding the Bills (Madden 07)
Bills Silence Bengals! All of the NFL experts were calling for a high scoring, back and forth game. The Bills had other plans. From the opening kickoff until the end of the game Buffalo controlled every aspect of the game in the most surprising game of the early season. The Bills got a field goal on the opening kickoff and let the defense take it from there. Carson Palmer looked confused as he couldn't find an open receiver, then he got frustrated. In one of the worst showings of his career he was just 8 for 26. Chad Johnson, who was tied for the NFL lead in receptions, had 1 reception for 5 yards. The Bengals did not have a first down until late in the 3rd quarter and was held to 12 yards of offense at the half. There was no major star for the Bills defense. Terrence McGee did have a score, London Fletcher deflected 3 passes and Ashton Youboty intercepted a pass in the end zone. It was a complete team effort. Outside linebacker Takeo Spikes had this to say, "We've been taking our lumps so far this year. The coaches have been challenging us to step it up. As a unit, we've been frustrated by our play, but that all changed this week." On offense, Willis McGahee shined again. He had another 100 plus yard effort. The bright spot had to be London Smith though. He threw for over 200 yards and one touchdown. After the game I asked him how he felt, "It's always good to have a game like this. I was really nervous and I prayed and there was just a peaceful feeling. The Lord really calmed me and helped me clear my mind. This receiving corps did a good job of getting open, and our run game and offensive line really helped control the line of scrimmage and made it easy on us. I wish I would have had those 2 interceptions back, but this is the NFL and there's lots of good defenses. I'll get into the film room and watch the tape and correct those mistakes." Coach Jauron was ecstatic, "This is how we should play football. It was tough, physical, mental, just line everyone up, man for man football. This team came together and played as a complete unit for the first time all season." The Bills hope to get Lee Evans back next week for his first action of the regular season. His slack has been picked up by Roscoe Parrish and physically imposing rookie Spencer Williams. Williams has 13 receptions, 12 of them were good for first downs. Parrish has 198 yards on 8 catches for an average of 24.7 yards per reception. The Bills will welcome in the Dallas Cowboys next week. Dallas comes in at 1-3 on the season, having lost their last 3. They were shut out 17-0 by the 49ers last week and only managed 107 yards.

Re: Rebuilding the Bills (Madden 07)
Midweek Preview, 10 minutes with Takeo and Around the League The Cowboys come into the game 1-3. They were embarrassed by the San Francisco defense, barely getting 100 yards on offense. Tony Romo is coming in with a 72.9 QB rating. He is only completing 56% of his passes and is the main reason for their offensive struggles. Julius Jones has 405 yards but is only averaging 3.7 yards per carry. Dallas spreads the ball in their passing game. 3 receivers are in double digits, led by Jason Witten. Julius Jones is also tied for the team lead with 16 catches on the early season. Dallas has a solid defense, but the good news for Bills fans is that Demarcus Ware is out for the week. As a team the Cowboys have 13 sacks and 6 interceptions. 3 of those picks come from the early winner of Defensive Rookie of The Year Vinnie Spires. Vinnie attended college at Ohio State and reminds people of Deion Sanders with great speed, acceleration and good hands. Spires has allowed 3 catches on the season and deflected 4 passes. Mike Vanderjagt is having a terrible year as a kicker. He is only 2 for 6 on the year. This is a tough one to call. The Bills' passing game has been struggling, but their run game is flourishing. DeMarcus Ware being injured will help out, but I don't know if that's enough for Buffalo to win. My Prediction is Dallas 28 Buffalo 17. 10 Minutes with Takeo After practice on Tuesday, I sat down with team captain Takeo Spikes and asked him about this week. "Thanks for taking some time to talk with us, records wouldn't really indicate it, but this is a big game." Takeo: "No problem, this is a very big game. Both teams are going in opposite directions. We need to win this game to keep our momentum going, it's one of the teams we should beat if you look at the record. It's a big game for them because this might be one that saves their coach's season." "You mentioned both teams records, but outside of that it's an even matchup." Takeo: "Yes it is even. Both quarterbacks are rather fresh, London is coming off a great start and Romo not so great. Our running game is a lot better than theirs. I think that's going to be the difference." One defense what do you have to do to win? Takeo: "Play better than last week (laughs). We have good players, we're molding into the coaching scheme as we showed last week. We just need to take care of the fundamentals. We need to tackle and keep guys in front of us." Thanks once again Takeo! Around The League Buffalo is currently 1st in the league in offensive yards while Detroit is leading the league in points, averaging 29.6. The Ravens have only allowed 770 yards on defense. Carolina leads the league in scoring defense, only allowing an average of 7.6 points per game. Green Bay has 17 sacks and Tennessee has 11 interceptions. The Eagles, Seahawks, Bears and Panthers are all undefeated. Peyton Manning still leads the game in passing. Matt Hasselbeck has yet to throw an interception. On the ground, Willie Parker leads the league with 550 yards. Frank Gore is on his heels with 519. Ben Watson now leads the league in receptions with 29. A trio of wideouts, Hines Ward, Nate Burleson and Steve Smith, lead the league with 4 receiving touchdowns. Derek Smith leads the league with 43 tackles, Mario Williams has 5 sacks. Vinnie Spires, Keith Bulluck and Will Allen lead the league in interceptions with 3. That's it for the weekly report. On Sunday, it's Dallas vs. Buffalo at Ralph Wilson Stadium! |

Re: Rebuilding the Bills (Madden 07)
Bills KO Cowboys,Romo Buffalo moved to 4-1 on Sunday after dismantling the offensive line of the Dallas Cowboys. Tony Romo was under pressure all day as Anthony Simmons recorded 3 sacks. Romo was knocked out in the 4th and early reports are he will be out for 10 weeks. Buffalo got scoring from Willis McGahee and Kevin Robbins. It was McGahee's first touchdown of the year as Robbins sealed off the right side and allowed Willis to go in untouched. Early in the game Kevin Robbins made another key play. After a few successful runs, London Smith served up a nice play action and found Kevin Robbins wide open on the left hash mark. The pass was picture perfect as Robbins had one man 5 yards in front of him to beat. It would not be Vinnie Spires shining moment as he got ran over by Robbins. 57 yards later Robbins is in the end zone and was so excited he jumped into the waiting arms of some Buffalo fans. Defense was the name of the game for both sides. Vinnie Spires continued to impress adding another interception to his total. The Dallas blitz scheme kept pressure on London Smith and forced another interception to stop a red zone scoring attempt. The Bills added pressure of their own as Tony Romo danced around but couldn't find anyone open. Anthony Simmons had 3 sacks and has solidified his starting spot at outside linebacker. Romo ended up throwing 2 horrible interceptions that really put Dallas out of the game. The run game was the strong point of the Cowboys offense, but it wasn't consistent enough to sustain drives. London Smith continues to impress fans and coaches with his ability. His decision making is a different story. He threw 2 interceptions again in this game, one was a great play by the defense. The other was into double coverage. We asked Smith about it after the game. "Yeah that was terrible on my part. I have a big arm and sometimes a big head and think I can fit the ball where it doesn't belong. Great job by Eric Moulds though today." Smith was right about Moulds. He had 4 receptions and helped kept the chains moving all game long. The Bills used some trickeration this game going for it on 4th and 2. Buffalo lined up for a punt and instead snapped it to the upback, Brad Cieslak, who rumbled for the first down. Dallas coaches were also in an uproar about going for it on 4th down 2 other times, one in which the Bills used a no huddle approach. I asked Coach Jauron about it and he said, "We wanted to get Landon some reps on 4th down, that's why we called a no huddle. The other time, yeah that was to get under Dallas's skin. They called a time out with 25 seconds left. You're down 17. We didn't wanna give the ball back up." Next week the Colts visit Buffalo and it's being hailed as the game of the week. It's going to be Peyton Manning vs. the hotshot rookie. The Colts come in at 3-1. |
