Jets Stymie Bills, but Victory Proves Costly
Lose Rhodes and Turner in win
The Jets may have beaten the Bills and improved to 3-0, but the injury parade keeps rolling along as this week Kerry Rhodes was sidelined with broken ribs, which he suffered when he picked off EJ Manuel in the end zone. Add to that Michael Turner's broken jaw which he suffered mid-way through the first quarter, and the Jets now have four starters out, with Stephen Hill expected to need another week or two, and Sheldon Richardson not looking at getting back on the field until mid-October.
The Jets once again waited until the fourth quarter to get going, settling for two short Nick Folk field goals in the first half, and a long miss which would have given them a lead. Buffalo threatened twice, as EJ Manuel threw a 22 yard touchdown pass to Marquise Goodwin on an all out blitz, and later in the half Manuel threw an interception to Kerry Rhodes on a poorly thrown ball.
The New York defense shut down the elusive C.J Spiller, allowing him just 9 yards rushing on 12 carries, and overall giving up just 229 yards of offense to the Bills. Buffalo never threatened in the second half, cross mid field only two times, allowing the Jets to get the momentum.
Mike Goodson had a huge day in relief of Michael Turner, carrying 28 times for 127 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came on one yard dives set up by Kirk Cousins passes to Santonio Holmes, who both times was stopped at the 1 yard line. It may not have been a statistically great day for Cousins, but he played his best game, only turning the ball over once on an acrobatic interception by Jairus Byrd in the second quarter.
Other than the pick Cousins looked cool in the pocket, and made timely throws. He was hurt by 7 drops, 3 alone by Holmes in his 15 of 29 performance.
Jairus Byrd made the play of the season so far with this one handed interception.
The Jets are the literal definition of the walking wounded. Two defensive starters, and two offensive starters, along side two special teamers for the Jets are out. They will need their backups to step up and play big if they are going to keep their hot start going.
The Jets Win If...Kirk Cousins keeps improving, and Mike Goodson can run the ball the way he did against the Bills.
The Titans Win If...Chris Johnson can continue to dominate on the ground, and the Titans defense can keep pressure on Cousins.
Captain Kirk! Cousins Leads Jets to W
Leaves game with dislocated finger, but has best performance to date
The Jets finally got the performance they were looking for when they traded for Kirk Cousins before he left in the fourth quarter with a dislocated thumb. Cousins, who is day to day and should be ready for next Monday night against Atlanta threw for 322 yards and 3 touchdowns, to just 1 interception, with the touchdown passes of 37, 22, and 19 yards to three separate receivers.
It looked like it would be all Titans early after Mike Goodson fumbled the kickoff after Rod Bironas had nailed a 53 yard field goal, but the defense bailed him out, holding Tennessee to another Bironas field goal. Goodson would make up for the fumble on the next drive, capping it off with a 3 yard touchdown run.
Tennessee would extend their lead to 6 with just under three minutes to go in the half, when Ryan Fitzpatrick hit Kenny Britt for a 7 yard score. It seemed as if the Titans would go into the half with a lead, but on 3rd and 9 from the 22 Cousins laid a perfect ball over the shoulder of Kellen Winslow, in triple coverage for the score, and the lead.
The Jets would extend that lead on the first drive of the second half as Cousins would hook up with Santonio Holmes from 37 yards out to push the lead to 8 before the Titans reeled off 13 straight points, pushing the Jets backs up against the wall.
Captain Kirk would answer less than a minute later, hitting Clyde Gates on a 19 yard fade to the corner of the end zone. Cousins was 4 of 4 for 65 yards on the drive.
Tennessee would have another shot to take the lead, but Fitzpatrick threw his second pick of the game, this time Jaiquawn Jarrett skied to pick him off and tip toed the sideline. After review the pick stood, and the Jets ran the clock out, pushing their record to 4-0 ahead of their Monday Night showdown in Atlanta.
Kirk Cousins led the way for the Jets in Music City
Kirk Cousins is lighting it up and showing he deserves to be a starter! Hopefully he can keep it up! Holmes had a big day as well. An awesome start to the season, too bad this will likely not happen in real life for you, lol.

I'm finally figuring out how to play with Kirk within these sliders.

Rex Ryan Watch
Job Security Level | Extension?
The Jets are improbable 4-0 after going to Foxboro and dominating Tom Brady and the Patriots, rolling over the Bills, and coming from behind to top the Titans. Ryan has instilled his defense, and the Jets have been relentless so far this season.
If they continue to win and can do something in the playoffs, despite the past two years, Rex Ryan may be looking at a job next year in New York.
