The Good

• Rookie HB Kenjon Barner has big debut for Carolina; carrying the ball 16 times, for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns.

• Starting QB Cam Newton posts perfect passer rating. Newton played in first quarter, completing 5 of his 6 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.

• QB Derek Anderson plays well as he goes 12/16 for 183 yards - throwing a touchdown and an interception in the process.

• Rookie TE Ryan Otten (signed in camp) comes up big as he brings down 4 balls for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns.

• Defense forces 5 turnovers in blowout. D.J. Moore, Terry Hawthorne and Ras-I Dowling record interceptions. Julian Stanford, Haruki Nakamura & Mario Addison force fumbles.

The Bad

• Running Back DeAngelo Williams struggled against starting Bears defense. Williams held to just 17 yards on 7 carries in 1st half. Plays 2nd half next week in Philadelphia. Jonathan Stewart starts.

• Offensive Line allows 3 sacks. Amini Silatolu, Byron Bell and Garry Williams were the culprits.

• HB Jonathan Stewart left game late in 2nd quarter. He said he had a back spasm, before saying that he should be fine in a day or two.

PANTHERS ANNOUNCE ROSTER CUTS - TRIM ROSTER TO 65

Charlotte, NC -- The Carolina Panthers cut eight players Tuesday night to trim their roster down to 65 ahead of their trip to Philadelphia to play the Eagles on Thursday. There are no surprise names and no big-name cuts thus-far.

FS - Colin Jones - Position is overcrowded
SS - Anderson Russell - Position is overcrowded

Observations

The Good

• Cam Newton once again plays well. Playing in the 1st quarter, Newton went 6/7 for 143 yards and a touchdown as well as 23 yards rushing on 2 carries.

• WR Domenik Hixon has a big game on offense. Hixon caught 5 balls for 105 yards and a touchdown.

• Panthers' defense plays well against the pass. Eagles held to 209 yards through the air with Terry Hawthorne, Haruki Nakamura and Mario Addison recording QB sacks.

The Bad

• Both backup quarterbacks struggled. Derek Anderson was 10/22 for 114 yards and an interception. Jimmy Clausen was 3/7 for 29 yards.

• HB Jonathan Stewart went down with an injury again. Stewart left game in 1st quarter with a pinched nerve but he did not return. Stewart ran for 24 yards on 4 carries.

• Right Tackle remains an issue for the Panthers. Brandyn Dombrowski and Bruce Campbell both allow quarterback sacks.

• Panthers' defense struggled against the run. Eagles back Bryce Brown ran for 199 yards on 19 carries with Nick Foles scrambling 4 times for 26 yards. Both players added a touchdown with Chris Polk also adding one on the ground.
