Game Notes
Georgetown got no respect in the polls last year due to their scheduling, but dominated in their only nationally televised game, their bowl game against Rice. They booked better teams including UTEP, and will look to send a message early in the season.
Georgetown Wins If...Jeff Sanders and Darren Swift continue the chemistry they developed last year. Sanders doesn't get the compliments as a passer, and with the addition of Brian Jackson he'll look to show his arm more this year.
UTEP Wins If...They can get to Sanders and make him fumble. He has had issues with turnovers in the past, and they will need to force some to get the win.
Re: Coach Em' Up!: The Career of Rock Denby (NCAA 14 & Madden 25)
After Big Win, Hoya Coach Denby the Story
A statement is a statement, and Rock Denby's Georgetown Hoyas made a statement on national television against what was thought to be a game UTEP team. Georgetown put up 593 yards, 279 on the ground and 314 through the air in a dominating victory.
Darren Swift caught a school record 95 yard pass from Jeff Sanders to extend the lead to 21-3 before the half. Swift ended the game with 266 yards on six catches, breaking the school record he set a year ago.
Sanders didn't have to run as much, rushing 14 times for 107 yards including 2 touchdown runs. Sanders used his arm to perfection going 14 of 23 for 314 yards and two scores, with an interception. Sanders started the day 1 of 7 before going 13 of 16 for 301 yard to finish out the afternoon. Freshman Brian Jackson helped take the load off, rushing for 123 yards on 19 carries with his first career touchdown.
"Great game. We really got after it, and got it done." said Denby, "We executed and played like champions today."
In some recent polls, Denby was rated one of the top five hottest coaching prospects for the NFL. While Denby has three years left on his contract, and there have been no rumors, it's interesting to see a young coach get recognition for the accomplishments of his young program.
Jeff Sanders TRUCKED the defender to get into the endzone.
