Right? I was shocked we all went 4-0 in out of conference...We could legitimately all make a bowl game.

Game Notes
Both of these teams come in at 4-0; running over the competition in the out of conference portion of their seasons. Things take a drastic turn towards the difficult as they begin their BIG10 seasons with each other. Philip Nelson needs to cut down on the turnovers, 7 interceptions in 4 games won't cut it during BIG10 play.

Minnesota Wins If...They limit turnovers, and can make some big plays on defense or in the running game. The Gophers are going to need to force turnovers, and make Iowa beat them with the pass.

Iowa Wins If...They continue to force Philip Nelson to make mistakes. He is a young quarterback, and while he has shown moments of brilliance, he also has those head scratching moments each game.

Re: Maroon and Gold: A Minnesota Golden Gophers Dynasty

Gophers Fight Hard, but Hawkeyes Win Squeaker

With a minute and a half left, and down eight points to the visiting Hawkeyes, Philip Nelson and the Minnesota offense did not worry. Instead they came out and did what they needed to do, and that was move the ball down the field. Three plays and 75 yards later the Golden Gophers were in the end zone, and a two point conversion away from tying the game and potentially forcing overtime.

It was not meant to be. Philip Nelson would throw the slant to Isaac Fruechte, but it was knocked away, ending any chance of the comeback. "It was a tough game" said coach Koch after his first loss, "but we fought hard and nearly pulled it out. It gives us good confidence moving forward for the rest of the season."

Iowa controlled for almost the entire game, but Minnesota stayed within striking distance throughout, taking their only lead of the game late in the third quarter on a Chris Hawthorne field goal. That would be short lived, as Rudock would hit Tevaun Smith for a 59 yard touchdown, and a lead they would not surrender.

The task of bowl eligibility will get no easier next week, as Minnesota heads into the Big House to take on 4-0, #10 Michigan on Saturday afternoon. "It'll be a good test to see where we are." said Koch.

Jake Rudock did just enough to hand Minnesota their first loss, and keep their own undefeated season going.

Game Notes
Minnesota comes into the Big House for their biggest test of the young season off of their first loss, to take on #10 Michigan on Saturday afternoon. The Gophers will need to protect the ball and slow down the Michigan offense if they want to win back the Little Brown Jug. The Gophers struggled against Iowa in their loss a week ago, and will need a much better effort against Michigan.

Minnesota Wins If...They can make some big plays on both sides of the ball, and get pressure on Devin Gardner. If they can force Gardner to throw on the run, they could force turnovers.

Michigan Wins If...They force the Minnesota offense to be one dimensional, and continue to play their style of football.

Re: Maroon and Gold: A Minnesota Golden Gophers Dynasty

Minnesota Drops Heartbreaker in Final Seconds to Wolverines

All week it was said that Minnesota would need to make big plays in all aspects of the game if they wanted to have a chance to knockoff Michigan. They got a pick six, a kickoff return for a touchdown, and a big pass play that set up a field goal, but that was not enough as Michigan hit a 30 yard field goal with 7 seconds to play to top the Golden Gophers 24-23.

On Michigan's first possession Minnesota forced a fumble and turned it into points, and on the first play after the kickoff Devin Gardner found Minnesota defensive back Marquez Shabazz for a 27 yard interception return, and a quick 10-0 lead for the Gophers. After a 3 and out for Michigan, Minnesota would add another field goal, taking a 13-0 lead into the second quarter.

Michigan would finally score, but it would be Minnesota leading 16-7 at the half, with the ball first in the third quarter. It wouldn't take long for Marcus Jones to make his presence felt, taking the second half kickoff 103 yards for his third return touchdown of the season, and staking Minnesota to a 23-7 lead. It went all down hill from there.

Minnesota managed just 41 yards of offense in the second half, and despite a great defensive effort Devin Gardner and the Michigan offense proved to be just too much, rallying back to eventually take the lead with just seven seconds to play on a 30 yard field goal. Philip Nelson would heave it up for one last shot at the end zone, but it was knocked down, ending all hopes.

"It was a tight game." said Koch. "We fought hard. I can't say I'm not disappointed that we blew a 16 point lead in the second half against Michigan, but we had a good effort. It's tough dropping a game like that."

Marquez Shabazz made the big play early, but the Gophers weren't able to hold on.

You should start up another "The Life" series featuring the Gophers, Vikings, and Wild. Anyways, I'm following and I want to see how you build this team.
