Re: "The Buccaneer Way" - A Tampa Bay Buccaneers dynasty (M25 CFM)
NFL NEWSWIRE - END OF PRESEASON
Mr. August - After an undefeated preseason, Bill Belichick now has to hope the Patriots just keep racking up wins once the regular season opens up next week.
Early Momentum - The Cowboys finished up a perfect preseason by beating the Texans today. Now they will try to go 4-0 all over again to open up the regular season.
Robert Flores @RoFloEA: Patriots finish up the preseason undefeated. Will they come flying out of the chute once the regular season starts?
Ross Tucker @RossTuckerEA: Have a hard time believing the Cowboys will remember an undefeated preseason if the regular season goes poorly.

Glad you like it. The plan is that he helps the return game. Owusu is nothing special whilst I'm reluctant to use Doug Martin as a return specialist. Probably won't see many carries though, barring any injuries.

Despite a lackluster preseason that saw both the offense and defense struggle, the Bucs should fare just fine against what is likely to be one of the worst teams in the NFL in 2013. Between Josh Freeman, Doug Martin and Vincent Jackson on offense and Darrelle Revis, Dashon Goldson, Gerald McCoy and Lavonte David on defense, the Bucs will win this game—it's really just a question of by how much.

BUCS HOLD OFF IMPRESSIVE GENO SMITH TO BEAT JETS 34-20
ROOKIE QB SMITH'S 345 YARD GAME FAILS TO BEAT STRONG BUCCANEERS
East Rutherford, NJ -- New York Jets QB Geno Smith started his NFL career in impressive fashion with a solid showing in his debut but it wasn't enough, as the Jets fell to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34-20 at MetLife Stadium. Smith, out of West Virginia, threw for 345 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a solid showing.
The Jets got off to a terrific start as their defense held the Buccaneers to two consecutive 3-and-out's before opening up their account on the season as Smith found TE Kellen Winslow wide-open over the middle, and the former Buccaneer said "thank you very much" to his former team for absolutely blowing their coverage, as he took the ball 56 yards for the score.
Josh Freeman and the Tampa Bay offense could not get anything going in the 1st half, with quite obvious miscommunication between Freeman and his receivers as the 5th-year veteran consistently threw poorly to his receivers and when he threw a good pass, it was either a short-gain or a drop. That changed in the 2nd quarter however, as the Bucs put together a strong offensive drive that ended in Freeman finding WR Mike Williams who phenomenally made a one-handed grab for 12 yard touchdown reception to tie the game at 7.
The Jets were consistent on offense, as they picked on rookie CB Johnthan Banks who struggled mightily in his debut for Tampa, as he left his match ups open on a regular basis. But, it couldn't lead to a score. That was until safety Dawan Landry intercepted a wayward Freeman pass. New York then promptly went down the field where Smith found Jeremy Kerley for the 4 yard touchdown grab.
The Buccaneers responded well on their subsequent drive, as running back Doug Martin ran in for a 9 yard touchdown run. However, Banks' defensive incapability was holding Tampa Bay back as the Jets took the ball back to the redzone. They would not lie down, and that resistance to fall led to Banks stepping up big-time, intercepting a Smith pass intended for Santonio Holmes - redeeming himself in the eyes of many.
As everyone knows, you can't have a proper offensive shootout without the kickers getting involved. The 3rd quarter saw the kickers take center stage. Connor Barth of the Bucs took home the bragging rights over Nick Folk, as Barth kicked 2 field goals comparted to Folk's solitary kick.
The fourth quarter saw Tampa Bay take the game away from the Jets. Freeman found undrafted rookie TE Ryan Otten who had an impressive debut in the endzone for a 10 yard touchdown reception. Despite Freeman throwing a second pick to safety Landry, the game slipped further and further away from the Jets' reach. Folk kicked another field goal but a Geno Smith fumble (which caused a turnover on downs) allowed the Buccaneers to score again late in the quarter, as rookie running back Mike James powered through from 3 yards to record his first NFL touchdown.
There were various positive to take away from both teams. The Jets overcame a tumultuous offseason to take the Bucs to the limit in a game many will think they should of won. Tampa Bay can takeaway the performance of Josh Freeman despite his 2 picks, and the performances of their rookies. WR Ryan Swope led the team in receptions (7) ahead of fellow rookie TE Otten (4) as Swope had 75 yards receiving on his NFL debut.
Both sides must learn how to protect the ball. The Buccaneers turned the ball over twice whilst the Jets were lucky that they fell on Geno Smith's late fumble otherwise they would have had the same amount. Turnovers were an issue for Gang Green last season and they cannot afford for that to happen again.
The Buccaneers were impressive overall, holding the Jets to just 61 yards rushing despite their disappointing performance defending the pass. They recorded 2.5 sacks as well as forcing a fumble. Its a positive game to build-upon and Tampa Bay have a good enough team to mount an impressive play-off push.
Next Week, the Jets travel to New England to face the Patriots on Thursday Night Football whilst Tampa Bay also have a divisional clash as they host the New Orleans Saints in Tampa.
