Coach Willie Taggart Resigns, Takes USF Job

(Coach Taggart during his final WKU Press Conference)

December 7th, 2012

Long time Hilltopper, Willie Taggart, today announced his resignation after accepting the University of South Florida's job offer to become the next USF Bulls head football coach. The former Western Kentucky stand-out quarterback had nothing but love and respect for the program he was leaving;

"All good things must come to an end, or so they say. I hate leaving Western but for the sake of my professional coaching career, and my family's best interest, I have decided to take the USF job," said Taggart.

He went on to say that he will always bleed the Red and White and that he will always be a Hilltopper and watch the program fondly and that, "I'll root for Western as long as they are not playing the Bulls." he added jokingly before concluding the press conference.

Western Athletic Director, Todd Stewart, wished nothing but the best for Coach T and his family, saying, "Coach helped build this program from the ground up. He is leaving behind a team with a full cupboard and coming off it's first FBS bowl game appearance. It will be an attractive job for everyone. I hope Willie and his wife have a successful run at USF."

Stewart now will be turning his focus on finding then next head coach for the Hilltoppers. Instead of hiring a search firm, Stewart will be conducting the process entirely by himself. No official names have been announced or interviews set up, but sources within the Athletic Department have revealed a short list including; former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino, former NFL head coach & Hilltopper Romeo Crennel, former North Carolina head coach Butch Davis, and current Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops.

Re: King of the Hill: A Western Kentucky Story (NCAA 13)

I've got a post or two left detailing the coaching search and such but feel free to post if you wish. This is my first dynasty so please bear with me lol.

Also can someone recommend a good PS3 NCAA 13 roster for the 2014 season and some sliders?

I usually always do some kind of WKU dynasty on NCAA whether it be on OS Sports or my own. But I can't wait to see what you do with the Hilltoppers.

Yeah. I'm a Tennessee fan by heart but since Petrino has taken over I've been keeping up with them this year. Thankfully they gave us those 6 TOs or that game might have been a lot closer than I would have wanted haha.

Breaking: Petrino Next HC

December 10th, 2012

Western Kentucky has it's new head football coach and he comes in for the form of former Arkansas and Louisville coach, Bobby Petrino, he comes to the Hilltoppers after sitting out the 2012 college football season due to the recent motorcycle incident controversy. AD, Todd Stewart, conducted three days worth of talks and interviews with Petrino and decided he was the man for the job.

Mr. Stewart had this to say, "After sitting down and getting to know Bobby, I knew he was my guy. I loved his vision and plan for the future of the WKU football program. Is a grade A coach who has been successful at the very highest levels of college football. He will be the man to take Western Kentucky to the next level in our road to the top."

During the presser, Petrino mentioned that this was the best decision for he and his family. His kids live within the state and two go to the University of Louisville and his wife is from the state as well. He said, "It was like coming home," Petrino stated.

While Petrino is known for his passing game, he did mention the strength of WKU is its ground game and he will game plan to put his guys in the best position to win ball games. "If we can win throwing 40 times a game we'll do that, if we can win running 40 times, I'll do that as well. I just want to win."

Concluding the press conference, Petrino stated he will start conducting staff interviews tomorrow.
