Lexington, KY - Kent State (1-1) left Lexington with their offensive egos bruised on Saturday after falling 38-0 to Kentucky (1-1). The game was relatively close in the early going with the Wildcats ahead 3-0 in the waning moments of the first quarter. The Flashes defense was holding its own against a superior squad even if the offense was slow to find its footing. Yet, a poorly thrown pass by Keith led to an interception return for a touchdown at the end of the first quarter and the Wildcats never looked back.
The Flashes offense struggled all game with dropped passes, the O-line unable to create holes for Durham in the backfield, and little time for Keith to settle in and look downfield.
Quote:
"We need to go into our bye next week and take this time to catch our breath and work on fundamentals" ~ Coach Hazell
The Flashes are off next week and return to action in Week 4 at Buffalo.

Buffalo, NY - Kent State traveled to Buffalo for their MAC opener on Saturday and survived on a last second field goal for the 24-21 victory. It was far from pretty with Keith throwing three interceptions on the afternoon and the Flashes secondary getting beat on multiple occasions. Yet, the Flashes made key stops and controlled the time of possession and ground out the win.
The Flashes did not leave the game unscathed however, both SR WR Matt Hurdle and the offenses centerpiece SO HB Trayion Durham both suffered injuries in the contest. Hurdle is expected to miss at least 1-2 weeks with an abdominal strain and Durham is expected to be out the next 5-7 weeks with a strained back.
Quote:
These are major losses for our football team. Luckily, we had a couple guys step up today and make plays but Tray and Matt are going to be hard to replace for the near future. ~ HC Hazell
The Flashes (2-1) return home to Dix Stadium next Saturday to face Ball State (0-4) at 3:30pm in MAC play. The game will be televised regionally, check your local listings.

Kent, OH - For the second week in a row the Flashes were out-gained in terms of total offense when the final whistle blew. Yet, for the second week in a row the Flashes walked off the field victorious. A gritty 27-21 win in the friendly confines of Dix Stadium that really wasn't as close as the final score indicates with a late touchdown by Ball State in the waning moments.
Quote:
I thought our special teams and defense did a great job in the win. The blocked punt for the opening score really set the mood. Eric played a great and really came up big on some grabs. ~ HC Hazell
Kent State (3-1) will be traveling to Eastern Michigan (2-2) next Saturday at 3:30pm.

Ypsilanti, MI - An ugly showing on offense doomed the Flashes as they received their first MAC loss of the season at the hands of Eastern Michigan in a 43-21 drubbing. Kent State could not prolong drives on offense and had to send a worn out defensive unit back on the field time and time again. The Flashes managed to only convert 16% of their third down opportunities on the afternoon.
Quote:
We got our (expletive) kicked up front today. Our O-line needs to step up and play with some fire. Keith is getting killed out there and we can't continue like this. ~ HC Hazell
The Flashes (3-2) travel to Blaik Field next Saturday to face Army (2-3) at 12:00pm.
