Game Notes
There's not much to say about this game. Vanderbilt is coming off an impressive performance against formerly ranked Ole Miss, while Austin Peay was dismantled by another SEC foe in Tennessee. With their inability to get the ball moving, Vanderbilt should have no problem in stopping this subdivision team. Don't be surprised if Austin Peay manages to get a point on the board, as Vanderbilt is likely going to conserve their starters' health and energy for the big game against South Carolina next week.

Series Record: TIED at 0-0
Prediction: Austin Peay 3 - Vandy 38

Re: Anchor Down - Vanderbilt Commodores Dynasty [NCAA 14]

Vanderbilt Explodes in Second Half to Blow Out Austin Peay

Johnathan Krause receives a perfect pass from Carta-Samuels in the third for a touchdown.
NASHVILLE, Tennessee - No one was surprised by the score of this game. Most were likely surprised at Austin Peay only being down by two touchdowns at the end of the half. Both defenses had been playing terrific for the most part. Vanderbilt quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels managed to throw an interception on a poor pass early on in the game. That would be the lone turnover for the Commodores on the day, and it likely only affected how much Vanderbilt was going to win by. If there's anything that the Governors can pull from this game, it would have to be just remember how well they played in the first half of the game. Once Vanderbilt caught on to how they run their offense, everything started to go downhill quite quickly. As opposed to the time eating drives in the first half, Austin Peay found themselves unable to move the ball. Their quarterback was brought down a total of eight total times, as their line just could not handle the size of Vanderbilt's defensive unit. Besides, Sutin QB Andrew Spivey managed to make their worst decisions possble. On more than one occasion, he took off and tried to pick up some ground on his feet. While this had worked for the first half, Coach Franklin constantly put out a QB Spy. Completely removing any threat Spivey possessed.

In the second half, thanks to Austin Peay's defense breaking down and Carta-Samuels completing more throws, the Commodores quickly began to pull away. In the span of around four minutes, Vanderbilt managed to score 21 points to pull even further away. At this point, it was even more obvious that Vandy wasn't going to fall apart. With the team finally coming together, the points just kept coming in. The starters did not play a single second in the forth quarter. Even then, the Governors couldn't stop the second team. There was a bit of controversy when Vanderbilt scored late. Austin Peay's coach did not take the score very well and wasn't exactly fond that Vanderbilt continued to run the score up on them. Only one side is really at fault in allowing that score: Austin Peay's defense. Had they covered just a little better, no score would have ever happened. James Franklin doesn't want his players to quit. The fans don't want to see the players quit. No one wanted them to just stop playing due to such a large lead. If they couldn't stop the second team, there's not much Vanderbilt could do to avoid scoring.

True freshman Jordan Cunningham came up big in this game. He led all receivers with 6 receptions and 129 yards. The receiver from Florida also managed to grab two touchdowns from Carta-Samuels. There seemed to be no way of stopping him from getting open. After only being targeted three times in the Ole Miss game, this performance was a much needed improvement. Not only does Vanderbilt have two top senior receivers on their team, they have even more hope in the freshman. With some of the recruiting being done at Vanderbilt, the team will likely have an even more improved rushing and passing attack next year. Despite losing four starters at key positions, good recruits will likely fill in these spots very well. Carta-Samuels may be leaving next year, but Freshman Patton Robinette played well against Austin Peay's starters in the fourth quarter. He completely all but one pass for well over 100 yards. Even if Vanderbilt doesn't get a prized quarterback recruit, they seem to be in safe hands with Robinette likely being the starter next year.

After taking out Austin Peay, Vanderbilt will be playing another SEC opponent in South Carolina. With a much more intimidating defense line, the Commodores might suffer their first defeat the hands of the Gamecocks. Austin Peay will look to end a two game slide against Chattanooga next week. With two poor showings, Chattanooga is the obvious favorite in this game.

Austin Peay's quarterback Andrew Spivey finds himself in the air, after a huge hit by Caleb Azubike.

Chase Garnham leaps in front of a pass to intercept the ball.

Game Notes
Sitting at 2-0, Vanderbilt managed to surprise a few people with their win over Ole Miss. Compared to the Old Miss game, though, this one will be even more challenging. South Carolina is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Georgia. Thanks to their defensive play, they kept the game close. This one looks the be a very similar battle, especially since Vanderbilt's offense is not nearly as powerful as Georgia's. If the Gamecocks can get pressure and force a few bad throws, expect them to win this one. The Commodores's running game has been lacking all season. Blockers unable to open holes. Everything bad that could happen has. Therefore, Vanderbilt needs this one to prove themselves as potential threat to Alabama and the rest of the SEC. Don't expect this one to be easy though, as Vanderbilt leaves Nashville for the first time all season.

Series Record: South Carolina LEADS 18-4
Current Streak: South Carolina - W4
Prediction: Vanderbilt 27 - South Carolina 24
