Hedges For Real. Blue Devils Are Too - Now 3-0

Senior Jackson Hedges starting to garner national attention with his breakout senior season. He debuts in the ESPNU 300 at #274, and the 28th best QB in the country--just 3 weeks in to playing football--IN HIS LIFE.

It was late Thursday afternoon and Coach Henderson called me into his office…

CH: Josh, how are you handing all of this bud?

Me: Ok, coach--trying to stay grounded. We haven't arrived yet--I, haven't arrived yet.

CH: I like your attitude. Not to add any pressure to you, but when I came in this morning, I had 6 different voicemails from scouts at some D1 schools that will be in attendance tomorrow night to watch you play. They're interested in you--a lot.

JH: Wow really? Who, coach?

CH: Scouts from Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia Tech, Troy, UCF, and USF will all be at the game. Due to recruiting rules, they can't say much more than hello to you, but they wanted you to know that they'll be there to see you.

JH: Hard to believe this coach--but I'll be ready. No pressure. We just have to execute--and I'm going to make sure that we all do.

CH: See you tomorrow--get some rest son.

Pregame, vs Brookstone Cougars, pre game meeting with the team--no coaches:

We're 3-0 guys. I know I'm the new guy around here--but you guys have treated me like a king, and I vow to give you guys everything I have. I will leave NOTHING on the field. You guys have taken me in like family, and I can't thank you enough. We've got 6 more games before the playoffs--and the first one is right now.

We haven't accomplished anything. We haven't arrived. I, haven't arrived. We've got our toughest games ahead of us--and our goal is the playoffs, and the state championship. I think you all know that that is unheard of at this school. We're a baseball school. Well that changes now. It's time to write our own story.

Hedges stands in to deliver his first of 6 TD's vs Brookstone

Senior Jackson Hedges had his best game of the season Friday night vs Brookstone, throwing for 459 yards and a season high 6 touchdowns. There were a handful of collegiate assistant coaches on hand watching the out of nowhere Hedges.

Me: Uh, yessir--who's this?

Unknown #: Hey Jackson, this is coach Nick Saban from the University of Alabama.

Me: You're kidding me?

NS: Haha, no son, it's me. I wanted you to know we've been paying some serious attention to you and are really impressed with what you've done in such a short time.

Me: Wow, thanks coach--that really means a lot coming from someone like you.

NS: Listen, I know you get 5 official visits this year, and I'd love to have you come up to Tuscaloosa, and let me and the guys show you around.

Me: Coach, that's an honor but uh, you are familiar with my dad right?

NS: Haha, oh yes--but we feel as though we may have some different things to offer you here at Alabama. Listen, think it over and get back with me, let me give you my number…

I came in from running some sprints and lifting some weights with my younger brother and saw the pile of mail on the counter. I assumed it was all for dad--as it usually was, but was surprised when my mom told me that it was all for me.

(45 minutes later)

Me: Well I'm finally done with this mail..

Mom: And?

Me: And…I've been offered a football scholarship from Central Florida, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest. Also the coaches from Alabama, Auburn (duh), Oregon, and Georgia want me to come for an official visit.

Mom: Well, would you consider playing college football? On a major level, like some of those schools? Is that what you want to do?

Me: Well I really don't know--I've never thought about it because it's never been an option. I guess I'll call dad and ask his advice…
