This Is pretty sweet! Can't wait to see where my man Lockerty goes. Thought I'd give you an edge by making him from Las Begas..but I guess he thought otherwise haha.

Good first win. UNLV is always the team in the back of my head to do a dynasty with. Following.

Haha well Lockerty was technically from my Washington dynasty, now it's just a coincidence...........but, he didn't like UNLV...like at all

my guess is he ends up at Nevada

Looking good so far, tough start to the season but at least you were able to pick up your first win. Definitely will be following, I always like trying to bring lower level teams up the ranks of the nation.

Game Notes
-------------------
Coach Simon is riding high coming off of his first collegiate win as a head coach and it was an impressive win at that, with quarterback Caleb Herring being magnificent and the defense as a whole stepping up. The Rebels will continue their home stand as this week they will host the Idaho Vandals. This will be an important week for UNLV as they will also be hosting their first 4 recruits under Simon's reigns.

For UNLV to be successful it'll most likely come down to Caleb Herring once again to lead his team. This could very well be a test for Herring, as Nick Sherry will come back from injury next week and he could put up a legitimate argument that Simon should continue with him if he does well once again.

For Idaho the key to victory will come down to Chad Chalich and the receiving core. If they can find a way to slash the Rebels secondary they should be able to come out victorious. The Rebels have shown that they'll let you run the ball for a good amount, but will ultimately stop it before reaching the end zone and force you to throw or simply take a field goal.

Ultimately it might just be a big play from Tim Cornett or James Baker and either sides run game that might jump start one side and give them the greatest edge on this day. It's simply a matter of who's ready to step up for his team.

Recruiting notes
-----------------------
UNLV will have their first four recruits of the year in Las Vegas for this game. The recruits are fullback Rodney Davis (Ran Palos Verdes, CA), free safety Eric Phillips (DeSoto, TX), cornerback Bobby Stevenson (Concord, CA), and wide receiver Frank Bailey (Pittsburg, CA)

If you lose to Idaho, I will probably have to stop following. It would be just to embarrasing for me to even consider calling you a OSF friend.

Re: A Fresh Start: UNLV's Search for Success (NCAA '14)

Phillips Does It Again, Helps Cary Team To Victory

LAS VEGAS, NV - Caleb Herring only had 7 total passes in the game and the impact of that was felt early on in the game. The reason Herring only had 7 passes in the game wasn't because the run game was absolutely dominating the Idaho defense, but rather because on that 7th pass Herring was hit as he threw and was intercepted. The interception however, was the least of UNLV's worries as when Herring finally got up off the field, he was heavily favoring his throwing arm. It wasn't immediately known what was wrong, but x-rays following the game showed that Herring in fact suffered from a broken elbow and will be out the rest of the season.

Following the interception, Chad Chalick went to work for Idaho and worked his team down the field, mixing in some handoffs to James Baker. Baker would be the one to punch in the games first and first quarters only score as he bounced off a defender and made it the 11 yards to the end zone. Idaho would continue to dominate UNLV's offense, stopping the run completely. They'd get the ball back and again go to work behind the passing of Chalick. Dezmon Epps and James Baker would be the main targets on the drive as they worked down field and once again it would be Baker, this time through the air, for the score putting Idaho up 14.

In some kind of weird coincidence though, Jake Phillips would be the man of the day that would bring his team back into the game. After going down by 14, UNLV would continue to work Cornett and he would get two straight handoffs in which he would punch out 20+ yards. On the next play, Troy Hawthorne would roll out on a play action pass and find a wide open Jake Phillips streaking to the sideline and as the connected Phillips was gone, finally being reached by an Idaho defensive player as he was crossing the end zone for a 46 yard play. Following that UNLV was juiced and their defense would finally come up with a stop of Idaho's passing attack. They would then go to work, continuing to work Tim Cornett who was having a great day. Cornett would cap off the drive with a 1 yard run. Idaho would be able to finish out the half with a field goal to go ahead by 3.

Despite being down by 3 coming out into the second half, there was just a sense that it was going to be UNLV's day and that feeling was correct as the Rebels would run it down Idaho's throat and put up 17 straight unanswered points behind a Nolan Kohorst field goal, a second Tim Cornett touchdown run, and a second Jake Phillips touchdown catch. Chad Chalich would once again work his team down field on a nice passing attack and come back within a touchdown, but Troy Hawthorne played well above his experience matching Chalich with another touchdown of his own, once again to the big man on the day Jake Phillips. That would be it for the Vandals as UNLV would successfully run down the clock and Nolan Kohorst would kick a field goal with 1 second left.
