Resilience was the watchword for the Giants in their 24-21 win over Tampa Bay. They fought back from a devastatingly superior connection between Mike Glennon and Dallas Clark. They fought back from David Wilson's fumbles. But the entire game, seemingly, Tampa Bay was the team coming back.
Andre Brown has been cut from so many teams that every day he is excited to be a key member of the New York Giants. He had a two-yard carry for a TD in the first quarter, a second chance effort after he was rebuffed the first time. This embodies his career: he's getting his second stint with the Giants after being cut from nearly every division in the NFL. Brown took over after David Wilson fumbled and Brown ended with 41 yards on 9 carries.
Victor Cruz may be the best-known UDFA in the NFL. He emerged in Week 3 of 2011 with a huge game against the Philadephia Eagles. He had another great game against the Buccaneers, with five catches for a game-high 136 yards. One of those was a spectacular catch after a bobble, reminiscent of Cruz's one-hander in Philadelphia. If he can keep up his spectacular play, this may be his best season yet.
Josh Brown kicked the game-winning FG with 0:05 to play for the second straight game, and he is now 4/5 on FGs this year. Eli Manning led the G-men on a game-winning drive after Doug Martin had punched in a 1-yd TD to even the game at 21. Will Hill, recipient of a 4-game suspension last year, had a pick-six late in the first half.
This is Giants football: resilience. They were 6-7 the year they won their 2nd (4th) Super Bowl, and they won their last 3 games of the regular season. This year they may be easily into the playoffs, but resilience must be a large part of the team against seemingly superior opponents.
