Player of the Game:

San Diego State quarterback Adam Dingwell was about as close to perfect as a quarterback could ever hope to be. Dingwell threw 5 touchdown passes, and was not picked off. This will be a game for the Junior to remember, as it ended in thrilling fashion.

Postgame Notes:

It was almost too perfect, Crawley appeared open in the endzone for what would've been San Jose States 2 point conversion in the 3rd overtime. However, a defense that took most of the night off decided to show up when it mattered most. "I saw Fales staring down Crawley and made a break. Luckily I was able to get my hands in there and knock it down" MLB J. Fely told reporters in the visitors locker room. "I thought we had it. Crawley seemed open. I'm sure of it. Fely came out of nowhere to swat it down" a dejected Fales told reporters.

Recruiting News:

SS Isaiah Davis (***) of Prichard, Alabama has committed to the San Jose State Spartans. Davis, Alabama's 2nd best strong safety is a fearless tackler, often times sacrificing his body to make the play. Davis racked up 123 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles aswell as 10 tackles for loss. Davis was the defensive captain for the Spanish Fort HS Toros who were undefeated on the season (15-0). Davis, not known for his top end spend (4.60 40 yard) more than makes up for it with a quick first step and an ability to read the play.

Re: Making a Name: The Patrick Crowley Dynasty

Week 12, 2013

(6-3, 4-2 MWC)@(5-5, 3-3 MWC)

Injury Notes:

- LG Ryan Jones cleared to resume play after breaking fibula during week 4.
- RT Amar Pal went down during a team practice on Wednesday. Pal was clutching his back and struggled to walk off the injury. Doctors have shut down Pal for 4-5 weeks fearing further aggrivation to his back. Diagnosis: Strained back.
- FS Forrest Hightower has had splint removed from broken thumb. Hightower did not feel comfortable catching passes during drills, it is highly unlikely that Hightower will dress against the Wolf Pack.

Suspensions:

- FB T. Zizzo - Out for Season

Team News:

- Spartans are seeking a big win after a heartbreaking 53-51 loss to San Diego State. Spartans failed to convert a 2 pt conversion in the 3rd overtime frame and the Aztecs walked away with victory.
- Wolf Pack fans are struggling to find reasons to goto games. Nevada started the season hot, going 5-1 with their only loss against #18 ranked UCLA. Since however, the Pack have lost 4 in a row and find their record at 5-5. "Struggling teams are sometimes the hardest to gameplan for. A team like Nevada really has nothing to lose, and could throw some interesting play calls our way. We cant let their recent struggles cloud our judgement. We need to go out there, take care of business and play Spartan football." OC Patrick Crowley told reporters on Friday.

Pregame Notes:

-Nevada has losses to #18 UCLA, Boise State, UNLV, Fresno and Colorado State.
- Wolf Pack have wins against UC Davis, Hawaii, Air Force, San Diego State and Northwestern.
-Nevada on a current 4 game losing skid.

Game Notes
Kick off: Saturday, Nov 16 @ 7:15 PM

Forecast: 44 Degrees, Light Wind (4 MPH), Partly Cloudy

Attendance: 8,645

Televised: Regionally

Players to Watch:

Nevada:

QB Cody Fajardo (Jr.) has been shakey to say the least this season. Going 156/299 for a completion % just over 50% has alarmed HC Brian Polian. Fajardo has also ran into trouble throwing costly interceptions. Fajardo has 9 interceptions to just 12 touchdowns.

Redshirt Junior Kyle Roberts has had a busy season thus far. On a weak offensive line Roberts has often been matched up against other teams best. Roberts has struggled to protect Fajardo this year, but watch for him to step up and make an impact.

DT Jack Reynoso is the leader of the defense on the Wolfpack. Reynoso, like much of the Wolfpack team has had an off season. Reynoso's numbers have dipped from 2012. Reynoso has 31 tackles, 1 sack and 1 forced fumble.

San Jose State:

QB David Fales is coming off a statistically impressive, yet disappointing game, Fales will look to build upon last week. Against San Diego Fales threw 4 touchdowns to no interceptions. Look for more of the same against a weak Nevada defense.

WR Noel Grigsby is coming off his best game with the Spartans to date. Grigsby tied a Spartans team record by hauling in 3 touchdowns.

MLB Keith Smith has had a strong season to date. The leader of a young Spartans defense, Smith has backed his rank of defensive captain with solid stats. On the year Smith has 59 tackles, 6 for loss, 2 sacks, 1 interception and 1 forced fumble.

Game Notes:

- WR Aaron Bradley (RS Jr.) had 2 kick returns for 120 yards. Bradley busted the Spartans coverage team and returned a kick 99 yards for a touchdown.

Game Injury Report:

- WR Aaron Bradley (Nevada) left the game after a hard hit during a kick return. Diagnosis: Broken ribs
- HB Don Jackson (Nevada) left the game during the first quarter. Diagnosis: Bruised knee (2 weeks)
- RG Doug Blacksill (SJST) left the game in the 3rd quarter after attempting to stuff a Nevada pass rush. Diagnosis: Mild concussion. Blacksill is probable for Week 13.
- HB Jason Simpson (SJST) reaggrivated a back injury sustained earlier in the season. Simpson missed 2 quarters before returning to the game.

Player of the Game:

HB Jarrod Lawson (RS Fr.) needed to step up in the absence of Simpson who went down earlier in the game with a back injury. Lawson did just that, rushing the ball 10 times for 41 yards and finding the endzone twice.

Recruiting:

WR Terrence Lane (***) of Paine Field, WA has committed to the Spartans. Lane, a possession receiver is best known for his abilities as a return man. Lane had 338 yards on 10 kick returns, including 2 touchdowns. In 10 games for the Brewster HS Bears who had a disappointing 4-6 season, Lane had 47 receptions, 986 yards and 11 touchdowns. One of Lane's weaknesses is his slow reaction time. Dispite a fast top end speed, Lane's reaction time issues have affected his 40 time (4.52).

Top 5 Recruiting Classes:

#1 Oklahoma (4 - 5*, 5 - 4*, 7 - 3*)

"Oklahoma has pulled in a very strong class before the season has ended. Reporters wonder what more than can do before 2013 comes to a close."

Key Recruits:

WR Chaz Grant, 6'5", 203 lbs (Sandusky, Ohio)(*****)(Kenton HS Wildcats 13-1): The number 1 ranked receiver in the nation, Grant put together a tremendous Senior season. Grant has many athletic gifts, including a 4.44 40 time, great hands and a strong football IQ that allows him to choose smart routes. On the season, Grant had 158 receptions for 2342 yards to go with 22 touchdowns. Grant averaged 167 yards per game. QB Ian Johnson (UNC Signee) a teammate of Grant had this to say "He was amazing this year, I cant recall a night where he dropped more than a pass".

WR Julius Clark, 6'3, 200 lbs (Garland, Texas)(*****)(Midland Christian Mustangs 14-0): Ranked #3 Nationally, Clark put together a solid season with the Mustangs, helping them win a conference title. Although quieter, and less flashy than fellow signee Grant, Clark made many highlight reel catches during his 3 years with the Mustangs. Clark, the stronger of the two, ran a 4.54 40, but is best known for his big time catches and vicegrip hands.

HB Clint Herring, 5'11", 198 lbs (Los Angeles, California)(*****)(Mendota HS Aztecs 11-2): Nobody likes hearing the collision of two bodies at high speeds more than Herring. "It's a rush, I'd rather fight for more yards, or run right through someone then to step out of bounds. That's just giving up in my books". Herring devastated many would be tacklers in the West Sierra League with bone jarring hits. Herring ran a 4.46 40, to go along with 390 lb bench, and 365 lb squat. Herring had a staggering 51 touchdowns along with 3460 yards on 359 touches.

#2 North Carolina (1 - 5*, 7 - 4*, 5 - 3*, 1 - 2*, 1 - 1*)

"The Tarheels are garnering National attention by quietly putting together a big recruiting class"

HB Lance Moore, 6'0", 200 lbs (Schaumburg, Illinois)(*****)(Glenbard North Panthers 9-2): Moore had a monster season, rushing the ball an incredible 348 times in 11 games for 3171 yards (288.3 per game) and 38 touchdowns. Moore is about as elusive as a running back can be that weighs 200 lbs. Moore ran a 4.44 40. One area Moore needs to improve to take his game to the next level is in receiving, often unable to find the ball at the end of his route.

QB Ian Johnson, 6'5", 239 lbs (Painesville, Ohio)(****)(Kenton HS Wildcats, 13-1): Nobody benefitted more than Johnson from having Chaz Grant on his team. Johnson, a scrambler by nature found success early and often throwing the ball to Grant. Grant was 440/665, for 5920 yards to go with 65 TDs and 16 interceptions. "I look forwards to demonstrating some of my athletic abilities at the next level, coaches here just wanted me to throw the ball up and have Grant go get it. Not that I'm complaining, it really allowed me to demonstrate my arm strength".

FS Josh Goins, 6'0", 220 lbs (Collegedale, Tennessee)(****)(Giles County Bobcats, 12-3): Goins is a big body in the secondary; however, with his size also comes speed (4.48 40 time). Goins, a sure tackler had 75 tackles (55 solo), 9 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles and 17 passes defended on the season. Goins struggles in some defensive schemes, but often times makes up for any missteps with his quick speed and excellent tackling abilities.

#3 Ohio State (7 - 4*, 8 - 3*)

"With the recruiting year far from over, Ohio State has plenty more tricks up their sleeves."

CB Alan Fountain, 6'1", 198 lbs (Bucyrus, Ohio)(****)(Bishop Hartley Hawks, 13-2): Don't blink, you might miss something. This has been Fountain's trademark for the season. Fountain has blazing speed (4.26 40 time) that the Hawks used to help them on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Fountain had 48 tackles (33 solo), 9 interceptions, 4 passes defended and a fumble recovery returned 74 yards for a touchdown. Although not often used as a WR due to his questionable hands, Fountain reeled in 16 catches for 312 yards and 4 TDs.

RG Gary Elliot, 6'4", 272 lbs (Brook Park, Ohio)(****)(Brookfield Warriors, 8-3): Elliot is a fierce competitor, with a never say die attitude towards football. Often found pumping iron in the school gym, Elliot is always thinking about football, and more importantly protecting the quarterback. Elliot had impressive physical results, 490 lb bench and a 645 lb squat.

TE John Williams, 6'5", 244 lbs (Barberton, Ohio)(****)(Mount Healthy Fighting Owls, 12-2): Williams has been brought in by Ohio State to help improve their running game. Williams is a throwback to the Tightend's of old. Tony Gonzalez he is not; however, he is an asset any team would love to have. Great at holding blocks, and blocking downfield watch for Williams to make an early impact for the Buckeyes.

#4 Oregon (9 - 4*, 1 - 3*)

"We may not have the most, but we've got some of the best and most athletic"

MLB Blake Washington, 5'10", 221 lbs (St. Helens, Oregon)(****)(Oakland Oakers, 9-3): Washington has an incredibly quick first step, which helps him shed blocks, or avoid blocks entirely; thanks to his speed and athleticism, Washington led Oregon prep football with 16 sacks in 12 games. Washington had 105 tackles (55 solo), 4 forced fumbles, 8 tackles for loss and an interception. Oakers coaching staff also used Washington on the offensive side of the ball thanks as a Tight End. Washington had 22 receptions for 404 yards and 7 touchdowns. "Nobody wanted to tackle him when he caught the ball, I don't know if they were scared he was too big, or if they were worried about what he'd do to their teammates when their offense had the ball" said Oakers head coach Ben Lane. Washington ran a 4.66 40, benched 425 and squated 570.

C Robbie Mitchell, 6'3", 296 lbs (Catalina, Arizona)(****)(Catalina Foothills Falcons, 8-3): Oregon known for their fast paced and quick offense, needed an athletic line to hold blocks up field. They found their man in Robbie Mitchell, the 2nd fastest (4.74 40 time) center in the Nation. Mithcell, a blend of speed and raw power (top squat in class with 640 lbs.) is an excellent run blocker. Mitchell grew up wanting to play in a power conference, and has accomplished just that.

DE Nate Young, 6'4", 243 lbs (Irvine, California)(****)(Centennial Apaches, 1-9): Young was easy to spot by scouts, a man among boys on an undersized Centennial team. The Apaches offense got pushed around, which didnt much matter to scouts who came for one reason, to watch Young dominate offensive lines. Young had a California prep league leading 26 sacks in just 10 games. In addition, Young had 26 QB hurries, 129 tackles (95 solo) and 9 forced fumbles. After one game, in which Young sacked Lawndale's QB Chris Murray 5 times, Young shouted "Ain't nothin' but childs play" in reference to Lawndale's weak offensive line. Young was only interested in playing for a championship contending school, "It was hard enough playing a full year for the Apaches, half the guys didn't care, I'm surprised I stayed motivated. Can't wait to play on a team that has a shot every year" Young told an Oregon reporter. Young ran a 4.64 40, benched 360 and squated 545.

Penn State (7 - 4*, 5 - 3*, 1 - 2*)

"Rebuild continues in Penn State, strong class aims to speed up the process"

CB Tariq Callahan, 6'0", 180 lbs (Piscataway, New Jersey)(****)(Paulsboro Red Raiders, 7-3): Callahan played both HB and DB for the Red Raiders. Callahan put up impressive stats as a rusher: 149 carries, 1249 yards and 17 touchdowns. However, Penn State recruited Callahan moreso for his ability as an excellent coverage corner. Callahan had 54 tackles (34 solo), 8 interceptions, 12 passes defended and 2 forced fumbles. One area of concern for scouts was in Callahan's ability to tackle. Callahan has a habit of attempting weak arm tackles; watch for him to work on this in the offseason if he wants to be a mainstay on the Nittany Lions. Callahan had a 4.36 40 to go with a 275 lb bench, and 275 lb squat.

T Emmanuel Holmes, 6'6", 291 lbs (East Grand Rapids, Michigan)(****)(Christian HS Eagles, 8-3, #8 in Michigan): Holmes is an incredibly strong, big bodied tackle. There is no real hole in Holmes' game, a solid run and pass blocker, and has the ability to get up field on swing plays. Holmes looks to make an impact in Penn State from day one. "I want to get out there and show the coaching staff what I'm made of. I feel like I'm ready to contribute at the collegiate level, and anyone who disagrees hasnt watched me play. I'm here to help build Penn State back up". The Eagles QB, Tony Burt had a succesful year thanks in large to Holmes, "He is a great competitor, he never gives up. He was the first one to practice, and the last to leave, he's got a great work ethic", Burt told a Penn State reporter.

WR Andrew Anderson, 6'0", 208 lbs (Horsham, Pennsylvania)(****)(Wellsboro Hornets, 10-1): Anderson won't blow you away with quick speed, nor will he wow you with big time catches; however, Anderson does the little things right, always. Anderson doesnt drop many passes, doesnt fumble many balls and he doesnt run bad routes. All and all Anderson's little plays add up in a big way. Expect Anderson to be a dependable receiver for the Nittany Lions. On the season, Anderson had 45 catches, 1126 yards and 17 touchdowns. Anderson didnt turn the ball over once in his senior season with the Hornets. Anderson also contributed to a solid special teams effort by the Hornets, Anderson had 227 kick return yards, and 269 punt return yards. Anderson ran the 40 in 4.54, benched 250 lbs and squated 285 lbs.

Week 13, 2013

Pregame

(4-5) @(7-3)

Injury Notes:

- LE Travis Raciti (RS Jr.) will not dress for the game against Navy. Raciti is suffering from flu like symptoms and is expected to miss one week.
- DT Anthony Larceval (RS Sr.) suffered a sprained ankle during a team practice. Larceval a key contributor on the Spartans defense will be tough to replace. Larceval is expected to be sidelined 2-3 weeks.

Suspension(s):

"Why are we under the NCAA microscope? Leave the Spartans alone!" - Angry Fan

- WR Kyle Nunn (Sr.) has been suspended 2 games for violating NCAA rules. The NCAA did not make the reasons behind Nunn's suspension public. "It hurts, I feel like I let my teammates down. I'm a senior, I don't have much ball left in me. Wish it hadnt gone down like this" Nunn told San Jose reporters.

Team News:

- Spartans struggle with lack of depth on the defensive line after suffering injuries to 2 key contributors. Redshirt Freshman Niko Kittrell will get the start at left end with the injury to Travis Raciti. Nate Falo (RS So.) and Adrian Blake (Fr.) are expected to see a lot of playing time with the injury to Larceval. WR Tim Crawley (RS Fr.) will take Nunn's roster spot while he serves his 2 game NCAA Suspension.
- "It's no secret, we expect Navy to run the ball all day. We've game planned all week and hopefully we can limit their success" DC Kenwick Thompson told reporters.
- Navy has struggled to find success this season, with losses to Indiana, Delaware, Western Kentucky, Pittsburgh and Bowling Green. Navy hopes to continue a 2 game winning streak (Hawaii, South Alabama).

Navy

MLB Cody Peterson (Sr. All-American) is the clear captain on the Navy defense, Peterson hasnt lived up to the hype, much like his teammates on the defensive side of the ball. With just 42 tackles (15 solo), 4 for loss and 1 sack Peterson needs to step it up if Navy wants to improve upon their season.

LG Bradyn Heap (Jr.) needs to have a big game if Navy wants to come out victorious. A run heavy offense leans on the offensive lines ability to block, which is easier said than done. Navy's line has been plagued by injuries, yet Heap has remained healthy. Heap needs to do his best to help establish the run early.

HB Darius Staten (Sr.) is the featureback in the Navy offense. Staten has put together a solid season thus far, with 977 rushing yards on 167 attempts. Staten has struggled to punch the ball into the endzone, scoring only 7 TDs on the season.

San Jose State:

QB David Fales (Sr.) will look to pick apart a weak Navy defense. Fales has 24 TDs to 11 Ints on the season. "My college career is wrapping up, I need to make some memories. It's been a great season but I'm not finished yet."

WR Tim Crawley (RS Fr.) will be seeing a lot more action than he is used to after the suspension of teammate Kyle Nunn. On the season Crawley has just 12 receptions for 204 yards to go with 4 touchdowns. Watch for Crawley to have an impact in how this game plays out.

TE Billy Freeman (RS Fr.) is coming off another 100+ receiving yard game. That makes it 6 games with 100+ receiving yards, one shudders to imagine what could've been if Freeman hadnt have missed 2 games due to suspension. Look for him to attempt to have another 100+ yard game.

Postgame Injuries:

- WR Daniel Bradbury (RS So.) of the Spartans was limping on the sidelines for much of the game. Bradbury saw limited action after hauling in a Fales pass for 11 yards. Diagnosis: Bradbury strained his hamstring and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.
- RG Nathaniel Otto (So.) whom had been filling in for the injured Zuzek left the game in the 3rd quarter. Diagnosis: Otto is expected to miss 2 weeks with back spasms.

Postgame Notes:

- Offensive Coordinator Patrick Crowley came under fire by San Jose reporters during the post game press conference. Reporters demanded answers as to why the Spartans called back to back running plays on two seperate 3rd and 4th down conversions. "Simpson had been having a solid game. It was 4th and short, we played the odds and unfortunately for us we got stopped on two key fourth down conversions. Our offensive line got out played by the Navy's defensive line, it's simple as that. Navy was the better team today" Crowley told reporters. Let's hope fans in San Jose can move past this crushing loss and forgive Crowley for his questionable play calling.
- The Spartans offense started the game off hot, scoring all 17 points in the first half; however, they were silenced by Navy's defense in the 2nd half, as Fales was picked off twice. "I made throws into tight coverage that I probably should've just thrown out of bounds. I'm going to watch the tape on Monday and dissect my game. I cant play like this next week against Fresno, that's for sure" Fales told reporters.

Player of the Game:

CB Parrish Gaines (Jr.) of Navy picked off David Fales with 1:26 left in the 4th quarter, sealing victory for the Midshipmen. Fales had been leading the Spartans on a promising drive before any hopes of a comeback were dashed by Gaines. On the season Gaines has 3 interceptions, and 10 passes defended.

Recruiting:

LG George Salyer, 6'3", 273 lbs (***) has committed to the San Jose State Spartans. Salyer known for his ability to stop the pass rush played for the La Costa Canyon Mavericks (7-4). Salyer has a quick first step which helps him defend against speedy defensive ends. Salyer needs to improve in the weight room if he wants to make a lasting impact on the Spartans. Salyer ran a 4.98 40, benched 350 and squatted 570 lbs.

Suspensions:

- WR Kyle Nunn has 1 game remaining on his NCAA suspension.
- FB Tony Zizzo remains suspended for the entire 2013 season.

Team News:

- Spartan Stadium is expected to sell out for the rivalry grudge match against Fresno State. "Spartan's better come ready out to play. They owe me after I had to sit through that stinker against Navy. Afterall, THIS IS SPARTA!" a San Jose State fan was quoted saying. Excitement has filled the air all week around campus leading up this game, as San Jose State hopes to topple Fresno from the polls.
- "They can be beaten. San Diego State showed us all that. We will go out there and play hard, we've watched a lot of tape and put together a solid gameplan. Now it's up for those boys to go out there and execute it" Patrick Crowley told reporters.
- Fresno State has just one loss to San Diego State (21-31). Fresno has big wins against Georgia and Boise State, which helped them climb the polls.

The Matchup:

Game Notes
Kickoff: Sat, Nov 30, 10:15 PM (Eastern)

Forecast: 58 degrees, slight wind, clear skies.

Attendance: 28,748

Televised: Regionally

Players to Watch:

Fresno State:

QB Derek Carr (RS Sr.) has been having an excellent season. Carr has thrown 30 touchdowns to just 6 interceptions. Look for him to pick apart a weak San Jose secondary.

LT Austin Wentworth (RS Sr.) has been coined the nickname 'Ginger Hammer' by his teammates due to his ferocious attitude at game time, and his bright orange hair. Wentworth has provided Carr with excellent protection for the 2013 season. Look for more of the same as Wentworth stacks up against an undersized Spartans defensive line.

CB LJ Jones (RS Sr.) has played well in the Bulldogs secondary. Jones has 17 passes defended, 1 interception and 2 forced fumbles. Fales will have to have a great game and limit his mistakes if he doesnt want to be picked off by Jones.

San Jose State:

QB David Fales (RS Sr.) is coming off a game he'd like to forget against Navy. Fales looks to bounce back after throwing 3 picks against Navy, Fales wont have an easy path against a tough Fresno secondary.

TE Billy Freeman (RS Fr.) fell just 10 yards shy of having over 100 receiving yards for the 7th game of the season. Freeman has been Fales safety blanket this season. If Fresno doubles up on Grigsby watch for Freeman to rack up a lot of yardage again.

MLB Keith Smith (Sr.) needs to rally the defense and follow the gameplan. Carr has torn up the conference thus far, and if the Spartans want to stand a chance, Smith needs to have a big game.
