Return to Glory Nebraska Cornhuskers NCAA 14 Dynasty
The Nebraska Cornhuskers are often considered one of the traditional powerhouses of NCAA football. Their pride and tradition is among the top of the nation, and the state of Nebraska has long been considered a "football-first" state. The program has a total of 5 National Championships and 46 Conference titles. However, the Cornhuskers have not won a National Championship since 1997.
Enter new head coach Wesley Darrellson. Darrellson's approach is very similar to the old school powerhouse Husker teams of the '90s. Former Head Coach Bo Pelini was let go after an audio file of a fed-up Pelini insulted the fanbase.
This season's Cornhuskers are a young group, especially on defense. However, starting quarterback Taylor Martinez is regarded as one of the best mobile QBs in the Nation. Though his passing mechanics are still developing, the senior QB is no doubt the leader of the offense. Sidekick Ameer Abdullah is one of the top running backs in the NCAA, and wide receiver Kenny Bell is simply a stud.
Defensively, Randy Gregory is looks poised to have a breakout year, and the cornerback duo of Ciante Evans and Stanley Jean-Baptiste is a matchup nightmare for offenses. Despite the obviously inexperience, this defense is a talented group.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers rolled in their season opener today against the Wyoming Cowboys, winning 52 to 31. The Huskers ran for a total of 350 yards on the ground, along with 6 rushing touchdowns as well.
New head coach Wesley Darrellson picked up his first win as a collegiate head coach. His thoughts on the game:
"We just went out there and executed our game plan. We wanted to run the ball up and down the field, and that's exactly what we did. You have to hand it to our big guys up front, as well as Ameer, Taylor, and Imani. Everyone did a tremendous job today."
Nebraska was unstoppable against Southern Mississippi today, as they ran for 364 yards on the ground and threw for 194. The Husker offense just ran rampant on the Eagles. Junior RB Ameer Abdullah ran for 158 and 2 touchdowns, while freshman Terrell Newby had 52 on the ground. Imani Cross added 2 touchdowns as well, and quarterbacks Taylor Martinez and Tommy Armstrong Jr. combined for 109 rushing yards and 3 TDs.
Defensively, the Blackshirts forced 3 interceptions against USM QB Allan Bridgford. They also sacked Bridgford 4 times.
The Huskers are now 2-0 on the season and will more than likely enter the Top 25 rankings next week. They'll take on the UCLA Bruins next week, who are currently ranked 23rd following their loss to Nevada last week.
