TITANS CASH IN WITH COOPER, ADD DEPTH AT RECEIVER

Riley Cooper has 5 Touchdowns and 679 yards in 3 years with the Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper found himself in the center of controversy after allegedly making racial slurs following a preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Cooper was previously involved in an offseason incident at a concert where he used racial slurs. The 25 year old had apologized and sought counselling prior to training camp for the team.

This latest incident has been a major setback for the team and has become a big distraction as the media circus continues. With Jeremy Maclin returning to form and Jason Avant playing well during preseason, Cooper had become expendable for the team and calls were made to see how much interest there was out there for him. The Titans are taking a gamble on the young receiver, as he is entering the last year of his rookie contract and may not resign with the team at the end of season.

Titans General Manager Rushton Webster was quick to get some dialogue going and the pair eventually settled on a deal to acquire Cooper. In the end the Titans traded their 2014 2nd and 5th Round Pick to the Eagles.

Cooper will join the team and should be made available for the upcoming game against New England. At this point, it is expected he will be 3rd in the depth chart behind Britt and Washington.

FYI - Actually, for some reason the Eagles cut Cooper and he was available as a Free Agent. I just thought this story was a bit more compelling then him just being cut; especially after his breakout season this year.

I will still compensate the Eagles with the picks.

FITZPATRICK GETS THE START VERSUS PATRIOTS

Fitzpatrick will make his 62nd career start on Sunday in his 9th NFL season.

After team practice today, Head Coach McFadden confirmed that Ryan Fitzpatrick will get the start on Sunday. The 8 year veteran signed a 2 year contract with the team on March 18th and was brought in to backup Jake Locker.

After outperforming Locker in preseason, McFadden has decided to go with who is playing better. Fitzpatrick has 80 career passing TD's and has thrown for 12,337 yards.

TITANS DEFENSE STIFLES PATRIOTS

Tom Brady was sacked 6 times and hurried 5 times by the Titans Pass Rush.

The Tennessee Titans defense came to play against the heavily favored Patriots, earning their Head Coach Jack McFadden his first NFL career victory. The game was a defensive struggle for both teams. The Titans pass rushing, was a problem for Brady all game sacking him 6 times during the game. Fitzpatrick had his own struggles, giving up two interceptions while in New England territory.

On the Patriot's first drive of the game, Running Back Shane Vereen fumbled the ball away on only his 2nd touch. This fumble was forced by LE Kamerion Wimbley and recovered by CB Jason McCourty. With the ball in New England territory on the 34 yard line, the offense went to work rushing with both Chris Johnson and Leon Washington. On the 4th play of the drive, Chris Johnson busts through an inside seam with a 28 yard TD run.

The defenses on both sides played well during the game, forcing Mesko and Kern to punt 9 times. The Patriot's allowed a huge play late in the 2nd Quarter, when with the Titans backed up on their own 10 yard line, Ryan Fitzpatrick dumped off a screen pass to Johnson. Johnson broke two poorly attempted tackles before sprinting into the end zone for an 88 yard touchdown. The first half ended with the Titans up 17-6.

The Titans offense began to sputter in the 3rd quarter, failing to score on 3 consecutive possessions. After stopping the Patriot's opening drive, the Titans tried to control the clock with their running game and on the back of Chris Johnson. On the Patriot's 25 yard line, Fitzpatrick gets picked off by Devin McCourty on the 3 yard line, as he attempted to hit Kenny Britt on a post route. The next possession Bironas missed a 39 yard Field Goal try. This allowed New England back in the game after Brady marched down the field and Vereen punched in a 6 yard touchdown.

With the score 17-16 the Titans start the 4th Quarter with the ball. After running for two first downs, Fitzpatrick hit Nate Washington with a play action pass on a deep post route. Washington hit in stride would have no trouble getting separation from the defender and raced 40 yards into the endzone.

With 3:20 left on the game clock, Brady again took control of the game and was able to march his team down the field scoring on a 14 yard pass to the FB Earnest Graham. The game came down to one huge play, as the Patriot's decided to go for the 2 point conversion to tie the game. Brady was looking for his Tight End Gronkowski the whole time, but LE Kamerion Wimbley was able to bat down the pass to break up the play, this on top of his 2 sacks and forced fumble already in the game.

With 55 minutes left in the game, Fitzpatrick connected with his new receiver Riley Cooper on a 3rd & 10 to extend the drive. The Patriot's would end up using their last time-out after Chris Johnson gained another first down on the ground setting up a Ryan Fitzpatrick kneel to end the game.
