Re: The Longest Yard, A Tennessee Titans Dynasty (Madden 13)
TITANS TAME LIONS AFTER STRONG 4th QUARTER
By Associated Press - 2013
Matthew Stafford was sacked 5 times in the Lions 32-17 Loss to the Titans.
The Tennessee Titans rallied in the 4th Quarter, scoring 17 unanswered points to pull ahead of the Detroit Lions and extend their winning streak to 3 games while the Lions suffer their first loss of the season.
The Titans were partially able to execute their game plan. They were able to get pressure on Matthew Stafford, sacking him 5 times in the game. One of the sacks resulting in a safety. It was the rookie out of Missouri, Zaviar Gooden who initially forced a fumble but Detroit was able to recover the ball on their own 5 yard line. On the next snap, Stafford dropped back and was immediately under pressure. He attempted to scramble out of the pocket, where he was met by Gooden and hauled down just inside the End Zone for a Safety.
The Titans defense was able to contain Calvin Johnson Jr by putting double coverage on him. Limiting him to just 5 catches and 80 yards, Johnson managed to make one big play, making a one handed catch in between 2 defenders and gaining 25 yards before being hauled down. Stafford had no shortage of other targets however and was able to find them once the run game stalled. Stafford earned 79 and 57 of his 331 yards hitting Braylon Edwards and Brandon Pettigrew on huge gains that resulted in touchdowns. The Lions quick strike ability was a constant threat that the defense had to be aware of.
Tennessee wasn't successful getting the passing game going, as Fitzpatrick was limited to 164 yards and mostly short passing plays. The Titans relied heavily on the running of Johnson and Washington to move them down the field. The pair combined for 164 yards in 38 carries.
With Detroit leading 17-15 and one Quarter to play, the Titans Defense started to settle in, stopping the Lions on a 3 and Out to start the quarter. After the punt return, the Titans start their possession with favorable field position. McFadden kept with the running game and moved the ball down the field. The drive is capped off with a 9 yard touchdown pass off play action to the TE Walker, once again giving Tennessee the lead.
With the ball back and 9:00 minutes left, Stafford drove the Lions into Tennessee territory before being stalled on the 42 yard line. David Akers Field Goal try is blocked and then recovered by the 3rd year player, LB Colin McCarthy. The huge defensive play once again gave Tennessee excellent field position.
Tennessee pushed down the field, running the ball for 3 first downs, all the way down to Detroit's 23 yard line. With 3 receivers bunched to his left, Fitzpatrick dropped back and aired out a pass and connected with Cooper in the End Zone on a deep post route, putting the Titans up 29-17 with 5:20 left.
On Detroit's next possession, Stafford is forced to try to convert a 4th and 5 with 3:20 left to get back into the game. Unfortunately, his offensive line was overwhelmed by a Titans blitz and LB Zach Brown got his 2nd sack of the night, forcing the Lions to turn it over on downs. Tennessee's next drive ends in a Bironas 39 yard Field Goal, his 3rd of the night that all but seals the game.
The Lion's fall to 2-1, while the Titan's remain undefeated at 3-0 under the watch of McFadden.
