Tennessee made two early strikes in the first quarter, vanderbilt was able to return the favor with a 62 yard strike to K. Kentera. Vanderbilt entered half time losing 21 to 10.In the second half Vanderbilt mounted a comeback but the defense just couldnt stop the volunteers offense in the end.
Butch Davis comments on the game:''This is Tennessee our rival and theres nothing I wanted to do more than win in front of our crowd like this. Its just unfortunate we werent able to come out with a win in this game. Tennessee scored the game winning touchdown with 37 seconds to go. This loss made us ineligible for a bowl game its a shame especially for our seniors. I guarantee we win our next game though. I refuse to lose like that again.''

Coach Butch Davis with his thoughts on todays game:'' Jerron Seymour was phenominal today he balanced our offense out and was a threat in the run game. This was the #4 ranked defense in the country and we scored 28 points on them thats not bad at all. There were some critical 3rd down drives where our defense made the stop where has that been all year?''
