Gould & Tui Land First Recruit In 2014
It was only a matter of time before Coach Gould and Coach Tui landed their first recruit of the year, and what better time than after a blowout win at home. The recruit they landed was 2* OG Joe George out of Roseville, CA. The American River CC player is a lot better than he may appear as he's been a fixture in the pass game all year long and currently graded out as a 78 OVR player. With 4 of the 5 starting linemen graduating this year, this was a key commit as he'll come in and be a starter next year.
Sacks
--------------------
Richard Burge (UTSA) - 1.5 Sacks
Mario Mann & Anthony Kaspar (UCD) - 3.0 Sacks
Interceptions
--------------------
Brian King (UTSA) - 1 interception
Desmond Lewis & Ade Jackson (UCD) - 1 interception
Game Notes
-------------------
Last week was a crazy offensive explosion for the UC Davis Aggies as Jimmy Laughrea guided his offense to a 37-17 win against UL Lafayette. Not only were they able to win, but in doing so they secured their first recruit of the year in a nice juco offensive lineman.
This week the Aggies will face the winless UTSA Roadrunners, who almost won their first game last week, but ultimately lost in overtime to New Mexico. They actually seem to have a decent running in David Glasco, but unfortunately for him, their team seems to get behind early and that forces them to rely a lot on the passing game. This could mean a great deal of hurt for UTSA as they face a UC Davis team that ranks 10th in rush defense.
For UC Davis, their offense will be going up against the 112th rushing defense and the 101st pass defense. If they use their last game as a blueprint, expect Manzanares to come out pounding the ball regardless of many few yards he may gain and then Jimmy Laughrea to knock them out with the quick passing game.
Recruiting Notes
-----------------
This is the biggest weekend of the year for UC Davis as Coach Gould is banking teh entirety of the recruiting class on this game as 23 recruits will be in house. This could be a make it or break it type of move, but go big or go home!

Wow 23 recruits. That's crazy. I am not a fan of having same positions visit the game week, so I think the most I have ever had visit in 1 week was 13..

Yeah I usually don't either, but it somehow worked out to where it was either the only week left except the bye week for the majority of the recruits or it came down to a home game against UTSA or UL Lafayette, which at the time I thought UTSA was an easier game for us....that and linking complimenting recruits together.
Anyways like I mentioned in Deuce's thread I have been gone the past few days out of town, but am back now ready to get back at it

UC Davis Uses Possession Control To Outlast Roadrunners
Davis, Calif. -- Coming into this game, the UC Davis Aggies have been red hot and headed into the right direction under Ron Gould and Marques Tuiasosopo. This week was particularly important for the Aggies as they were hosting 23 high school and junior college players.
UTSA would start the game with the ball and they wouldn't waste any time putting points up on the board as redshirt senior quarterback, Tucker Carter, got it into the endzone on only the 5th offensive play of the day. The Roadrunners would then do exactly the same thing on their second offensive possession of the game using only 6 plays to score putting them up 14-7.
Coach Gould had a much different approach to the game as they elected to use their power run game with Gabe Manzanares and their pass catching running back, Colton Silveria, to eat up as much of the clock, using an average of 12 plays per scoring drive, as they matched each of UTSA's quick scores.
This would put the game tied up with about 2 minutes left in the half. Texas-San Antonio would then go put up some good defense for a change and force two interceptions on Laughrea. They'd use both those turnovers to kick a 48 yard field goal and a 15 yard strike to go up 10 with a minute left. Not seeing much change for a scoring opportunity, TJ King would go in motion on the play and Laughrea would hit him over the middle, but as the ball approached the safety tried for the pick and missed and King rumbled for 57 yards before being caught. This would lead to a 25 yard field goal with 4 seconds left going into the end of the first half.
Coming out of the half UC Davis would have the ball to start and once again Coach Tui would lead with a lot of Manzanares as he would power the team down the field on 3 and 4 yard runs. With the run game working so well, Laughrea would then roll out on a play action pass and find a wide open Ryan O'Holleran in the back of the endzone for a score and tie the game up. The Aggies defense then would make its first defensive stand against UTSA and once again UC Davis would work the ball down the field and this time end it with a field goal.
Going into the 4th quarter it was still a tight game, but as the UC Davis defense has now managed to find itself things were seeming to tip the scale completely in their favor. With another stop and the ball going back to the Aggies, they looked to sink that final dagger in as Manzanares was not nearing 30 carries on the game. With just over 2 minutes left, Corey Galindo would make a nice catch on a bad pass for Jimmy Laughrea's 3rd TD of the game and put them up 10.
UTSA would go back to work and they needed to work fast. They would get the touchdown they needed, but on the onside kick attempt, the Aggies would recover and with 45 seconds left on the clock, the game would come to an end.
