Re: ASFL Roleplay thread

I'm adding a plot twist before the season starts....

TY SULLIVAN OUT FOR SEASON, THIAGO JAGGED BROUGHT IN
Ty Sullivan the fourteen year veteran and five time champion tore his ACL and MCL in practice for Sunday night's game. He will be out until the playoffs, but the Wolves have a secret weapon.

Former Calgary QB Thiago Jagged was signed to a five year, twenty million dollar contract. Thiago played two years at Florida but after riding pine behind Tim Tebow, he quit the team in a fit of rage in 2007. Joining Calgary, he took them to the 2012 Grey Cup before breaking his throwing arm on the opening play.

Jagged will start at Kansas for the Wolves and last season he played, he had thrown 43 touchdowns to only 10 picks and rushed for 15 touchdowns. Injury prone though, he has to stay healthy.

BOSTON GLOBE
THURSDAY MORNING
There has been a ton of speculation leading up to this opening game about what this Boston team will look like on the field. Rookie LB Trent Barnes, CB Olufunmilola "Cage" Pope, and DL Herbie Howland will all be getting their first ASFL action tonight, and fans are eager to see what they can do.

On offense, however, the team has struggled to find an identity. Coach French has tried to install in practice everything from the wildcat to a flexbone out of the pistol. Quarterback Neal Albertson has underachieved since being drafted number one by Seattle in 2003. The team's one bright spot on offense has been their offensive line, which is one of the best in the ASFL.

This team does have potential, but there are too many variables for them to succeed in their first season in Boston.

BOSTON GLOBE:Opening Day Action!
Icestorm offense struggles in opener, Racers win 17-13
WEDNESDAY MORNING
In the teams first game in a new city, the Boston Icestorm opened the 2014 ASFL season with a tough loss. Though the defense was stout, Boston's offense left much to be desired. Running a spread no-huddle system, the team self-destructed when they had the ball. Quarterback Neal Albertson seemed confused all game, and has all but proved incapable of managing a fast tempo. He was a horrible 10 for 29 on the day, with only 105 yards and 3 interceptions. The team's only touchdown came on a screen pass that speedy receiver Criss Cross took 42 yards for the score. Runningbacks Rickey Kidd and Jack Randall enjoyed great blocking from the offensive line, but Albetson wasn't aware enough to get them the ball on option plays. They combined for 84 yards.

The defense, however, allowed only 65 rushing yards, and sacked Indiana quarterback Desmond Fitzpatrick 7 times, 3 coming from rookie pass rusher Trent Barnes. Rookie corner Olufunmilola "Cage" Pope also contributed, getting an interception and taking it back to Indiana's 15-yard line (the offense settled for a field goal on the ensuing possession). Despite these great plays, the defense couldn't hold firm in the fourth quarter, allowing two scoring drives and blowing a 13-7 lead.

Coach Kyle French commented after the game: "We can't take this loss too hard. The players are learning a whole new offense, and we have a very young, inexperienced defense. Soon, everything will come together and we'll play like the playoff team we really are."

WOLVES ESCAPE KANSAS WITH A W

This Sunday, the Wolves faced the Blue in Kansas. They escaped 35-34, winning by a failed two point conversion.

The Wolves jumped out to a fourteen to nil lead with Thiago Jagged rushing for both TDs. The Blue and their thirteen year veteran QB, Haloki Durant, struck back with two passing TDs in quarter two.

NJ was not done. Darron Irvin pulled away with a sixty yard run and gave NJ the lead at halftime.

The Blue scored two unanswered passing touchdowns and Durant had over 300 yards already, to give them a 28-21 lead.

That is, until Thiago rushed for a thirty yard touchdown, breaking four tackles on the way to the end zone for the tie.

With a minute left, Durant threw a fifty yard bomb down the field which was caught by their rookie receiver. They went for a QB sneak for the win and Durant was sacked behind the line as time expired.

Media Reactions to Win

Jim Rome: It was a good win from the Wolves but let's face it: they won with Thiago Jagged and they won't go far. Last time we saw him he was spiking his helmet in Tim Tebow's face. Hey Thiago! Don't spike your helmet in Ty Sullivan's face when he returns.

Herm Edwards: The NJ defense needs to stop the bleeding. Get in position, make those tackles, get a stop. They can't stop a nosebleed.

PIONEERS OPEN SEASON WITH STRONG WIN

The Portland Pioneers come into 2014 season as one of the favorites to win the championship. Led by former Boise State and Colorado and Canadian Football League Head Coach Dan Hawkins, the Pioneers boast one of the most explosive and creative offenses in the league.

Led by former Boise State Jared Zabransky, a Oregon native at QB, the Pioneers have 20 players with ties to a what has become a very dominating program at Boise State. Joining "Big Z" in the starting lineup is RB Ian Johnson (the man who proposed after the Fiesta Bowl win) and former NFL WR Titus Young who hopes to put past troubles behind him as well at TE Derek Schouman who spent time in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.

Another player who is ex-NFL star has come out of retirement and will join Young in the WR core. Former Oregon State and NFL WR TJ Houshmandzadeh who is best known for his days as a Cincinnati Bengal and Seattle Seahawk. TJ retired from the NFL in 2011 after playing part of the year with the Oakland Raiders.

Game Recap

In the Friday Night Kickoff game, the Pioneers took on the Carson City. A team expected to try and work their way into the playoffs this season.

But the Pioneers offense was unstoppable as Portland puts up 35 in the first half led by 3 TD catches by TJ "Whose your Mama" and a nice 65 yd run by Ian Johnson.

Leading (35-14) at the half, Coach Hawkins never took his foot off the pedal as "Big Z" throws for 495 yds falling just 5 short of hitting 500. Titus Young comes up big with 2 TD bombs of (70 and 80 yds) well TJ adds to his Touchdown total with a circus catch in the endzone for the Pioneers final score. FINAL SCORE PORTLAND-56 CARSON CITY-28
