Preseason Roster Analysis
QUARTERBACKS
POS | ## | Name | HT | WT | AGE | College |
QB | 3 | Derek Anderson | 6-06 | 235 | 31 | Oregon State |
QB | 8 | David Carr | 6-03 | 212 | 35 | Fresno State |
QB | 11 | Blaine Gabbert | 6-05 | 233 | 24 | Missouri |
QB | 15 | Tim Tebow | 6-03 | 236 | 27 | Florida |
After allowing last year's starter Chad Henne walk in free agency the Oilers stocked up on has beens and never weres in the offseason.
Who's In: Tebow and Carr should be the frontrunners.
Who's Out: Depending on how many QBs the team decides to keep Gabbert or Anderson will likely be the first out.
Who's on the Bubble: Gabbert and Anderson are both on the bubble. One or both will likely not make the 53 man roster.
RUNNINGBACKS
POS | ## | Name | HT | WT | AGE | College |
HB | 21 | Justin Forsett | 5-08 | 198 | 28 | California |
HB | 16 | Denard Robinson | 5-10 | 199 | 23 | Michigan |
HB | 28 | Shaynon Simon | 6-00 | 204 | 20 | Georgetown |
HB | 44 | Ben Tate | 5-11 | 214 | 26 | Auburn |
FB | 45 | Marcel Reece | 6-03 | 240 | 29 | Washington |
Maurice Jones-Drew was traded to Oakland during the season last year in an effort to get something back before he walked in free agency. Houston was aggressive in the offseason, signing Ben Tate and drafting Shaynon Simon. They also signed Marcel Reece, arguably the best FB in the league.
Who's In: It would be a surprise if anyone is cut. Tate and Forsett should get most of the carries but Simon was just drafted in the second round and Robinson's "x factor" skill set should keep him around.
Who's Out: Probably nobody.
Who's on the Bubble: If anyone of them could be considered on the bubble it would be Robinson. Owner Mike Oxlong is quite fond of him and it would be a shock if they didn't keep all five.
WIDE RECEIVERS
POS | ## | Name | HT | WT | AGE | College |
WR | 14 | Justin Blackmon | 6-01 | 210 | 24 | Oklahoma State |
WR | 88 | Stephen Burton | 6-01 | 221 | 24 | West Texas A&M |
WR | 12 | Josh Cribbs | 6-01 | 215 | 31 | Kent State |
WR | 17 | Robert Meachem | 6-02 | 210 | 29 | Tennessee |
WR | 18 | Ace Sanders | 5-07 | 173 | 23 | South Carolina |
WR | 84 | Cecil Shorts III | 6-00 | 193 | 26 | Mount Union |
WR was one of the top priorities for the team this offseason, wanting to add depth behind Blackmon and Shorts. Cribbs and Meachem were both great signings.
Who's In: Blackmon and Shorts are a lock. Barring something unforseen Cribbs and Meachem should be too.
Who's Out: Gus Bradley has stated that the team will be very active roster wise during the preseason so if quality options become available Burton or Sanders could be replaced.
Who's on the Bubble: Ace Sanders. With Denard Robinson and Josh Cribbs likely to hande the return duties Sanders will have to prove his value as a slot receiver. If good receivers get cut during the preseason he could be the first casualty.
TIGHT ENDS
POS | ## | Name | HT | WT | AGE | College |
TE | 87 | Dallas Clark | 6-03 | 252 | 35 | Iowa |
TE | 85 | Anthony McCoy | 6-05 | 259 | 26 | USC |
TE | 89 | Matt Spaeth | 6-07 | 260 | 30 | Minnesota |
After allowing all of their tight ends to walk after the season Houston went after Anthony McCoy hard. McCoy will have to prove himself as the main option after primarily being a reserve in Seattle. Dallas Clark was brought in for depth and to mentor McCoy. Matt Spaeth will be used primarily as a blocker.
Who's In: This is another position where the team is likely to keep them all.
Who's Out: Probably nobody.
Who's on the Bubble: If anyone was to go it would probably be Dallas Clark, as McCoy is slated to be the #1 TE and Spaeth's blocking abilities are very valuable.

LT | 76 | Luke Joeckel | 6-06 | 306 | 22 | Texas A&M |

RG | 79 | Mike Johnson | 6-05 | 312 | 27 | Alabama |
RG | 77 | Uche Nwaneri | 6-03 | 318 | 30 | Purdue |
RT | 78 | Cameron Bradford | 6-04 | 302 | 26 | Grand Valley State |
RT | 67 | Austin Pasztor | 6-07 | 308 | 23 | Virginia |
One of Gus Bradley and Mike Oxlong's top priorities for their team was to build a young, strong offensive line. Resigning Bradford was a must, and they did. The trade for Costa helps solidify the middle. Ted Larsen will probably start at one of the guard positions. Rigsy likely won't be ready this season but should be a big piece in a year or two.
Who's In: Joeckel, Costa, Larsen, Bradford and Rigsy are absolute locks.
Who's Out: Austin Pasztor will likely be first to go.
Who's on the Bubble: Wil Rackley and Uche Nwaneri will likely be battling for the final spot.
DEFENSIVE LINE

LE | 99 | Everson Griffen | 6-03 | 273 | 26 | USC |
LE | 94 | Lawrence Jackson | 6-04 | 271 | 29 | USC |
LE | 98 | Gerald Rivers | 6-05 | 249 | 24 | Ole Miss |
RE | 96 | Robert Ayers | 6-03 | 274 | 28 | Tennessee |
RE | 58 | Jason Babin | 6-03 | 267 | 34 | Western Michigan |
RE | 90 | Andre Branch | 6-05 | 258 | 25 | Clemson |
RE | 71 | Ronnell Lewis | 6-02 | 244 | 23 | Oklahoma |
DT | 91 | Derek Berardi | 6-03 | 315 | 21 | East Carolina |
DT | 93 | Jamille Humphrey | 6-01 | 274 | 21 | West Georgia |
DT | 97 | Roy Miller | 6-02 | 310 | 27 | Texas |
DT | 92 | Earl Mitchell | 6-03 | 308 | 26 | Arizona |
DT | 75 | Drake Nevis | 6-01 | 310 | 25 | LSU |
The defensive line had few bright spots last season and as a result several players were added. The team went out of their way to retain DT Drake Nevis. They also signed DT Earl Mitchell early in free agency. Humphrey and Berardi were drafted in the 4th and 7th rounds respectively. Lawrence Jackson, Everson Griffen, Robert Ayers, and Ronnell Lewis were all brought in after the draft.
Who's In: Many would expect Babin and Branch to stay as well as Griffen and Jackson. Inside it should be Berardi, Humphrey, Mitchell and Nevis.
Who's Out: Roy Miller will have a hard time staying in the mix at DT. On the outside Rivers is probably the first out.
Who's on the Bubble: You wouldn't expect them to keep more than eight defensive linesman so that means three are out. Fringe players are probably Jackson, Ayers, and Lewis.

LB | 57 | Wesley Woodyard | 6-00 | 229 | 28 | Kentucky |
One of the Oilers strongest groups last season. Wesley Woodyard was a huge signing. Leland Tyrell was a fifth round steal but probably isn;t quite ready. Ernie Sims and Korey Toomer were added after the draft.
Who's In: Geno Hayes, Russell Allen, Paul Posluszny and Wesley Woodyard are absolute locks. Tyrell will stick around for sure.
Who's Out: Stupar, Thomas and Lotulelei would be the most expendable.
Who's on the Bubble: Reynolds, Sims, and Toomer will be battling for a couple of spots.
CORNERBACKS

CB | 23 | Alan Ball | 6-02 | 197 | 29 | Illinois |
CB | 25 | Tarell Brown | 5-10 | 193 | 29 | Texas |

CB | 34 | Sil Olugbode | 6-00 | 196 | 20 | Nevada |
CB | 20 | Kyle Wilson | 5-10 | 190 | 27 | Boise State |
With the league shifting to a pass first mentality the Oilers wanted to be prepared. Gratz and McCray were the top options coming into the offseason. Olugbode was the first overall pick and looks to be ready to start from day one. Kyle Wilson was brought in from the Jets in a draft day trade and Tarell Brown joined the fray late in free agency.
Who's In: Olugbode, Wilson, Brown, Gratz and McCray should be shoe ins.
Who's Out: Jeremy Harris is at the bottom of the list coming into camp.
Who's on the Bubble: Alan Ball and Jamell Fleming will fight for the sixth spot.
SAFETIES

SS | 22 | Winston Guy | 6-01 | 218 | 24 | Kentucky |
SS | 32 | Jordan Kovacs | 5-10 | 205 | 24 | Michigan |
After lacking depth in 2013 the Oilers brought in a number of players to allow them to have thier pick of the litter. Cyprien should have one of the spots locked up but it's open auditions for the other.
Who's In: Cyprien and Young may be the only ones safe here.
Who's Out: Yeremiah Bell has looked slow and out of shape thus far in camp. He could be out of the mix early.
Who's on the Bubble: Evans, Prosinski, Guy and Kovacs all have the ball in their court. They'll have to do something to impress the coaching staff. On the flipside, with such a close level of talent between them all one glaring mistake could have them looking for employment.
SPECIALISTS
POS | ## | Name | HT | WT | AGE | College |
K | 10 | Josh Scobee | 6-01 | 210 | 32 | Louisianna Tech |
P | 19 | Brian Anger | 6-04 | 208 | 25 | California |
With Scobee and Anger the Oilers have one of the top duos in the NFL. With no high level free agents at either position the team should stick with these two.
Who's In: Both.
Who's Out: Neither.
Who's on the Bubble: No bubbles here.
