Cougars Not Overlooking Golden Bears

Pullman, WA- Coming off a bye week that saw Head Coach Mike Leach guarantee a win against rival Washington and saw the Cougars rocket up to #9 in the polls, a fan might worry this team could overlook Cal.

"We know what to do now we just need to go out there and execute and we will get the win." said Head Coach Mike Leach, speaking to the press at length for the first time in a while. "I expect to see at least 28 points on the board."

28 points maybe possible as Cal comes in with one of the worst defenses in the nation while WSU comes in with the best offense in the country.

"They are a proud team so I expect they will fight and fight hard," said Senior QB Connor Halliday, "I am in no way expecting a easy time back there."

Although Halliday has put up monster numbers in most of the games this season, his young offensive line has allowed the opposing defense to sack him at least twice in a game.

On the defensive side of the ball, a proud WSU unit expects to dominate a struggling Cal offense. Cal has had trouble scoring averaging 15 points a game. Expect WSU to come out firing and cruise to a nice victory.

Kirk Herbstriet Prediction:
WSU over Cal 42-7

Cougars Run All Over Golden Bears En Route to a 49-7 Victory

Pullman, WA- The WSU Cougars proved today that when the passing game struggles, the running game and defense can step up and make big plays.

Three running backs scored a touchdown and senior QB Connor Halliday added 4 passing touchdowns and the WSU Cougars clobbered the California Golden Bears 49-7.

"It was a great great game!" said Halliday, "I struggled a little bit there in the beginning but the team responded and pulled out a great victory."

Halliday threw 3 interceptions in the first half. Two were really great plays by the Golden Bears corners and one was a miss read between wide receiver Gabe Marks and Halliday.

Despite the turnovers, the ground game really exploded as the Cougs rushed for 287 yards. Senior Marcus Mason rushed for 108 yards and a score, Junior Teondray Caldwell lead the team with 138 yards and a score, and even third string sophomore James Laufasa got in on the action with almost 50 yards rushing and a score.

"Me and Marcus man, we can be lethal if given a chance," Caldwell said after the game, "I think we need more opportunity to show what we can do and I hope we get it."

Some people might take that as a possible scandal brewing in Pullman. With so many mouths to feed, can offensive coordinator Graham Harrell find a happy balance between his stars?

One star in particular had another monster game. Senior wide receiver, Rickey Galvin caught 5 balls for 219 yards and 2 touchdowns. Galvin is very good at getting behind the defense and outracing them to the end zone. It is a big part of why he is one of the best wide receivers in the country.

Head Coach Mike Leach is back to his old form, speaking to the press after the game he said "This team is very capable of making a national championship run." The Cougars are currently ranked #9 but they still have dates with #1 Oregon and of course rival Washington.

The Cougars are clicking on all cylinders right now but do they have the passion and experience to make it through the end?

The Cougars welcome PAC 12 foe Arizona next week.
