Northern Athletic Association- CAPs Wanted
I've decided to try and put my very first dynasty on OS and figured, what better way to do so than a CAP dynasty? I will be using NCAA 14 and eight teambuilder teams which will make up the fictional Northern Athletic Association (which will replace the MAC.). So, I will first introduce the eight teams of the NAA and then give some info on how you can be involved!
Upper Peninsula Huskies
Location: Sault Ste. Marie, MI
Head Coach: Randy Jennings
Stadium: Jacques Marquette Stadium
O/D: Air Raid/4-3 Multiple
The Huskies are one of the top teams in the conference, led by their All-Conference (and potential All-American) WR, junior Derrick Gilbert.
West Dakota State Falcons
Location: Rapid City, SD
Head Coach: Dwight Hodges
Stadium: Memorial Stadium
O/D: Texas Tech/3-3-5
The Falcons are another NAA power, it will be difficult for them to win the league title as they have the past two seasons, as it's a bit of a down year for the Falcons, but they're hoping that junior QB Isaac Roberts can lead the team. That task should be made easier by veteran wideouts Clarence Cody (Sr.) and Ron Newberry (Jr.).
Nebraska State Titans
Location: North Platte, NE
Head Coach: Isaac House
Stadium: Titan Stadium
O/D: Pistol/4-3
The Titans are a middle of the road NAA team. Not that bad, not that good. They'll look to their seniors, namely QB Cory Fritz and RB Jorge Ferwerda to carry them past mediocrity.
Omaha State Cowboys
Location: Omaha, NE
Head Coach: Wesley Taylor
Stadium: Rosenblatt Field
O/D: Spread/4-3
In the NAA, there are haves and there are have-nots. The gulf between the middle of the road and the back of the pack is about the size of the Grand Canyon. The Cowboys sit on the wrong side of that gap. Coach Taylor will have a ton of work to do in order to get this bunch back on the other side. Freshman QB Rod Cowan looks like he may be the man to lead that charge... unless someone else were to shove him aside. Until then, however, the Cowboys are led by a nice junior RB in the form of Karl Lane.
Western Iowa Riverhawks
Location: Council Bluffs, IA
Head Coach: Jericho Howard
Stadium: Kanesville Field
O/D: Multiple/4-3
The Riverhawks are another of the teams who are sitting at the front of the pack, ready to duke it out with the rest of the top teams in the conference. They have a solid crew of quarterbacks, led by Senior Tyus Wheaton, who should bring them success this season, as well as in the future. Throw in senior RB Donnell Lawrence as well as sophomore RB Dominic Dingle (the name generator came up with that gem... I have to leave it!) on offense and senior MLB Ross Gunn on the defensive side and you have one of the better all-around teams in the conference.
Minnesota Tech Trojans
Location: Duluth, MN
Head Coach: Hayden Fox (you're darn right I did.)
Stadium: Johnson Stadium
O/D: Spread Option/Multiple D
When Minnesota State disbanded their football program in 1997, fans were deservedly upset. When long-time rival Minnesota Tech scooped up the contract of legendary head coach Hayden Fox, that only added insult to injury. Now the Trojans stand as one of the better teams in the NAA. This year, however, Coach Fox will trot out a very young team that could struggle to win many games. Led by senior CB Davon Brock, the defense will be very good... it's the offense that is the big question mark.
Wisconsin State Warriors
Location: Green Bay, WI
Head Coach: Wallace Williams
Stadium: Holmgren Field
O/D: Pro/4-3 Multiple
Though they play in the football mecca that is Green Bay, the Warriors don't exactly carry the football clout that the city does. The Warriors are another of those teams on the wrong side of the fence, and this season should be no different. Junior Edward Redd will be about their most consistent performer. Unless things change on the late recruiting trail, expect the Warriors to fight to avoid the cellar.
Northeast Illinois Cougars
Location: Chicago, IL
Head Coach: David Ingram
Stadium: Soldier Field
O/D: Option/3-4
The third have-not in the league ironically plays their games in the league's largest stadium, sharing with the NFL's Chicago Bears. As you can imagine, the Cougars don't quite fill Soldier Field. Not even close. Junior HB Dominique Howe will try to keep the Cougars out of the 8-spot in the conference.
There you have the teams. Now, for CAP sign-up info, what you've really been waiting for. My plan is to have all caps be Freshmen, from approximately 75 to 80 overall. The worse the team, the more likely it is that your CAP will see the field as a freshman. I will not get a chance to start in on the actual dynasty for a couple of weeks (as I'm taking a summer course), so feel free to get CAPs in until then. You can start with two each, and I'd like the teams to get filled up somewhat equally, but we'll see what happens. Also, I still haven't decided which of these teams to roll with just yet. Leaning toward Omaha State or just sticking with Western Iowa or Minnesota Tech, so if you have any input there, I'd love to hear it. Here is the sign-up form:
