Draft Stories:
  • The Cannon Kid: Kalen Bates is putting NFL teams on notice that his big arm is ready.
    • "Bates has the type of power arm that NFL teams covet. Thought those throws were only possible in commercials for small foam footballs." - Ross Tucker
Owners Corner:

Injuries

  • Carlos Rogers (CB - 82 OVR) - Broken Collarbone - Out 7 Weeks
  • Maurice Jones-Drew (RB - 85 OVR) - Upper Arm Fracture - Out 1 Week
Losing Carlos Rogers for 7 weeks this late in the season is essentially losing him for the season. He was a solid corner and while he only had 1 INT on the season he had quite a few deflections. I need to go to the Free Agency pool and pick someone up to replace him.

Free Agency
  • Players Dropped: Trent Edwards (QB - 67 OVR)
    • Seems very sensible to drop him as he was 4th on the QB Depth Chart and unless every single QB gets hurt (*knocks on wood*) there was no way he was going to get into the game.
  • Players Added: Asante Samuel (CB - 82 OVR)
    • He was the best CB available and he is a zone coverage specialist; it was imperative to pick up a zone specialist because that is the type of coverage I run most of the time.

This was a complete shocker in the NFL world and I am so excited to say our defense absolutely shined today against the best passing attack the NFL has ever seen. My signing of Asante Samuel payed in full and he was definitely the reason for our success.

The Offense today wasn't spectacular but when we did well it mattered most. Matt McGloin (19/27 191 yards, 2 TDs 2 INTs) did very well today hitting targets in close coverage, but did end up with 2 INTs on the day. James Jones (5/61/1) did incredible making the most out of his receptions; every one of his receptions was caught less than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage but he ended up with a 12+ yard average. Darren McFadden ended up getting hurt midway through the 2nd Quarter and was off to an above average day, but after he got hurt Jeremy Stewart ended up having an average day (21/66/0).

The Defense was absolutely incredible today. Stopping Peyton Manning (22/33 for 188, 0 TDs and 2 INTs) and making him have one of the worst days of his career is no easy feat. Peyton ended up breaking out of the pocket on one play early in the 3rd Quarter and hurt his abdomen and was out for the rest of the gamewhich definitely helped our cause. Monte Ball (11/123/2) was absolutely amazing today, and we can't seem to stop the rush whatsoever; and he busted off an amazing run for a TD today that was for 65 yards.

Damn, a week after beating the best offensive team in the NFL it seems I cannot beat the Phillip Rivers-led offense in San Diego.

The Offense today was absolutely horrible today, and once again the running game could not get anything going. Maurice Jones-Drew rushed 16 times for only 29 yards and the day was highlighted by the inconsistency of Marcel Reece who rushed 8 times for an astounding 5 yards... Excuse me, -5 yards. Matt McGloin was not great today but did manage to not turn the ball over. Thanks to consistent 3-and-outs and long, time-draining drives by the Chargers we barely were on the field and couldn't get anything going while on the field so it was just a wash.

The Defense was bad today, but did manage to keep the Chargers running game from taking off, Danny Woodhead managed to get 82 yards on 18 carries but that is honestly one of the best games we've had this season and especially in the last few weeks. Phillip Rivers began the game with low yardage in the first half (120 yards) but ended up with 242 after hitting a few targets for 15+ yards in the second half.

Not many aside from not throwing Interception after Interception like I was in last years Madden.. Right now I am sitting at 4-6 and pretty happy with how the sliders are playing. Hopefully the people who actually read this thread and try out my sliders are having the same fun!

Draft Stories
  • Crossing the Line: Kansas RE Matt Bennett is switching from protecting a quarterback to attempting to sack one.
    • "Smart move by Bennett switching to DL. He wasn't going to be drafted on the OL, move gives him opportunity to impress scouts." - Todd McShay
Madden 15 is not as good as Madden 25 in presenting Draft Stories. It could just be this draft class that is messed up but I really despise that there is random stories of random players, that do not have an arching story throughout the season.

The first draft story didn't come out until week 4 and the first story was talking about a player as if I knew him already and was introduced to him already, but he was not.
I feel very "on my own" for scouting, but I do get little hints throughout the season about some players, but it's not very good information - so essentially I am on my own for scouting.

Scouting

I am looking at quite a few players, mainly looking at Defensive Ends, Corners, Halfbacks, and Kickers. Haven't found anyone special yet, but I should be finishing the year in the early-to-middle of the pack so I am thinking I will be drafting anywhere from 10 - 15.

If I scout a player beyond 4 categories, that means I am really looking at him and he is a good player. I will post those players from now on, here in the Scouting category.

This was an awful game tonight in front of the Thursday Night Football audience. It was the first game Matt McGloin absolutely failed as a quarterback.

The Offense today had its good and bad moments, but overall was pretty lackluster. The Rushing attack seemed to look a little better to start off the day, with Maurice Jones-Drew netting 48 yards on 10 carries; but the Chiefs defense stepped up in a huge way and stuffed MJD for only 13 yards on 9 carries in the 2nd half. The Passing Attack was atrocious today. Matt McGloin (14/28 for 200 yards, 2 TDs and 5 INTs) was a turnover machine. I will admit, the Derrick Johnson interception return was pure dumb luck, but the others were me just either not reading the coverage correctly or me just being dumb and throwing the ball straight into coverage. James Jones had the play of the day for the Raiders when he turned a quick 4-yard curl route and ran around the coverage up the sideline, outrunning 2 defenders' tackles for a 65-yard score.

The Defense today was actually pretty decent today. The tiny bump in the CPU Pass Block was definitely noticed as I only got 4 sacks today, but that is a very lifelike number. The Pass Defense looked absolutely lost at times, but managed to do a fairly good job at keeping passes to a minimum; only allowing a couple passes go for longer than 15 yards. The Mark Harrison touchdown was all thanks to a blown coverage, and there was one other reception for 20+ yards which was a sideline catch that was run right in between our zones. The Rush Defense was incredible, however, holding one of the best running backs in Jamaal Charles to only 59 yards on 19 carries; and to start the game he only could manage 10 yards on 9 carries, so the defense definitely was letting up in the 2nd half. And just as the Chiefs Offense began to step up in the 2nd half, the Chiefs Defense stepped up as well.

It was a terrible loss today, and our 3rd in a row, We are on a big slide right now and I really don't see any stop in sight. We are getting beat in so many ways and it's hard to plug the holes in this busting dam. We need to do some reconstructing in the off-season; mainly in Free Agency, but I need to find my gems in the draft and begin really training Derek Carr to take over possibly beginning of 2015; and if things get bad enough, maybe even the end of this year.

Draft Stories
  • Favorite Target: TE Segwick Hood just broke Ohio State's record for most touchdown receptions in a season with 21 TDs this season.
    • "Hey may not be a fantastic blocker, but what get in Hood is a giant target with solid hands." - Todd McShay
Scouting
  • Looking at a WRfor my first round selection. I like my group of Wideouts but I need that stud receiver. I am looking at a couple of high-ranked WRs Maxey Lynch (10th Overall) and Delonte Rucker (17th Overall) and Rucker seems to be the faster of the receivers but Lynch is the possession receiver of the duo.

This was the turnaround we needed, even though we almost lost it at the end, we finally started to click again as a team.

The Offense today finally looked back to normal, Maurice Jones-Drew finally got a decent game racking up 61 yards on 19 carries with 28 yards receiving and a nice touchdown.Mychal Rivera (4/63/1) looked great today going over the top of a very low-confidence set of linebackers.

The Defense was actually good in the clutch, but overall gave up entirely too much yardage against the Rams 3rd String QB, Austin Davis (30/36, 314 Yards 1 TD, 1 INT) and shredded our corners by throwing it to Jared Cook (8/64/0) and Brian Quick (8/89/0). We also could only muster up 2 sacks on the day. However, while our Pass Defense had a bad day, our Rush D did an outstanding job at holding back Zac Stacy (13/17/0).

I accidentally closed the tab that had my post all written up, just needed to add the box score and the blurb at the end.. So the stats and things I did before the game I cannot remember the exact numbers, or players that I scouted or whatever, so those sections will be blank.

This was an embarrassment.. What a god-awful game all around.. This was not the best way for Derek Carr to begin his career; but even against the mighty 49'ers, we shouldn't have been this desecrated on defense.

The Offensive attack was stagnant today. I thought the addition of the shifty Derek Carr would be a benefit, but the 49ers front seven is too good to be fooled by Read Options, and Maurice Jones-Drew was the typical no-show he has been the entire season. Carr was a bit successful in the passing game, however, posting a respectable 175 yards with only 1 pick in the game against one of the leagues premier defenses. His main beneficiaries were Mychal Rivera (4/60/0) and Greg Little (5/60/0).

The Defense today was atrocious. Aside from the fact that we obtained 6 sacks in the first half, we could not stop Colin Kaepernick for anything today (16/17, 182 yards, 3 TDs). It was insane the throws he was making, but I have played against the 49ers about 8 times (tinkering with the sliders a LOT lately) and this was the only game he had where he completed more than 85% of his passes; so this was just a fluke game but it was a really good game for him. The Rush D was astounding today, until the 2nd half began when Frank Gore busted off a HUGE 80 yard run and broke the game wide open. Before that run Gore was having a regular day (11/53 - a 4.8 YPC) but after that run he blew his average up to 11.1 (12/133/1) and totally altered the stat line. Take away that run, and the Raiders had a respectable day defending the run, but we can't do that so the Raiders once again looked like swiss cheese on defense.
